I love Little Free Libraries…read more They're a way for the owners to be kind and to contribute to their neighborhoods. But I have a special place in my heart for those independent spirited mavericks who don't need someone else's program or website or authorization. They build a box themselves and pack it full of books and call it good. It seems like those folks aren't especially concerned about promotion or getting the word out. They understand that the people near them that love books will find them and hope that those not near them will build their own free library. I hope the owners of this delightful Little Library will allow me to do a bit of promotion on their behalf. It's awesome. Well constructed and beautifully similar to the full sized home, this library was packed to the ceiling with reading material for kids and adults. It's located on a charming, very quiet cul-de-sac and is just a quick walk from the nearest park. And it's just blocks from my home. Which means it will be a regular stop when I've got books to donate or I'm looking for the next interesting book to read.

She explained that her son had made the library and it was he who had come up with the unusual roofline planter. She then offered me some of her homegrown grapefruit. Considering all the fear and anxiety that so many people are going through with the Corona virus it was sweet to enjoy a little person to person interaction and a little human kindness. It's nearly as vital as the air we breathe.

Last time I was here there were friendly professional employees. Limited books and magazines. Which is understandable. No where to park as well. Its kind of in a high gang area. But I had no problems driving through here. I give 3 stars because of the attitudes and service. The library itself is wonderful.

It belittled me and the entire vibe from that library changed after that day. Susie's a rebel…read more The Little Free Libraries may have their program but it looks like Susie's decided to go her own way. She loves the "free" part of things but doesn't have any of that official registration stuff and she's definitely tossed that "little" idea. Susie's thinking big, she's goin' large,....no extra large. She's stacking books two deep and three shelves tall and gettin' it done. My girls have friend that could climb inside this library, that's how big it is. There were Barney videos and big books and little books and goofy books and serious books. There were books in three different languages! One was a French Medieval cookbook. I stood there half stunned and thought "I... have a wife.... that loves to cook and ...can read every word! This baby's mine!! Thank you Susie for that generous rebel's heart. We love what you're doin' and we love that you're doin' it large.

I discovered this LIttle Free Library at night so, unfortunately, the photos are not that great…read more But it's absolutely beautiful and it's got some features that really make it unique. It's clearly made by an owner with some woodworking skill. It's robust and visually appealing and well put together. Oddly though, its door is noticeably smaller than its body. So you can reach in and then off to one side to books you can't see through the opening. The latch though. The latch is genius. I've seen tons of LFL's with janky spring latches or hooks that help to keep the sagging door on its hinges. Not this baby. The owner of this LFL cut the door and its jamb so they had a fairly tight fit. Then he wrapped the jamb with copper, a metal malleable enough that it would wrap around the jamb but tough enough that it would keep the door snugly closed. It's just awesome. It's elegant and simple and the copper adds a terrific stylish flair to the whole project. Well done!
