When I was making my way east along I-40, I passed the cattle feed lot west of Amarillo TX. After…read moreseeing the high density cramped quarters and smelling the awful stench, let me tell you, I swore off beef then and there! Well, that was four hours back and 300 miles under my tires. That, along with my short memory, is when I saw the sign for Robertsons. Time for a bite to eat. I pulled off the highway and into a gravel parking lot. There before me was a rustic looking building that looked like it was in serious need of some paint. But, as they say, dont judge a book by its cover. It's what's on the inside that counts. Besides, a little weathered wood just adds to the ambiance. Don't get fooled by the face of Robertsons. The heart beats soundly. When I went inside, I noticed that the chalkboard menu had a number of different offerings. It was when I saw BBQ beef that I knew that I had to give it a shot. The memory of the feedlot had long since faded. As did the stench of the cattle wallowing in their own filth. But hey, didn't I mention that it's what's on the inside that counts? Well, I found that the inside of a bovine can barbecue up quite nicely. I got the bbq sandwich, and it was superb. You should get one, or maybe even two! Quick Tip: If you're tempted to get gas at the Loves next door, don't. Go to the next exit and buy your gas at Stuckeys. It's like 20 cents a gallon cheaper. The money you save will help pay for your sandwiches. Or that Pecan Log Roll if Stuckeys draws you inside.

Cute place but people who are not locals get treated differently…read more I wanted a large size sandwich to share with my daughter. They had sandwiches priced by how much meat there was in it. But I asked to see the bread cuz I wanted to know if they had a larger size bread. He said they didn't and they showed me the tiniest little loaf of bread like in a cheap store. And I said is there anything bigger than that and they said no so I ordered the sandwich it was very tiny because we have. You have to put your own condiments on like mustard and mayo and all of that. As I'm doing that I'm looking at sandwiches going out the door there's a big hoagie bun and there's another one that has at least double size white bread so obviously for the locals they will do that but not for people who are travelers. They're advertisement absolutely is not what is real when you get there it fails to impress. Turkey tasted okay but it was nothing special so I wouldn't recommend this place.

This is very good beef jerky. What I thought was cool, is they sell you the beef jerky and then…read morelet you select seasoning you want to add to it. You pour the seasoning in the bag the jerky comes in and shake, not you have flavored jerky. To be clear, the jerky is good as is, but nice that you can modify it and season to taste. The jerky isn't cheap, but I was happy to support a local business. There are a couple beef jerky places in the area, so I did a mini beef jerky tasting tour, like wine tasting, but in OK it was jerky. This was my favorite jerky of the ones I had that day.

I tripped upon this place as a Jerseyan far, far from home....and I'm glad I did. Partially…read morebecause it was raining when I did, so you know, tornadoes and such, and here was a structure that offered shelter. Somewhat bare bones inside, but I'm not complaining. You came for the beef jerky anyway, right? Well, that's what they have! Beefy tasting beef jerky, not that overly smoked tasting crap. I'm not much of a jerky person, or rather, wasn't. I thought beef jerky was supposed to taste like the Jack's stuff, which is meh...and too smokey for my taste. Hal's also offers a bunch of spices on the side to add. Some better than others, but hey, each to their own. Also, I'm guessing I met Hal when I walked in. Super nice guy! He said I looked like a movie star, which I guess isn't something to complain about.
