But I think that might have been different if I'd gone to Grandview Elementary. It's a small urban school. It sits on a bluff in Bellevue overlooking the city and the Cincinnati skyline. Wonderful. But even with the blinds drawn and the view obscured, it'd be a great school. The teachers seem to care. No one gives me the impression of clocking time; of winding down until summer vacation hits or a juicy public employees pension can be tapped. Here's what sold me on the school: My oldest went to kindergarten there. We were unhappy with it. From first grade through fourth, my daughter went to Catholic schools. Because of several problems there, we decided it was time to move on. I called several schools and on a lark called Grandview. The principal that was just starting her first year when my daughter was in kindergarten now had several years to reshape the school. What caught my attention though was she still remember my daughter, her interests, and her hobbies...and my too-young-for-school daughter's name. And me and my wife. That's a level of attention paid that we still find permeating the school. This is an urban school with too much poverty and young, broken families, but the school offers those kids and all kids a chance. It's one I wish I had had a chance to go to.

The thing to keep in mind with Grandview is that you aren't just getting a great school--you are getting a great community and a true neighborhood school. We are able to walk to any number of our friends and neighbors homes for gatherings, and it's a regular occurrence for us to be walking down the street and my son to see his classmates (and even teachers and staff). Bellevue's walkability, community garden, community potlucks, and a closeness we had formed with some residents and young families here, are literally the reasons why we were strongly considering moving from Fort Thomas to Bellevue. Then, when we met members of the Board of Education and Robb Smith, the superintendent, we were sold. Grandview's staff has been nothing but supportive of the kids I've seen coming and going, from Daphne (the crossing guard) knowing each kid by name, to Mrs. Young and Mr. Fuller high fiving and greeting each kid coming in with a smile and/or high five. We're glad we made the jump, and look forward to many more years of our family being Tigers. #ChooseBellevue

Bullying is a major problem and is often ignored by staff. My loved one has been called names, including comments about being Black and "messing up their white friend's shine." Watching them struggle with this kind of racial name-calling while nothing changes is heartbreaking and unacceptable. Instead of protecting the students being bullied, the school often punishes the ones who become frustrated after being pushed too far, while the bullies face little to no consequences. There also appears to be favoritism, especially in sports. Coaches allow only their favorite players to participate instead of giving fair playing time. Mental health support is lacking, and students who are bullied are often the ones blamed. This is not a safe environment. Bullying should be taken more seriously than fighting, as bullying can lead to long-term trauma and even suicide. The school needs to investigate these issues and make real changes.

My son was born a few months before Covid hit and so I was very nervous about his first preschool experience. The Gardner school made it so easy and enjoyable for him! I especially loved that all meals are included in tuition, and the teachers were helpful with potty training. This school is very clean and tidy, and I was very satisfied with the safety precautions they have in place (locked front doors, code required for check-in/out). My son loved the themed classrooms/hallways and the staff were so friendly and kind. My job situation changed soon after my son started at the school but the staff were very understanding and we were so sad to go.

Along with underpaying the subs they hire teachers who bully the students such as Vicky criswell who repeatedly mocks students in class reveals their grades and daily degrades any who cross her in front of their peers. The district also has no regard for their safety which shows quite evident when it takes -4 degree weather and -20 degree wind chill to call it when weeks before the weather was quite similar and the student parking lot laid covered in ice while the staff lot was dry. Lakota schools drop the ball in many areas especially when it comes the the most important part... the children.

The Directors are organized and very involved with the care of the children. Their new facility is absolutely beautiful. It's so bright and such an engaging place to learn and play. I don't know of any other place that offers tumblebees, basketball, soccer, dance and music each week as part of their tuition. My girls are thriving because of their experiences at The Campus.

I've spent a few months here under the Classroom Buddy program. Essentially, you carve some time…read moreout of your day to spend it with a kiddo that needs a little extra educational help or encouragement. You become their "buddy." You're decently vetted before you can step foot into a classroom. There's a short application process and you must be legally background checked (with the fancy blue paper background check, not just an online one). Once approved, you get a 5 year badge and you're able to check in to the school. I'm impressed with the organization of this school. I'm in two separate classrooms and both teachers are great. The kiddos are all respectful and care to be in school. The office staff, cafeteria staff and paraprofessionals are very personable with each kiddo. It's a lovely sight to see! As for the Classroom Buddy program, it's easy to get set up if you email the school for details. Even a small amount of time with a kiddo each week could change their perspective on many things, both short and long term. You can change a child's life. Yes, YOU.

I really enjoyed and looked up to all of my teachers. They were all amazing and wonderful people who taught me a lot. Some of them are still there! They have an accelerated program and a magnet program that brings in students from all over outside the Mt. Washington area. We were taught Latin in preparation for the curriculum at Walnut Hills High School even though not everyone went there. I also learned how to type about 60 words a minute when I was in the 5th grade, which is something most people can't say! This is a great school for your young ones to attend. There is even a huge playground in back for recess!
