Where do I even start?! Onmy last day in Manchester, my aunt sporadically took us to The Alchemist…read morein Salford. We decided to get some cocktails and nibbles. Where was this place all along my whole trip? I wish we would have found them sooner because I would have gone ham on the menu and drinks lol. First and foremost the ambience is amazing here and the decor is absolutely beautiful. This place would be great for cocktails with the girls or a date night. The restaurant is the Media City location and located off the water in Salford so that already creates a whole ambience and vibe. The staff was super friendly, and we decided to sit at the bar. The bartender was also very helpful and patient with us. Along with that, she was knowledgeable about the drinks and definitely put on a show when making them. This made for an overall great experience! There's such a wide variety of cocktails to choose from, as I literally wanted everything on the menu lol. I decided to go for the hipflask margarita as I love me some tequila and margaritas, and this drink did not disappoint! It wasn't what I was expecting as a margarita, like I'd get in the states, but it was delicious. On top of that it comes in a super cool hipflask that you get to take home with you, and if you come back I believe the bartender said you could get £5.50 off of it each time you bring it back. I'm not quite sure what my aunt got as she told the bartender to just make her a strong drink but it was super cool and came with a cool bubbly effect. There was also a syringe shooter that came with this drink. I tried that one as well and it was another great cocktail. The other cocktail we ordered was the raspberry ripple and again that was great. And I'll be honest I was hesitant about the buttermilk chicken, but I was pleasantly surprised, and that chicken was so good along with the salt and pepper fries. I needed another order that for myself lol. If you're ever in Salford, you should check them out! I love their whole concept behind their drinks, and it's a whole vibe. I know they will definitely be first on my list to hit up when I go back as I'd love to try some more of their drinks.

The fiver includes porridge, fresh fruits, pancakes, yoghurts, lots of cereals and most cooked items you can think of. I chose the porridge, which was tasty and a first here; it was served up in an ice cream sundae glass. Then I had three rashers of bacon, two sausage, black pudding, two fried eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, fried potatoes, I could have added beans, other types of fried potatoes and the eggs could have been poached or scrambled so you can see that the menu was really extensive. Also included in this price were different types of muffins, and unlimited toast. Another £2.25 buys unlimited filter coffee, tea and orange, grapefruit and cranberry juices. The coffee was quite alright and the juices really tasty. I paid £4:50 yesterday for a two item small portioned breakfast at Coasters in Sale. As I ordered I heard someone order their breakfast and his order included 4 sausages, 4 rashers of bacon, three fried eggs and it sounded that he was just calling out the entire menu list. The waitresses were very friendly. The guys cooking the food were efficient producing hot food quickly. If you don't want a cooked breakfast then a fiver will get you unlimited cereals, pancakes, fresh fruit, toast, yoghurts, muffins and all the hot drinks and fruit juices. Downsides were very few: the place was cold, I disliked the taste of the black pudding and the coffee cups and juice glasses are quite small. It's a five star rating anyhow as the value is fantastic.

Aadams have taken a prime location and I have to say it looks fantastic both inside and out, they've obviously spent quite a lot of money on the decor. I had been trying to avoid going as I'm being healthy but the smell when I walked past enticed me straight in before I even had a chance to think about what I was doing. The grill is only just getting going so they advised that we should phone through our order early to ensure we got it on time as there was a large queue at lunchtime (there are offices all around here.) Luckily there's a 10% discount if you order over the phone and collect it so there's definitely an incentive to give them some notice that you're coming! They do a whole range of foods, they do curries, kebabs, burgers and pizza's so there's something for everyone here. As I wanted to try and at least be a little healthier than I could have been I decided to have a mix grill kebab without the naan with some salad, I have to say the meat was delicious it was cooked properly on skewers rather than them shaving processed meat like other takeaways do. There was a good selection of sauces and the staff were friendly and polite. This will definitley become my fat friday treat in the future and possibly even more often if I decide to be naughty!

My server, Aaron (who shared the same name as me) provided great service and we even shared a joke about having the same first name. The ambience and vibes of this place are pretty cool, the typical benches are surrounded by a couple of booths for a more intimate feel, the booths also have plug sockets which can be pretty handy. I decided to try the Chicken Raisukaree from the non-gluten menu, the staff seemed clued up regarding allergies and quickly went over the process, confirming it was an allergy. Chicken Raisukaree - a mild, coconut and citrus curry, with chicken, mangetout, peppers, red and spring onions. served with white rice, a sprinkle of mixed sesame seeds, red chillies, coriander and fresh lime (description from Wagamama's website) The chicken was cooked well and tasted good, although I wish there was more of it, the sauce was also fairly nice and considering it is a mild curry, it had a lot of flavours, which I loved. I do think the vegetables would have been better in smaller chunks, having to break away huge chunks of vegetables with no knifes available could have been made easier. (Strangely, they only had forks, spoons and chopsticks). I was disappointed with the rice, it just seemed heavy and a little gritty, it wasn't light and fluffy as I'd have hoped. While I liked the concept of being able to use a QR code to pay for the bill using my iPhone, I did have to give my details to pay - I don't know why they need my email address and phone number just to pay my bill, it felt like they were trying to get unnecessary personal information from me, while also making it take a little longer to pay my bill. It wouldn't be my first choice to dine in the area, mainly down to the number of better alternatives nearby, but I can understand why it seems popular. 3*

We were greeted upon arrival and seated very quickly, and the member of staff was very friendly and amenable. He told us who would be serving us and then... ...we waited. It took 20 minutes before we could get somebody's attention. I wouldn't have minded too much, but they weren't even busy. It was as if staff were avoiding eye contact on purpose. We finally managed to flag someone down who took our order, but in a very brusque and matter of fact way. Food came quickly, but our table was dirty and they made no attempt to clean it, and because we were seated outside the wind blew away our napkins - staff picked them up but never came back and gave us replacements. The food was decent as expected, and it was very convenient being able to pay using our phones because if we'd had to get someone's attention again I suspect we would have missed our show.

Of all the big high street names though, Nando's has to be my 'most-liked' as the food just tastes that bit more wholesome than the burgers and fried chicken you can get elsewhere. So I shared my workmates' pleasant surprise when we heard that they were opening a new restaurant near the Lowry Outlet, and waited for its opening. A birthday lunch of a colleague brought a group of us in here and we were glad we booked in advance as the place was really packed. Had we known we could have pre-ordered our meals before arrival we would have done, as we were told there would be a 25 minute wait for food and they weren't wrong. A couple of trips to the soft drink vending machine later and the food started arriving, along with a sincere apology from the manager. They were newly opened, very busy and had two large groups who arrived very late, so we totally sympathised. The food we ordered was all very good, everyone had empty plates. The interior is full of reclaimed wood, from the walls to the massive lamp shades. There seems to be a trend to use this in places these days which is great. Being brand new, the whole place was obviously shiny and clean. Welcome to the neighbourhood, we've been chicken-deprived for too long.

That's worth a look in itself, believe me. Its unfathomably high ceilings with their ornate decorations make for an interesting experience. A word of warning, however... office lunchtimes, yes, those dreaded things, can get a little crazy here. While working at Salford Quays I joined some colleagues on a little trip out there, and we were informed by our waiter that there was a twenty minute wait once the food had been ordered. This is something that is difficult to understand when the restaurant doesn't seem to be particularly packed, but we trusted him. We did get our food when we were told, although some seemed to think it was a bit later... I didn't feel like I was waiting too long. In fact I thought twenty minutes was normal in a restaurant. Oh well, shows what I know. This doesn't bother me in the slightest, but I do understand the impatience of others, so use with caution, just like Diesel's Fuel for Life fragrances. I'm not exactly sure why that is. Other unique selling points include the nearby Lowry Outlet car park, the mall, if that's what you're into, the river views and of course attractions like the museum and theatre. Definitely a good option for lunch or dinner if you happen to find yourself Quayside.
