We had a mixed experience with Kinderhut. I think their ski school is quite good, and our…read more3-year-old daughter enjoyed herself. But we found their nursery/day-care facilities to be sub-par. On balance, we were a bit more negative than positive on the experience, thus the two-star rating. We enrolled our children in Kinderhut's ski school and toddler nursery in mid-February. We initially reserved two days of ski school for our 3 year old (who just turned 3 and is not yet potty trained -- Kinderhut is the only ski school on the mountain that will change diapers), and two days of toddler nursery for our 12 month old. We also convinced the two couples traveling with us to change their day care reservations and enroll their collective four children in Kinderhut's programs. One of those four children also enrolled in ski school, the other three used the day care program. Collectively, the three couples had children of ages 4, 3 (x2), 2, 12 months, and 3 months in Kinderhut's programs. During the course of the first day our children were there, the three couples (ourselves included) received no fewer than five calls from Kinderhut telling us that four of our six children (one of the ski school kids, and three of the nursery kids) were "sad" and wanted their parents. In all cases, the staff member who called tried to convince us to come and remove our children from the program early. We initially resisted this, but eventually gave in and removed three of the "problem" children early from the program. I put "problem" in quotes because as far as we could tell, the only issues with any of our kids was normal child "I want my mommy" type behavior, which we feel like any competent day care should be able to handle. I hope all the parents out there can sympathize when I say I expect to be called by a day care if my child is injured, bleeding, or truly, truly inconsolable, but certainly not just because they are whiny and "sad." Dealing with that is precisely what we're paying for. Based on this experience, we removed our kids from Kinderhut's program for the second day and enrolled them all in the Peak 8 Nursery run by the Breckenridge Resort. All six kids had a great time at the Peak 8 program and, notably, we didn't receive a single call about any of them for the entire day. There are a couple of possible explanations for this: 1) Our children collectively were much less well-behaved on the 1st day (at Kinderhut) than the 2nd day (at Peak 8 Nursery), or 2) the Peak 8 Nursery program is better suited to handle the normal, sometimes whiny, behavior of 1-4 year olds. After much discussion between the parents, we believe the correct answer is #2. The two three-year-olds who were enrolled in Kinderhut's ski school (which is conducted in a large group, which we think helped the kids acclimate) had a great time. If you want to enroll your kids in ski school (particularly if they aren't potty-trained), then this is a good choice. Be aware, however, that Kinderhut seems to have a rather low standard of tolerance for normal child behavior, and you can expect to receive frequent calls from the staff about your children. If you are looking primarily for day care services, and want a call-free day on the slopes, we recommend the Peak 8 Nursery program.

Everything reviewer (Joe B.) said above was true for us. Knowing that this is par for the course…read morefor a "Childcare" service that we paid $115 for is infuriating. Do the job you have been paid to do. 2 year olds (which my group had) occasionally get sad and ask for their mommy or daddy. If it weren't for the fact that all of the families in our group have extremely "easy" and mild mannered kids that frequent daycare/childcare and have even been to other mountain daycares (such as Vails - which they loved) then I might understand...but this still seems rediculous....again, do your jobs. We just paid $115 for someone to watch our kids for 4 hrs before they called us because they were incompetent. We (like joe above) were made to feel like our kids were problem children. Perhaps the problem is that this place is not equipped to or educated on how to handle a typical and relatively well behaved 2 year olds behavior. Summit County has some great private nanny services that we will definitely use the next time instead.

Peak 8 Child care is the best of the best. Our three year old is not quite ready to ski, so we…read morebooked him for three days at this facility. This was the first time we have put him in child care aside from his school at home, so naturally I was a bit worried. All of that worry was for nothing. The first day we were greeted, filled out forms, and Kristin came to get him to bring him back to his room. He was having a hard time saying goodbye to mom, but as they walked back, I could hear Kristin asking if he liked trains. It is so nice when people are engaging and pivoting the topic instead of telling a kid they are okay and mom will be back. He had a great first day. The second day was much easier during drop off. When I picked him up, he started crying and did not want to leave. The third day Kristin came out and he RAN to hug her. As a parent, this is the best feeling in the world to see someone treat your child with so much love that they are drawn to them. It is abundantly clear that the staff members work here because they love what they do. He also had Skyler and Maggie as teacher and while I had limited interaction with them, I know our son was very happy when I asked about them. They give a detailed report of the day, even report potty breaks. The level of detail and care was top notch. Honestly, he was happier here than at his own school back home. I could go on and on but the bottom line is that they are amazing and your child will be safe and loved.
