What a great day - weather always helps a lot - and the forecast was a high of 70 which is perfect…read more Being relatively close to the ocean, the winds were evident but nothing crazy. First of all, how have I never heard of this course? While it is quite the drive from home, it was worth the trip to play a course none of our foursome have played. Starter was friendly and informative. Course had NO HOUSES on it which is an anomaly in Jacksonville. It was close to what I think is the Fernandina airport - we saw some folks parachuting - but tree lined fairways and openness was a pleasant backdrop for our day. Tee boxes were maybe an 8 out of 10 - some needed some work but trees can have an effect with how the sun hits them so there is only so much that can be done. Fairways were well maintained and greens were consistent on every hole. If you're off the fairway, you will be penalized. Not a lot of room in the rough then past that, and your ball is gone - either in a creek or just a drop off in the woods. I lost a sleeve which is pretty good considering not ever having played here. Maybe that's why my shots taken were less risky. They even had a little TPC-esque 17th island hole almost - short but all water carry to the green. We will definitely be back - and soon.

Played here recently as part of a work event. Rental clubs were nice. Staff was friendly. The…read morecourse was in decent shape. I thought the greens rolled very well. The course is not that long. A decent place to play. Since it was a work event I don't have any perspective on the cost. Downside was that our six groups did not go off in a row. We had two groups and then three others in between before our final four groups. Tough booking for large groups in advance.

Ornate, luxurious, top notch service, everything you'd expect from a Ritz property…read more Lobby bar - A beautiful living room for hanging out during the day. We arrived at the Ritz too late for dinner anywhere but the lobby bar. Enjoyed several sushi rolls with drinks, each one imaginative fresh and tasty. But some event had recently let out and the lobby bar got crowded and LOUD. I mean over 100db loud (measured). That's the equivalent of enjoying sushi while jackhammers are crushing concrete all around you. Whoa! Ocean front one bedroom suite - Plush, large, comfortable. Curtains blocked most light, but the bright morning sun still peeked in around the edges. Comfortable bed and plenty cold for good sleeping. Two huge TVs. While the only premium feed provided is Netflix, the cable box had been lowered behind the TV in the living room such that it was simple to plug in your own device. If this is by design, kudos to the Ritz. If this was accidental, we feel very fortunate. Awesome to have a second half bath, wish that was an option at more hotels. The main bath, very roomy, with a huge dressing area, was a little odd in that, while there was a door to the toilet, there was no door to the tub/shower. Not a big deal, as it was around a corner providing a little privacy, it's still a weak design decision. Huge balcony with ocean front views that go on forever. A few chairs and a table, but a bit under furnished. Still quite a treat for the view, breeze and privacy. Never even slightly tempted to leave the property during our stay. Over a 4 night stay, we visited nearly every bar and restaurant option, and never felt like we were having to "make do". Pool - the kiddie pool was closed for renovations, so children took over the main pool all day. If you're not a tolerant direct parent, you're not gonna get in that water, if you know what I mean. Overall the pool and chairs were pretty crowded, so almost worth the premium to have rented a cabana for 8-2 one day. Lots more room and comfort, both lounge chairs and couch seating, TV, snacks and drinks.

The Ritz on Amelia Island is old and out dated. I stayed four nights my bill was over 2,400. I did…read morehave 120 food and beverage charge. The room was very dark. Even with curtains pulled back. The light fixtures in bathroom and bedroom were very dull. The shower was terrible, no water pressure no hot water. Like warm showers for four days. The pillows were flat with no support. I came for a meeting. The food was mostly buffet style and like the shower was Luke warm and not hot. The hotel charges a resort fee but there is really no resort to take advantage of. One pool with a lot of kids. Drinks around the pool started at 20.00. I didn't see any going the extra mile. No little extras for the guests. I would not come back to this hotel again
