Disclaimer: There are two locations of WellCo. One in Glebe and one in Leichhardt. Me and my friend didn't realize that until she was on two stopped buses later and I was waiting for her for 45 minutes confused. The food here was pretty good! We both had the avo toast with quinoa - I replaced the cheese with mushies and added salmon. I think we both could've done without the quinoa. If it was a brekkie bowl I would be totally down, but dry and topped upon my already-flavor-lacking avo wasn't the best option. I definitely could've used a lil garlic salt and some crushed pepper or chili flakes. All in all, I was able to see my bestfriend before I left and had a good sized avo toast with a juice for a decent price. At this point, I'm used to paying over $20 for toast here haha. I love it though so I can't complain. *The fresh squeezed juices here are delicious! We tried the OJ and watermelon and both were superb. Thanks Sydney, can't wait to be back and continue my food ventures one avo toast at a time.

On the surface…read moreit appears to work quite well, the minimalist decor and communal tables draw my inner indie towards the door and with one glance around the drinks served in jars and meals served on chopping boards made me want to stay. The problem with wellco is, once you get beyond aesthetics there isn't much more. With minimal gluten free, vegetarian and virtually no vegan options (with the exception of a leafy green salad) there isn't much that will appeal to the taste buds of the discerning customer. In their favor, they do make a delicious (bon)soy chai frappe and provide tabasco hot sauce on request.

Found myself in…read moreLeichhardt again last week, and after being disappointed by my first Ragamuffin encounter, I decided to give them another go. This time round, the muffins looked slightly more fluffy (as a good muffin should.) I perused the flavours and engaged the counter-girl in conversation. Turns out, she is the owner, and I enquired with regards to her unconventional cooking method of steaming then baking. She explained that her muffin journey began in Sydney markets. In her quest to maintain muffin integrity during transit to said markets, she began experimenting with cooking methods, and found that steaming then baking allowed for a tasty muffin that customers loved. Lizzie K's Grinch-y heart immediately grew three sizes that day... (I just love a good food lovers' story, and small businesses like this make me supremely happy.) I left after having purchased a blueberry cheesecake muffin for a quick-walking-back-to-the-car-why-not-have-a-munch-along-the-way snack, and guess what? The muffin was YUM. Yes, a weensy bit denser than I would have liked, but that's truly a matter of taste. The muffin was fresh baked as it was slightly warm, and this one much fluffier in texture. And that FILLING! Creamy, tangy, cheese-cake-y without being too sweet: just heaven. So, in summary, head to Ragamuffin for an array of interestingly-flavoured muffins, lovingly prepared by a local small food business. And pay no mind to the Grinch-y Yelper in the corner, braying loudly about how muffins should not be steamed. Sometimes, what's wrong can be so right.

So I treated myself to some takeaway for a late Sunday dinner. I'd often been to the Thai and Indian places for my well deserved late in the evening meal, so tonight I thought I'd go to Fujiyama's, the new(ish) Japanese Restaurant on Norton Street. I entered through the balcony eating area, which always seems to be full, went up to the counter and picked up a menu. I read through the dining options but in the back of my mind I always knew what I was going to eat. It had to be the Bento Box, that classic Japanese dish. An assortment of fine foods separated by barricades all inside a box. I looked around the classy joint as I awaited my order. Other people came in and picked up their pre-ordered meals. I wandered around and read newspapers that had been left on the various inside tables. Then finally, my food was ready. I picked up some chopsticks and a serviette and made my way home. I turned on the tele, I opened the box and I tucked in. Japanese food is always a little bit expensive, I find. But it is always good and I am seldom disappointed. This was no exception. Yummo. (Editors Note: Yummo?) (Seaton's Note: Do you have a problem with Yummo? The food was Yummo.) (Editors Note: You're an embarrassment.) (Seaton's Note: I just want love.)

The only thing I noticed was that the wait staff seemed less attentive than they used to be. We sat down at our reserved balcony table, shortly after we noticed the table besides us had left. I think this was because of the meal although some of my friends suggested it was because of us - who knows. :P The remnants of their meals strewn across the table stayed there until we were about to leave. It was not like they were extremely busy either. To add to this we had to stand and wave our arms around in order to get the attention of the waitresses. They were lovely and polite etc, just didn't check on us or even see us attempting to get their attention more subtly. I left the food until last so I can end on a more positive note. AMAZING - AGAIN! We enjoyed the delights of soft-shell crab salad, sashimi/sushi plater and I never come to this place without ordering their baked salmon roll (DEVINE). The sushi/sashimi here is always fresh and delicious, soft shelled crab is great and you all know what I think of their Baked Salmon Roll! mmm We all left with full bellies but still heading for Bar Italia for a yummy gelato for dessert. Grand Total, $17 each, no tip tonight. I'm still a fan but think they can work on checking the tables more often.

Furthermore, if you're gluten intolerant and living in Summer Hill, then you're really lucky, as this deli has a fantastic range of gluten free (gf) products. Some, but definitely not all, of these products are listed below: * The Pastry Pantry gf pastry sheets (sweet and savoury) * Zehnder gf breads * Healthy Feast gf pizza bases * Syndian gf and vegan products, including vege and lentil patties * Orgran gf products * Essential Ingredient wheat alternatives (meal, quinoa, etc.) Also, all the gluten free meats and cheeses are highlighted with green marks, making catering to your dietary needs simple. Others of their great brands and products include Mamma Rosa's frozen pastas, DeliVer deli meats, Pukara Estate oils (and gift packs in time for Christmas), fresh Brasserie breads, Serendipity ice creams (both pre-packaged punnets and by the scoop) and dry pastas made from spelt and wholemeal flours. They've got heaps of deli meats and cheeses in their display fridges and are one of the few places I've found in Sydney to sell Raclette ($39 per kilo). Now all I need is to find somewhere that sells Raclette grills... This deli doubles as a cafe and sells decent Schibello coffees for only $2 - probably the cheapest espresso you'll get in Sydney.

All of it was good, although the banana torte had a tad too much frosting. Service was fast and friendly. However, they need to check their fruit more thoroughly because I bought two punnets of strawberries from here and one of them had mould in it. Babow.

Now you don't have to thanks to Arepa, the ultimate restaurant for South American street food. This cozy little place isn't much to look at on the inside. It keeps things simple and minimalist. Posters stuck up with black tape, neon logo sign, black and white menu board. The dining areas are one large wooden table to share inside and three small tables outside. The menu is simple. Four different mains to choose from, each a corn dough pouch filled with wholesome and flavourful fillings. There is a vegetarian option, vegan option, chicken option and pork option, with four chooses for extra fillings. Four dollars extra will give you a generous side of fries. Easy, tasty, satisfying. Each table has its own napkin dispenser and bottle of chilli mayo and garlic aioli. Having the two greatest dipping sauces within arms reach truly defines heaven. We only made one of our corn pockets a combo, as one side of fries was enough for me and the wife. Was there an all out sauce war between the chilli mayo and garlic aioli? You bet. The chips were cooked right on point. A delightful crunch outside with hot fluffy... cassava! Not potato but cassava, which looks like white sweet potato but tastes and feels just like potato. I honestly thought it was potato chips but no... cassava. Our corn pockets came out in good time. They might look like something you'd have as a snack but believe me these hand held corn pockets will fill you up. My black beans and feta with guasacaca (mushy avocado) was amazing. The corn pocket held the filling firmly in place. The sharpness of the feta was subdued by the smoothness of the black beens. An absolute perfect balance of flavours. This place also offers a selection of canned beers and cider. I'm not much of a tinnies fan myself but at the end of the day beer is beer, be it in a bottle or a bucket. Got to try my first watermelon pilsner. It's just what you'd expect, beer with an undercutting watermelon flavour. I had no idea it could be done. Not sure I'd order it again but it was well worth the try. $42.50 for two corn pockets, one being a combo and two beers. At first I thought it was a bit steep but realised that the beers were $7 each. Would we come back? Try and stop us.
