It is a very small gym and you can absolutely hear everything, especially on the elipticals and treadmills. There were two women on the elipticals, having the time of their life talking (again loudly). I was on a nearby machine trying to listen to a book when my husband told them they were disruptive. As we were leaving the owner told us to never come back because my husband had actually talked to one of the women. The also said that he wasn't going to say anything to them and WE were the disruptive ones. We were equally entitled to be treated respectively as we also were PAYING MEMBERS of this gym. This is a very social gym with a LOT of talking. But hey! We found a great gym with with more amenities, machines and welcoming staff the very next day. So, thanks Stan you did us a favor.

The studio is fresh, clean and most of all, HOT very true to temperature. The teachers are knowledgeable, great motivators and very helpful in making adjustments. What I look for is a vacation / travel membership. What I really like is this membership, which lasts a week is good at any of the RHY locations. This was helpful and convenient. Either they are not trained properly or they follow the owners' directions (even worse). The employees (and probably the owners) know absolutely nothing about gym etiquette. Seems like they just bought this business w/o a clue of what a gym should be like to have satisfied customers. First of all, I have never heard of a gym opening at 10 o'clock, same time that the first class starts! Not even the courtesy of opening few minutes earlier to get the people in so they can do some warm up and take care of various business, like getting dressed!! They used to close at 8:30 M-Th (the earliest of any gym I've been), now they close at 7!! Incredible, never heard of such a thing. Oh, okay they sell 24-7 cards. So, I guess you're kind of steered that direction. That's pretty crappy. The monthly fee is as high as I've paid anywhere else. But now, I've not seen that monthly charge reduced to compensate for the shorter hours. They have all kinds of rules posted around the gym. You can actually walk around just to look at all the signs to entertain yourself (done that myself few times). And the funny (?) thing is that their own trainers don't follow them!! On two occasions I personally saw a woman trainer load the leg press with 4 45-lb plates per side and just leave it there ... for the next one to unload. I've been called a "ghost" by one of those working at the desk. I've been asked "to leave with me" by a woman at the desk when it was approaching 5 min. to closing. The same one that, when I pointed at the sign showing closing time half hour later, called her boss to complain because she would have gotten stuck there another 30 min. They immediately got rid of that sign and put a new one up. Every gym I've been, there is a courtesy of giving people 5/10 extra minutes to complete their workout. Don't expect that here!! Part of a gym's etiquette is to not bother someone while he is training. Don't expect that here!! I have been interrupted few times and once when I actually was under the weights! I see my review is getting pretty long. More on next installment.

What a clean and friendly facility available to Greene County. We were traveling on spring break…read moreand spent a few nights in the area. My wife is pretty fanatic about getting her workouts in, even on vacation. We stopped to check out the Greene County Y and found they offered reciprocity to other Y members. This is such a great program for the YMCA to offer and the Greene County Y is now the second time I've taken advantage of it. We often do Les Mills programs at our home Y and dropped in on a 6 a.m. "fight back fit" class thinking it would be of a similar cardio based nature to what we are used to. It turns out this was an actual sparring type program with a small group of regular Greene County members. The group was immediately very inviting and welcomed us into their class. We each worked with a class regular that really sacrificed their own morning workout to work with the newbies. We had a lot of fun in this class and wish our own Y at home offered a similar program. The facility was clean throughout. The steam room was a bonus because we don't have one of those back home. Thank you to the Tuesday morning fight back fit class for being so welcoming and thank you Greene County Y for offering up such a great facility with quality programming.

5/22/17 From the archive…read more Knowing that my hotel I was staying at for the evening, the Hampton Inn in Greeneville, has a sparse workout area, I decided to head over to the Y to get a proper workout in before heading to the hotel. I was pleasantly surprised with what I found. I checked in at the front desk, made my way to the locker rooms, and got changed up. Visiting all of these gyms around the country makes me appreciate my home gym even more. There was nothing inherently wrong with the locker room here, especially if you hadn't experienced something better, but this was just a basic LR. The lockers were the old high school metal kind with the see through grates. The benches were plain wooden, and the showers were very basic as well. But, everything was clean and they offered towels, so I cant make any major complaints. The workout facility was bigger than I expected. Greeneville isn't exactly a burgeoning metropolis, but the facility is a great size. It is a classic Y prototype. You know, the one from the song by the Village People? There was a game room, lap pool, two gymnasiums, a lounge, a child care area, basically everything anyone of any age needs to occupy some time either after school or after work. There kids playing on the pool table and in the gyms, playing on the soccer fields and playground outside, and adults having fun as well. The workout equipment was updated and worked fine. The free weights section(s) were kind of small and cramped with only two sets of each poundage, making finding the proper weight difficult at times. But the treadmills seemed brand new. I missed having the TV display on the treadmill itself, but there were several tvs spread around. I will most definitely hit this place up next time I am staying in town. Since I already have a Y membership, this will be very convenient.
