This is Liverpool's official Register's Office for the registration of births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships.
As an intermediate level genealogist I have had much contact with this office which houses the original Liverpool birth, marriage and death registers from 1837 to the present day, which has been of tremendous help to my research. Laura Pennington, deputy superintendent registrar, is efficient and consistently amiable: responding to requests and dispatching required documents swiftly. I have dealt with other GRO'S who have been considerably less approachable.
The documents are a little pricey, rising recently from £7 to £9- not bad for a one off, but I require dozens for ancestral research!
I have had to apply in writing for my documents with a covering cheque and await postal delivery. For copies of personal birth/marriage certificates the process may be different.
I would suggest calling before hand to check procedures and costs, otherwise, the building is easily located near Moorfield's train station. read more
