However…read moremy main criticism with the pharmacy is when using the prescription pickup service when they have not filled the script despite having plenty of prior notice (24 hours +)sometimes they have misplaced the prescription which has necessitated me to have to go to the Dyfed Road surgery and obtain a copy which is very inconvenient . Finally when using the pharmacy speed is not a word that springs to mind , I know that medication needs to be checked and safely dispensed but when your the only customer in the shop does it really take 30 minutes to dispense one item ? The front end shop staff are very warm and friendly but the organisation of the aforementioned has room for improvement

This is a fairly small shop, but it's tightly packed with most things you could ever possibly need for your health and beauty needs. Imagine a condensed Boots, and this is what you'll get. They have a good range of shampoo, toothpaste, soap etc, but it's all a little more expensive than you might pay in the supermarket or Boots. I guess that's to be expensive... ahem, I mean expected. However, the service here is always very personable and polite. Sometimes you do have to wait a little while to be seen as they put together complicated drug packets for people, but you won't mind too much when you get to the counter and are met with a smiley smile.

Well, I'd have nothing to review if I always went to the same place! Anyway, as pharmacies go (and let me tell you, they're all very similar!) this one does have a little bit of an edge for two main reasons. Number 1 - the service is vcery fast. I always wondered why it took so long to take a piece of paper, go back behind a screen and find the matching drugs. I still don't know. I assume that they have to fill in some kind of paperwork? Well, this pharmacy seems to cut through that documentation like superman. I appreciate the hurry. Number 2 - I like the Co-op. It's a good business, with good morals, good ethics and a good level of customer service.

The City Road Co-operative Pharmacy is quite small compared to their larger sites, and so they are limited as to what they can stock. Nevertheless, the carry a good range of products on the shop floor, and the pharmacy itself still manages to carry a full range of prescription drugs. They always have some great special offers on non-prescription drugs and toiletries too. I really enjoy the level of service that you get in a Co-operative Pharmacy. The staff are always really well trained and are consequently eminently knowledgeable about their product range. They can usually advise on local clinics, organisations and associations where appropriate. The pharmacists tend to be equally helpful.

What is really good however is the onsite pharmacist. I recently burnt myself whilst cooking, and whilst quite nasty it didn't seem serious enough to make a trip to casualty. Having Lloyds so close at hand was an absolute godsend, the pharmacist was able to examine my hand and give it the correct dressing. She was also very good at advising me how to correctly care for the burn, and what to look out for. If you're a Whitchurch local and have a mild injury or problem that you need advice on I think it's definitely worth making a trip to this pharmacy, if only just to be reassured.

This is true of all of their stores, but thankfully this one seems to be a lot more down to earth! This branch is pretty large and carries a really good selection of home first aid items and non-prescription drugs as well as a good range of low end to medium range toiletries. They are, of course, a dispensing chemist, (as are all of their branches), and the staff are friendlier than at most of the other outlets I've visited.

Cowbridge is reputed to be the most affluent town in South Wales, this branch of Lloyds Pharmacy has tailored its merchandise to the perceived demographic. It is a really small concession and predominantly sells designer perfumes and top end cosmetics, whilst obviously also providing a drug dispensing service. The Lloyds in Barry is a lot more down to earth, but still carries a large selection of expensive perfume. It is much larger and carries a much larger range of products. It remains more expensive than other outlets that offer the same products just a little further down the main shopping drag, and so I tend to rarely use this outlet.

It is also well placed to dispense to the patients attending The Balfour Clinic in the same district. Currently only stocking orthodox medicines, it is meeting the demands of this Primary Care area. However, there are plans to develop services beyond the present allopathic remit at some point in the future. Well known for all the right reasons by the indigenous local and student population, North Road Pharmacy has become pretty infamous amongst the emergency services as well, for much more curious reasons. Possessing a telephone number that terminates in 999 has prompted some of the more elderly patients, that use the pharmacy, to cause panic along the wire, believing that they are simply enquiring about repeat prescriptions, but instead have launched a fleet of patrol cars and fire engines! It doesn't happen so often these days, but it was a regular occurrence before they changed the area codes.

The shop front is immaculate, painted in sophisticated tones of green and cream, and the shop itself is laid out with flair and imagination, as well as being well ordered and easy to use. Clifton Pharmacy also has to be one of the largest independent chemists in Cardiff, and whilst it struggles to compete in scale with the large outlet of Boots in the centre of town, it is nevertheless an impressively stocked shop that carries a really good range of stock. It is possible to buy pretty much anything here that you would find in a larger chain, and the prices are competitive too. What distinguishes this chemist from the chains however, is the level of service that you receive here. The staff are really friendly and incredibly knowledgeable, and so this is great if you are not entirely sure about what you are looking for. In my experience you also don't have to wait very long for assistance, which is a very different story to the chemists in town. There is rarely a queue for the check-out here, and everything seems to run as smooth as clockwork. Clifton Pharmacy also offers a free prescription delivery and collection service.

We've even experienced chemists closing on certain estates with break-ins, and intimidation a regular feature chemists have reluctantly closed their doors. So I'm really pleased to fly the flag for the Clifton street Pharmacy where I've been going most of my life and Driscolls Pharmacy on Meteor Street which is close to where I live now. I think it's so important for us to support our local chemists as once they go I think it will be a long time before we get this vital local resource back. The chemist is a place where you get a lot of useful health information and support. It means not having to travel far to get prescriptions. Most people in my area don't have cars and rely on public transport.

Other services include; pregnancy testing (£5.00) and a weighing in station for thos of us who want to get an accurate reading of their weight each week, whilst dieting away the pounds, (or should I say Kg's?) Although this chemist is not a large outlet it still manages to carry a fair amount of stock. All of the essentials are well covered and there's a good range of toiletries and cosmetics too. The pharmacists are really helpful if you are feeling under the weather and are unsure what to buy to ease your symptoms.
