Great dentist and great staff. Dr. Pragasam genuinely cares for his patients and knows what he's doing. I wouldn't go anywhere else!

It is a challenging choice to write a review for a healthcare provider with your real identity, and…read moreit's doubly challenging to do so with a healthcare provider who has a partnership with the SB sheriff's department. Sellas is a very available dentist and saw me within a week of my referral; something I assumed was coincidental but quickly learned was a result of his loss of composure and professionalism. If you were booked for a procedure without consultation, that isn't convenient or a mistake. That is an intentional process so that you are prepped for surgery and then rushed for the bill before anything can go forward. The staff, particularly one individual, is VERY pushy about the billing. They will attempt to get you to sign up for an aggressive credit card to pay the bill. Additionally, if you don't have a good relationship with your dentist, you may fall for their predatory desire to go for more procedures than are needed. His inappropriate bedside manner began when he was going over the procedure with my partner and me and didn't end when I had a conversation with him on my post-surgery check-up. I have not and probably never will be an oral surgeon, but I know it's not okay to tell male patients that they're lucky they're not a woman because oral infections are more likely for people on their period. He also made snide remarks about my career and my income in both of my meetings with him. In fact, it was that 2nd time that made me pull him aside and discuss his unprofessional language, but it's probably all for not, as you can't teach an old dog new tricks, especially if that old dog was doing very well for themselves in regards to number of patients (He'll tell you that he's done +100,000 surgeries). I wondered how he was so successful in his practice by referrals alone, but he didn't let me wonder long. He's happy to tell you he's the oral surgeon for the county jail. If you're unfamiliar with that type of work, it's a very lucrative career move that isn't a result of effective and good medical practice. Lastly, if you're on his staff, what you think he's probably saying about you when no one is listening is what he is probably saying. TL;dr: CONS: Sellas is not afraid to bother and annoy you once you've paid him. He will attempt to do unnecessary procedures. He's a jail dentist with a cop attitude. He has issues with communicating to-and-about women. When given a chance to discuss his inappropriate manner alone he proceeded to double down and tell me about his relatives business on giving "boob jobs" and how the credit card partnership is on behalf of his "women" (staff). Pros: Widely available for all reasons mentioned above.

Four days before my appointment, the office called trying to cancel and move me to another day. When I said that wouldn't work, they called back an hour later saying they'd "fit me in" at 7:30 a.m. I showed up 20 minutes early, ready to go -- only to be greeted by a rude, short-tempered receptionist who acted like she hated her job. After spending 20 minutes filling out paperwork, she calls me back up to the counter and tells me it'll be $650 to over $1,000 -- even though the dentist hadn't even seen me yet. When I asked why this wasn't mentioned earlier, she snapped, "You should know what your insurance covers." She hadn't even asked for my insurance card yet! Then she tossed a flyer on the counter and told me to scan it to apply for some "medical credit card." The attitude was unbelievable. I also overheard another patient frustrated about a $150 cancellation fee, even though the office had just cancelled his appointment last minute. At that point, I walked out. I wasn't about to hand over hundreds of dollars to an office that can't communicate with basic respect. Dental work is stressful enough -- you shouldn't have to deal with rude front-desk staff, hidden costs, and zero professionalism. Save yourself the headache. Find a dentist that values transparency, communication, and respect. This place clearly doesn't.

It's unfortunate that I have to leave a negative review, because I was satisfied with the quality…read moreof the actual dental care that I received. Through either negligence or incompetence, I was severely overcharged for my treatment as well as charged, without any sort of notice, $150 for mistakenly missing an appointment. I had even answered the phone the day of the missed appointment, explained that I was at work and would be unable to attend, and was not told over the phone that I would be charged. Thankfully I was able to work with my insurance and be refunded, but whoever handles the billing at this office needs to be held accountable. The older woman at the front desk is incredibly rude and refused to cooperate with me in any way when I was upset about the sudden charge and told her my insurance informed me I was overcharged. She and the billing are the entire reason I now have no desire to return to this office, which again, is a shame, because the actual dentists treating patients are lovely and did great work.

There is a full, wrap around "under the sea" themed mural on the walls of the main exam/cleaning room. T.V.'s are inset in the ceiling above each exam chair. The kid's are able to choose a video (mostly Disney films) they would like to watch during their visit. In addition to receiving stickers and a dental goody bag at the end of each visit, my boys are able to select a small toy or game from a treasure chest. The staff is friendly, gentle, and genuinely love what they do. Dr. Jenn is highly qualified, professional, and a master at her craft. However, she is not at all clinical. A visit with her is like a visit with a friend. She chats with our whole family, not just mom and dad OR the kids. We've even discussed what books we are currently reading. To be honest, I wish she were a family, not just a pediatric dentist. I've not had as much luck finding a quality DDS for myself. I'm actually a bit jealous of my kids where their dental care is concerned. Believe it or not, at the end of their last cleaning, when told everything looked good and they wouldn't need to come back for another 6 mo., my kids were actually disappointed. Need I say more?

I feel bad saying this, but I regret that I went to Dr. Lu for three years. The best thing I can say about her is that she is very thorough. However, here is a list of just some of my issues with her: -the tremor -she was often late for appointments, sometimes over an hour -she told me I needed a root canal when I didn't actually need one. She told my husband he needed one too, but he was smart enough to get a second opinion who said he definitely did not -the color she recommended for my root canal's crown does not match my natural teeth (see pic) -the crown itself was inappropriately sized and ground down the enamel on my bottom tooth, which I now need another crown for -she recommended my husband and I get a $150 gum treatment once a year. Every other dentist we've gone to previously and since has applauded our gum health and hygiene habits and has not recommended gum treatment. I really do feel bad for posting this but I know Dr Lu sees a lot of Loma Linda students and residents and I don't want others to get taken advantage of like I was :(

However, Dr. Zalsman did an amazing job and I recovered well! He and his staff did an amazing job educating me, answered any questions I had, and he even called me after the surgery to make sure I was okay. I asked my dentist (of 24 years) who he would use, and without hesitation he recommended Dr. Zalsman, stating that Dr. Zalsman had done an excellent job on his implant. My dentist was correct. Not only is Dr. Zalsman a dentist, but he is also an M.D., which provided me with an extra level of confidence. The office is clean and welcoming. The staff is beyond courteous. They are professional, yet personable and good humored. Appointments are kept timely, and the place runs effectively and efficiently. On a number of occasions, after arriving early, I was actually seen in advance of the appointment time. Having a dental implant can be an anxiety-provoking process. The bone needs to be prepared to receive the implant, and it is not unusual to have to supplement the existing bone with additional bone material from nearby. I opted for the general anesthesia, which costs a bit more but relieved me of the stress and (frankly) fear associated with enduring this complex procedure. The clerical and medical staff is as good as I've seen anywhere. The medical assistants tasked with setting me up for the surgery went out of their way to ensure that I was comfortable and at ease. I highly recommend this office for any of your complex dental procedure needs.
