When I had an account with Lloyds, this was my go-to bank, instead of the crazy sister branch on Queen Street. The staff here are extremely friendly (even complimenting me on a hat I was wearing), in addition to being efficient and helpful on pretty much every occasion. A cash machine can be found outside, which is normally less busy than the Tesco option a few minutes' walk away (especially on a Friday and Saturday night). The only downside is that it's not open as late as other branches and closed all day on Saturday and Sunday. Please not this branch also boasts a Financial Health Specialist.

It is a place regularly used by the locals for everyday use and for the visiting tourists. NatWest is a good bank though, they are very helpful. An open top bus which tells you all about the history of Cardiff in relation to the places it travels to. There are many other buses to take you to all the areas of Cardiff and to some places just beyond this city also. The city centre tends to be very busy with traffic and people. These are often where I go. I'm not a crazy shopper, nor do I always have the money to spend, so for those; very mad, addictive, shop a holicks this is the town centre to be! A fabulous to socialise, but not to unwind or relax, but to get what you need and to get become organised and the things you need done. It depends where you stay in relation to how you get there and I travel by bus in less a family member kindly gives me a lift, Richmond Road is where Kings Monkton school, just before Dumfries Place bus stop, all of which you will soon see the town centre staring you in the face with Sainsbury's looking straight at you and Queen street (the street it's on).

It is situated on the corner of St Mary's street opposite Capitol shopping centre. Usually when I go to the bank I am left waiting for ages to cancel a direct debit or pay a bill but this bank offers a meet and greet service. As soon as I walked into this bank I was pounced upon (in a nice way) by members of staff eager to help. If they can avoid you queueing for a cashier they will. They have shown me how to use the rapid deposit box when I am paying in checks and set me up with an online account so I can manage my account from home. I love the fact these guys try and make my banking quicker and easier.

For some reason (I'm being sarcastic, I've just given the reason,) there is never a queue to be served in this branch. So, if you are prepared to tough it out and keep strong to your resolve of saying no then this is a good branch to use. It is conveniently located in the centre of the main shopping area of Cardiff. The staff are polite although pushy (see comment above) and it is modern, clean and airy. There are even comfy seats where you can sit down for 10 minutes if your feet are aching!

As it's a small town you can usually drop in and see a personal banker without too much waiting although the desks are right near the entrance so private conversations don't exactly feel private. Lunchtime queues can be a bit mad so best to avoid between the hours of 12 and 2.

However, the staff obviously have targets to meet and I am always being asked whether I would like an appointment to have a financial review. (Jargon for what can we sell you to make lots of money out of you.) The staff can be a bit grumpy when I decline their offer. There is free parking on the surrounding streets although it can be a bit hit and miss actually finding a space, especially in the tourist season.

Always saying 'thank you for waiting' as you approach the glass, even if you've only just walked in and there's no queue whatsoever. It's pretty cramped so if you need to pay in a large sum of money or do any laundering then this probably isn't your best best as a whisper uttered at one side of the shop can be heard crystal clear from the other. For more personal services, (overdrafts, morgages etc) there is an area for personal bankers, again though, due to the size of the shop, don't expect your private life to remain entirely private.

Barclays has been in Holton Road for a long time, but it has only recently moved into these larger…read morepremises. The staff are helpful and well trained. There is now plenty of room for them to carry out confidential conversations with ther customers. There are also, of course, the usual cashier counters along one wall of the branch. The building itself is over 100 years old and was part of the former Dan Evans department store whch closed down last year. Inside, the accomodation has been refurbished and is well lit and airey. The new location of this branch is better than before and it is now close to the heart of the shopping area.

This is a very small branch of Lloyds TSB in Canton, which is often mistaken for its larger sister…read morebank down the road. When they answer the phone there they quickly double check that it's really the Canton branch you want, because they have so any calls for the other one. I often go into this bank, and have been with them for many, many years. This is that bank that I have always dealt with for any major changes to my accounts and life situations. Because it's so small, it also seems intimate and friendly, especially when compared to many of the bigger banks in town. A friend of mine recently came over from New Zealand and commented that British banks are big and serious and scary. Which is completely true! In New Zealand you get to sit down, have a chat and listen to ABBA. Fortunately, nice little banks like this one in Canton exist here too. Having literally just come off the phone with them, they were exceptionally helpful and polite; providing a more personable service than we might be used to over the phone.

Every time I've dropped by the customer service is really friendly yet extremely professional such as Barclays. When it gets busy, there's constantly staff around trying to make sure everyone gets seen to so your experience is as quick and painless as possible. Normally, when I make a deposit into an account, I like using the counter instead of drop-box because I want to double check that the cash is going into the right account. A man came by to teach me how to use the drop-box once, but I decided to stay in the queue for the counter. I sheepishly apologised to him letting him know that I just want to ensure the money is going to the right place but he made me feel really at ease and told me that it's important that whichever method I choose I'm 100% comfortable with it. --- Maybe in the future if I stop being so lazy I finally make the switch to Lloyds because my experience with them so far has been wonderful!
