Unfortunately my local Leatherhead branch has closed. This was a fruitless journey as it only opens Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, not particularly helpful for the customers. As my day's arrangements today took me near to Epsom I visited the Epsom branch and presented the letter to the gentleman behind the counter who asked for proof of I D. I asked if the standard letter requested I D and he confirmed it did not. My bus pass, issued by Surrey County Council and showing a current date, my name and my photograph was not acceptable although the name matches the letter Halifax sent me and the debit card of the account I wanted the money transferred to. I asked to see the manager but apparently he was in a meeting. What a shambles. I asked if he would paying my parking fee but I merely received a blank stare. Halifax are still earning interest on my money that I should have in my account.

I find the staff here to be pretty friendly and helpful, they can help regarding both HSBC and First Direct accounts. I could easily pay in money, even though I had forgotten my card, as I had access to my online banking portal. The branch feels fairly modern overall, I like the "This is Manchester" branding on the exterior window and the overall look/feel of the branch. I do find their opening hours to be a little restrictive, especially on weekends, they close at 1 pm on Saturday and then they're closed until Monday, during the week the hours are the standard 9 - 5. 4* - Good bank branch in the centre of town for HSBC and First Direct customers and one I'll surely be returning to in the not so distant future.

And I've been to a few. It's got quite a few floors which probably meets a lot of different banking needs. There's always lots of staff looking to help you, answer your question, direct you to a floor or one of the most easiest, self-sufficient pieces of machinery ever made to man. Most of the time going to the bank is a hectic, painful experience. But it's made ever so easier at St Ann's.

This store seems to do the basics very well rather than introducing other stuff which leads to a lower standard of everything else. The account and product knowledge is also pretty good, and the opening hours of the store are also pretty good, being open on Sunday's and even having the longest opening hours (Until 4 pm) in the city during the ongoing Covid-19 crisis, a title shared with Metro Bank. Unlike nearby Natwest, they don't have coin processing facilities unless you complete a paying-in slip which I find a little old fashioned (having to complete and post a paying in envelope) 4*

The building it is located in is a huge, highly impressive building and as you walk in, due to the large and impressive nature of the building, it certainly doesn't feel like a bank. There was a decent amount of staffed tills and self service machines to withdraw and pay-in money, there could have been more however due to the size of the branch. The branch of course follows the traditional Natwest layout, with free wifi inside the store (Most banks and all Natwest stores have this now) and albeit no one welcomed me in, the staff member seemed friendly and efficent to come to my aid when having an issue paying money into my account. The impressive nature of the building makes that banking experience nicer, and this is one of my favourite Natwest branches and despite some flaws mentionef, I feel this branch deserves a mid to high three-star rating.

The thing I like about this place that other banks in the town are lacking in is the seating facilities. If you are waiting to see an advisor then there are some comfortable chairs for you to sit down on and usually a couple of magazines, albeit banking ones. The cash machines in this place do go out of order a lot and I think that the reason for this is down to the fact that the front section of the bank remains open to the public 24 hours a day, even when the main cashier section of the bank has closed. I have been in many a time on a Monday morning to find bank slips scattered all over the floor, the cash machines out of order and in one case, when it was early morning - there was even what looked like a homeless person sleeping on the floor. The bank doesnt appear to be as big in size as barclays which I also use but there is very little to choose between them in terms of quality of service and the facilities available.

This Lloyds Bank is probably my joint favourite bank in Bolton alongside Natwest, and my second favourite bank in the Lloyds Bank network after the Market Street branch nearby in Manchester city centre. Deapite being in quite an old building, the store is modern inside and even smells nice with a good amount of staffed counters, sofas and machines to withdraw and pay in money. The staff here seemed friendly and slightly helpful, telling me to use another cash machine after I was unable to get a mini statement, which probably was an issue as I'm a TSB customer, who used to trade as Lloyds TSB until the split. Removing options in the first place to avoid stress and confusion would be a good idea. Improvements could include renevation to the exterior and making the most of the free-space in the bank, perhaps by adding more machines and counters etc would be a good idea, but for now I feel this bank deserves a high three-star rating.
