Last month my friend and I dined in for a late dinner at Lobster Cave and it was nothing short of impressive. From the moment we arrived to the second we left the staff were impeccable and went out of their way to make sure we were well looked after. The professionalism of each and every staff member was faultless. We started with a grainy garlic bread which was accompanied with a capsicum dip, feta cheese and olives which was the perfect start to our meal. Our drinks (the lychee and blueberry mojito and Asahi) were delivered promptly and were refreshingly delightful. Our entrees which were the beer battered scallops with sweet chilli dipping sauce and the Sicilian black mussels, came out quickly and were presented beautifully. The scallops were cooked exquisitely and melted in your mouth. The dipping sauce was the ideal accoutrement. The mussels were lovely and fresh. The portion sizes were quite large so after finishing the entree plus garlic bread we were beginning to get quite full so hoped that our main courses wouldn't come out too quickly. Luckily, they gave us a bit of time between finishing the entree to bringing out our mains, which were the Aged black Angus steak topped with prawns and a gnocchi gratin and broccolini on the side and the scampi fettuccine. Both mains were above and beyond value for money and unfortunately we could only eat half of what was on our plates as the sizes are very generous. A nice touch was at the end of our meals was we were given a complimentary shot of Bailey's, sugar cookies with a hazelnut filling and chocolates. This has now become a favourite, so much so that we will be coming back next weekend to try the seafood with lobster platter and cocktail degustation :) read more

The Lobster Cave is one of those places that has an amazing reputation and I was intrigued to finally get to try it after years of wondering what it's actually like. We had a lovely lunch here and of course indulged in their seafood delights. I had a bowl of mussels to start followed by scallops in cheese sauce, with a bonus side of lobster tail. It was all lovely, fabulous and beautifully presented. Service is slick and professional, and overall this restaurant has a relaxing atmosphere. For me though it loses a star because their menu is one of the most convoluted and un-readable I've seen in a long time. There's about 3 different lunch menus and it's not easy to see the options available. They'd be better off doing a lunch menu and a la carte. read more

Absolutely overpriced. 2 Adults and 1 child over 400 $. BTW our son only had a bowl of chips. They scam also with vouchers they sell you upfront. You go there and get told that there vouchers are not valid as it iOS the wrong day of the week. The food is ok but nothing special at all. 80% Deep fried and 20% fresh. I've been here many times before and was never disappointed, particularly with the service. Last Sunday I took my friend here. It was for a gift that I bought her for her birthday off a Groupon deal. For $60 for two, we received a 3 course meal and a glass of wine. I could not fault my food. Seared Tuna with a beetroot salad and for main, grilled Atlantic salmon with creamy mash and a lemon buttery sauce. Desert was a creme brulee. We of course had starters with a plate of dips and crusty bread and a few cocktails. We loved it. We dined outside as inside was busy but I do recommend if you get a chance to dine indoors as the place is surrounded by fish tanks. Lobster cave know how to do their seafood and I recommend it very much. Oh! We also got a $50 voucher off our next meal. Went here lastnight with my wife after more than 10 years and it was amazing. Service from the time we got seated right through till the time we left was top notch. Entries were delicious and quite large. Mains (with lobster tail) were both cooked perfectly and again well proportioned. To finish out desert was yum! We went for the set menu as we got a gift certificate and the choices are plentiful. The drink selection on these set menus are great as well. This restaurant was, I have to admit, a bit disappointing. The decor is very elegant and classy, the wait staff was very polite, and our party of 12 was seated very quickly. The pros: The food portions were very generous, and everyone's dishes were delicious. I had the Malibu Chicken in Chardonnay Sauce with a side of Potato Gratin and my boyfriend had the lamb shoulder, prawns, and the lobster tail top up on mash. The cons: The wait to have our order taken and the subsequent wait to get our food served was far too long. Additionally, we constantly had to wait or ask for more water or wine. The food is definitely worth the price tag, but I can't say I would be back. Personally, I believe customer service should be top notch (especially when paying so much). read more

I have to leave a review on this so people can make an informative decision before wasting their time, energy and money coming to this restaurant. My family friends liked this restaurant a lot originally and they had been here a few times, so I decided to take them there and treat them for lunch. In short, my overall experience (and my family friends as well) is EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING and here are the reasons: Food - If you have been to other fine dining restaurants at a similar price point in Melbourne, the food at Lobster Cave is not on par with other seafood restaurants I have tried in Melbourne. One guest could smell/taste ammonia in one of the lobster tails we had, and the olive pits weren't removed from the salad. This isn't very pleasant. The oysters, steaks were ok. The lobsters were dried, they were not hot enough when it was served and it's not buttery soft. The black truffle rice on the side was disappointing, the flavour I can taste is salt and nothing much. The scallops were good. The embarrassing thing is I found the chip taste the best. This is a lead to my 2nd point about pricing. Pricing - Just to give you what kind of price point Lobster Cave has, the Seafood platter for 2 people is $500 and 900 for 4 people and there are other dishes on the menu as well. With this price point and location (restaurant 20kms away from CBD), I expect the food and service at the minimum on par with most of the fining dining near the CBD, but unfortunately, that's not the case. So if you have been to fine dining in near CBD, South Yarra, Southbank...etc, I suggest saving your time to travel to this restaurant for seafood. You can find somewhere A LOT better for sure with this price point. Also, just another note, the staff won't tell you the speaking water is not complimentary, they told me "it's unlimited". I only realised I was charged for $62.5 for water for 5 people when the bills came. The staff can at least mention that something like it doesn't come as a "per bottle" but "per person". I found this is quite sneaky and that's not very great customer service. Please note that I am paying FULL price for this and I don't have any vouchers like others to get a discount on the meal. Atmosphere - To be transparent, Lobster Cave has fine dining pricing but it doesn't have a fine dining atmosphere. The place is dark, interior design, foods are not impressive at all. My family friends were also very disappointed despite the fact that they have been here a few times before. They told me they wouldn't come back again after this experience, and so do I. I had already pasted my feedback about the food and the service to the staff when I was there. She was lovely but that's doesn't improve my perspective of this restaurant after this. First Impression: Beautiful! Service: Flawless Food: Great Ambience: Fantastic Value for money? Depends, it is quite exy. When we went in, we were greeted by a friendly (maybe over-friendly?) waiter who saw the reservation sheet and took us to a table. He waited while I took off my coat and placed it on the chair. He noticed I shivered from the draft of wind as the door opened and asked if we would prefer to sit someplace else. I said 'yes' and he took us to a perfectly positioned table. I was already pretty impressed by then - everything was spectacular - the decor, the way the tables were organised, the soft music, the overall ambience and the attentiveness of the staff. The waiter knew it was my birthday and address me as 'the birthday girl' the whole time and made me feel super special. The wine was good, the food was great and the settting! Oh the setting! It was truly gorgeous. I am a sucker for good service and a nice place. We were there for nearly 3 hours, chit chatting, eating the 3 course meal and sipping on the red. Was great! My partner took me there for my Birthday. I have to say, it was dfinitely as good as I would have expected for my birthday dinner to be! He had a Groupon Voucher and paid a little bit extra for some sort of an upgrade which included wine. It was still fairly expensive but so are lobsters. read more

This place was full on Thursday night. I believe that menu is a bit overpriced, but it looks like these guys attract the crowd giving generous membership discounts and selling Groupons. In this case, great value and obviously makes sense to visit. Food is great, although next time I'll probably pick up a stake instead of lobsters. That's just my personal choice. Went to this place on Sunday and as expected the place is packed with customers. As we dine in, the staff recommend the Groupon Deal for an entree, main, dessert and a choice of wine/drink. I was quite surprise when told that it also include a choice of whole lobster for main. I ordered their Lobster Bisque for entree, Lobster with garlic sauce for main, Blood Orange Sorbet for dessert and a glass of lemon lime bitter. I had to point out that the portions are huge! The entree was super tasty and pack in lobster flavour. I reckon that the lobster taste great by itself without any sauces. The menu is extremely large and confusing. Meals are way overpriced for what you get. Lobster is beautiful but be prepared to pay for it.

Hi I would like to share my story Especially to staff who wants to or is working there "Be prepared" I have been with the Cave for about 3.5 months as a casual employee working approximately 30-40 hours per week. I received a call on a fine morning asking how is it all working out, my concerns and work atmosphere. I replied all is well and that I enjoy my work. The reason for the call was a guy left the job and wrote negative mail to the boss about the workplace and how staff were rude to him, he went ahead and listed a few names of staff which also had mine saying "(the guy and my conversation) why are there so many new staff, me answering people don't like working here and they leave soon" I didn't say that but what came next was a shock a text message from my Manager- "Hi change of plans, we don't have any more shifts for you now". Me - Hi just for this week or permanently, and may I know the reason? Manager - "We go with our gut feeling!" What do you do? I know I will find new job soon. But this has really bought me down. I have ditched my plans and other jobs when they needed me and worked my **** off, what do I get in return? read more

First time visit. Exceptional, warm, attentive, friendly service. Great intimate atmosphere, perfect for spending with family and good friends (and dates!). Not suitable for kids.
