Absolutely amazing lobster roll and crab roll in San Diego! This is probably the best lobster roll in San Diego! The bread was nicely buttered up and slight crispy on the outside. However, the bread is still soft inside for the crab roll! The whole flavors are just amazing. It's hard to describe the perfect balance of seafood flavor and butter and the bread. I got food from here to go, and overall it was pretty good but it definitely would have been much better had I gotten to eat it immediately on site (definitely not the restaurant's fault, darn covid). I had the lobster roll which tasted pretty typical and not particularly special. It's a little awkward to reheat as you don't want to overcook the seafood, but also something that doesn't necessarily taste good cold either as the seafood texture gets a little stiff. At least it tasted pretty fresh and not too seafood-y; I just wasn't a huge fan of the texture of the sandwich overall. It was also a little on the dry side and I ended up using the entire side of butter to add moisture to the sandwich. I also got to try a bite of my boyfriend's crab sandwich which I thought held up much better to the travel. I think the crab had a better flavor & texture compared to the lobster overall and didn't need as much butter to flavor the sandwich. Pretty good tasting lobster roll with tender pieces of lobster. I just wish lobster wasn't so expensive as I could eat a lot more than the portions you normally get for a reasonable price. This was a surprisingly celiac friendly place! They have a gluten free roll for the lobster roll and they used a grilled that is typically just a backup and they cleaned it prior to using. So I felt pretty comfortable about cross contamination. The lobster roll itself was really tasty, the lobster was good quality and I really did enjoy something that felt like a splurge. The red chowder though was not good. There wasn't much in the soup aside from broth and it wasn't really worth the cost. The bisque wasn't gluten free so I couldn't have that. But the others seemed to enjoy it would could eat it. This was a super casual place and it is a pretty pricey meal. Not a ton of options for kids but they were pretty kid friendly in service. Decent Maine lobster roll in San Diego? Why yes! Lobster West fits the bill. I got the role and some clam chowder and some coleslaw. The role was pretty much like you get all over Maine, Good role, toasty on the outside and soft on the inside. Big chunks of Maine lobster not overdressed making the lobster the star! The clam chowder was decent too. That's super thick like they sometimes make it out here. Good amount of clams and just enough potatoes. Coke slaw, meh, Not bad, nothing to write home about though. I think it would be hard to take a large party here, so plan accordingly! Food: We ordered the lobster and crab roll (basic size)! Both lobster and crab rolls were very yummy! The bread is sooo good, well buttered and toasted. I didn't expect the meat to be cold (like straight out of a fridge kind of cold). Meat was well seasoned and overall I think it's definitely worth the price. Next time I'd order some sides because we felt a bit incomplete without them (you get a free cup of soup with purchase of combo if you check in on yelp) unfortunately, I didn't see till after I had ordered but now I have the perfect excuse to come back! Lobster West is always delicious! And ever since I was diagnosed with celiac 3 years ago, I've been able to still eat here all the time! Thanks to their gf bread, I'm always here and my boyfriend really enjoys it too! I usually go for the shrimp roll on gluten free bread with a side of their lemon tarragon aioli! So delicious if your an aioli person then definitely get a side to put on your sandwich! It's a delicious little hack I learned a couple years ago. We came here during a rainy cold day. Customer service was great. Nice and friendly. Since it's Covid times, we sat at a table outside. We ordered 2 lobster rolls and 2 cups of clam chowder. The seafood rolls were alright, but the clam chowder was so so good! The brioche rolls were very buttery, but I don't think the seafood was fresh. We love this place, the lobster rolls you can get "classic " or "Boss" that has 50% more meat. Lobster is cooked to perfection slightly salted and a seasoning on top, slight mayo. I hate mayo so I left if IFF of mine, you can taste the lobster more. Comes on a typical buttered/toasted split top warm bun....delicious! They also have shrimp and crab rolls. They have lobster bisque and New England clam chowder, both are good. Lots of clams, creamy and tender potatoes. They also have salads, topped with lobster in a vinaigrette or a crab cake topped green salad - I have not tried these. They have various sides from crab cakes, baked beans, slaw and side green salads. Grilled cheese for the kids if they don't like seafood. Service during Covid is order at the front, get a number, sit down and they'll bring you your order. They do have beer and wine here too. Whoppie pie for dessert. So this place was a nice, little spot to drop in for a quick lunch. We got beers, nice and cold with good choices. We shared the trio of soup. The lobster bisque was great, flavorful and satisfying. I would come back just for that! Included in the trio was also New England clam chowder, good, I think it could've used more clams, but perhaps it wasn't stirred up well before serving, however, I make a killer clam chowder so, I wouldn't order it again. There was also a Maryland crab soup, interesting, broth based with some veggies and potatoes, but almost no crab in sight, so a let down there, plus it wasn't heated properly. On that note the lobster bisque wasn't warm enough but the chowder was piping hot, which is what I expect and crave, especially on a chilly day. We were the first people of the day, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and say maybe they were trying to serve us quickly, but I would've waited to have a hot soup. We also got two classic lobster rolls. They are a good portion for two gals wanting to not be too stuffed. The lobster chunks are ample, even for a smaller sandwich. The rolls are fresh and house made, plus butter-toasted perfectly. I would maybe get a bigger sando if we didn't try the soups. Plus we were going out to dinner for a birthday celebration so we didn't need a huge lunch. The restaurant was clean and organized, the kitchen looked clean too, from what I could see. Service was very fast. Again, we were the first people of the day. Our server was a nice, young guy with a friendly attitude which always makes the experience that much better!
