    Fish tacos
    Bea S.

3.5 but rounding up. Beautiful restaurant, warm and friendly service, street parking so can be busy, and gorgeous looking food. Seriously the plating is lovely. Everything needed salt. Fish tacos needed more sauce or salsa and also I tried Pueblo's the other day and the price and size of their fish tacos can't be beat. Well fried but like fancy fish sticks. (No hate, I love fish sticks). Personally for me needed fat. Octopus plate was gorgeous. Potatoes had a nice garlicky kick. Octopus I've had more tender and flakey elsewhere. Here the cooking was uneven. Lovely when everything combined together. Needed salt. Pork belly taco was almost completely topped with parsley. Ceviche was made with cooked fish. Enjoyed the lightness and brightness. Needed salt for balance. Great acidity. Flautas looked nice but he said it was fat on fat with pork belly, egg yolk, and crema. Coconut Margarita was refreshing.

We were watching a band in the area while visiting Solano Beach and after the show got hungry. My bf found this place nearby and the menu seemed promising so we gave it a try and I'm so glad we did. We got there kinda towards the end of the night but not too late. We sat at the bar and had a fantastic time chatting with Nick. He was so friendly and also a fantastic bartender. Gave us lots of recs for San Diego while we were in town. The espresso martinis he made were delicious as well. I think the restaurant is new and is so cute and clean (side note, the wallpaper in the bathroom is so fun I loved it!!!) To eat we ordered the Mezze platter, the crispy Spanish octopus, the snapper ceviche, and the empanadas. We really enjoyed it all. I think we both agreed the octopus was our favorite. If you know me or my reviews, we get octopus every restaurant we go to where it's on the menu. This was the first time we got the more than just the tentacles. I think it was the head as well? It was delicious and so different and tasted great. The dish was really crispy, and the sauce it came with was perfectly paired. My bf didn't like the ceviche as much as I did but I really enjoyed it. It was acidic/limey. I enjoyed it but he said it was okay/ too sour... to each their own! All in all, really enjoyed this restaurant. Would love to come back here, unfortunately we are back in FL, but if we come back to the area we will be back!

Place is super cute!! I really liked it, live music, indoor outdoor vibe. Only one bartender so a touch slow but she rocked. Not a crazy amount of diversity on the drinks but it's a tequila mezcal place so makes sense. Portions a bit small. Oysters were pretty decent too! Loads of stuff on too which isn't my preferance but it was still very good! Mole was delicious too. Will be back.

My birthday dinner and I could not have chosen a more perfect dining experience to accentuate my day ! Our attentive, knowledgeable and amazing server, Katy, recommended choosing from the shareable section : volcano tostada, crispy Spanish octopus , hamachi crudo, and pork belly tacos . And, we chose every one of them and were extremely satisfied . Out of those 4, the 2 that stood out in robust flavor were the volcano tostada and the crispy Spanish octopus! There is a full service bar. There is outside/patio seating or inside . We chose inside and still enjoyed the "al fresco " feeling by its indoor-outdoor design. As a long-term resident, I am absolutely thrilled to see chic and trendy new eateries elevating our local dining scene. And, Mia's...being a great addition to that scene!!

Five of us went here to celebrate a friend's birthday. We ordered several appetizers and a couple entrées to share family style. Service was great, our waiter was very attentive and friendly. Food was good overall. A couple of temperature issues were experienced. Some of the food came out on the warm versus hot side, and our ribeye came out rare when we asked for medium (opposite of what usually happens when I personally order medium rare). Dishes, we liked/loved were the octopus, the hamachi, crude, squash blossom quesadilla (this is one of the warm dishes, so the cheese was coagulated and not melty), and the barramundi. The Carnita tacos were also pretty good, but that was a daily special as they had a roasted pig that day (on display out front!) The least favorite, and most pricey dish of the night was the $80 ribeye. Not only was it cooked incorrectly (rare vs medium), it was a very tough, chewy cut of meat. It was that type of chew like there was a tendon running throughout the whole meat . We probably should've just sent that one back completely and asked for a new cut. Drinks were also pretty good. I had a couple of margaritas, but I liked the passion fruit variety more than the spicy one. For the birthday girl, our waiter brought out a nice scoop of yummy gelato with a candle, which was a nice touch. At the end of the day, I think Mia's is worth a visit if you're in the area.

We had a girls night at Mia's last night and the food was just OK. We did love the ambiance of the restaurant tho... We each had a different margarita- the coconut, carrot passion and the aguachile. None of them were worth coming back for. If I had to choose out of the three- it would be the aguachile. We started off with the volcano tostadas- 3 come in an order. This was the best out of what we ordered. However- it was just ok. We then got the empanadas- 3 come in an order with a salsa and a chimichurri aioli. The salsa tasted like the filling of the empanada and the aioli tasted like tartar. My friend complained to constantly burping this up the rest of the night. I didn't think these were great... just ok. Wouldn't order them again. We ordered the seasonal oysters. These were also just ok. There was too much greenery on top that took away from the oysters. We finished with an espresso martini and carajillos. These two drinks saved the review. They were so good. Highly recommend coming in for the carajillo. The customer service was outstanding- also impacted my review. I would come back for the carajillo but that's about it.

Delicious Mediterranean spot in Solana Beach. We dined here before heading over to the Belly Up Tavern for a show and had an amazing meal! Dishes were flavorful with generous portion sizes and creative pairings. Lovely ambiance with trendy decor and friendly staff. We'll be back!

Came at 7PM on Sunday for light bites and we were able to be seated immediately for two people. There was parking outside of the restaurant along the street. Ordered the crispy fish tacos, hamachi crudo, and papas and mole negro. We wanted to try the octopus but it wasn't available. *hamachi crudo: the hamachi was melt in your mouth and the hibiscus ponzu was not just visually stunning but also bright and unique in flavor *papas and mole negro: I was a fan of how crispy and fluffy the potato pave was, mole was smoky and nutty *crispy fish taco: on the steeper end in terms of price point, but the cod was flaky and the cucumber pico de gallo was a nice contrast to the fried fish The space was very beautiful inside and service was friendly and attentive, our server had detailed recommendations. Great addition to Solana Beach!

HAPPY HOUR ALERT! BARGAIN ALERT! AWESOME HEATED PATIO ALERT! I'd seen that this place opened in Solana Beach and wasn't sure if I should try it. A friend wanted to meet for Happy Hour - and it looked like there were some fabulous bargains here, so that gave us a great opportunity to try it out. Can someone say... very delicious and very inexpensive? Happy hour is Tues-Fri 4-6. We showed up T at 4 pm and had the patio to ourselves. The heaters work great! Easy parking too on the street in front. Grace was our server. The Happy Hour menu is not listed on their website, but you'll find pictures of it here on Yelp under menus. COCKTAILS: Any of their cocktails are $10 at happy hour, v $14-16 regularly. I got the OAXACA OLD FASHIONED: Reposado tequila, mezcal, Nixta, xocolatl mole bitters, angostura, agave. Very refined and super delicious. Strong and sippable too! My friend got the CLASSIC MARGARITA and was very happy with it. APPS: We each got a FISH TACO ($3 each - a bargain for a posh place in SB) - and we shared the MEZZE PLATTER, $12 and very yummy. It comes with pita *and* with vegetables you can dip instead, and three dips: muhammara, tzatziki, and roasted red pepper and feta. They were all good, but I was crazy for the muhammara - just the right balance of bell peppers and walnuts. Yum! Folks, this happy hour cannot be beat. We had a perfectly good dinner this way, at bargain prices, on a cool terrasse. Check it out - and thank you Grace and everyone else who came to fill water or turn the heater up or down (they're strong and great for winter!!).

Super bummed about our first experience here last night.Been wanting to try this place since it opened but unfortunately won't be back. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, drinks were good, food was terrible. We started with oysters which were okay nothing special. We got the hamachi crudo next and it was def not worth the price. The pieces of hamachi looked like they were cut with a dull knife, orange sauce it came with tasted like nothing and even the mango salsa it came with lacked in flavor too. For our main we got the white fish (forgot the name) with fava beans. Really awful. Beans were lukewarm and fish was cooked to hell, so dry! Had to send it back, def was not paying almost $40 for that. Manager was nice enough to comp it from our bill and did offer something else but at that point we were ready to just go somewhere else.

Visited Mia's on a busy Friday night and were seated outside. The restaurant was lively, and Jojo, our server, was wonderful. We started with the octopus, scallops, and ceviche, followed by the skirt steak, lamb, mushroom salad, and Aleppo chicken, and finished with the olive oil cake and rice pudding. The octopus was tender, flavorful, and well cooked. The scallops were beautiful and nicely done with bright acidity. The ceviche, however, lacked seasoning and fell a bit flat. The mains were underwhelming overall. The rack of lamb, ordered medium, was chewy, the Aleppo chicken was dry, and the mushroom dish was overpowered by heavy sauce. The skirt steak was decent but not memorable. Dessert didn't redeem the meal, the olive oil cake was dense, and the rice pudding had some undercooked grains. There's potential here, and I'll be curious to see how the menu and execution evolve over time.

Yum!! Great addition to Solana! This menu has great variety, and the happy hour can't be beat. Absolutely loved the tostadas, empanadas, and lamb. Can't wait to come back and try more!!

Whether it's a business dinner, a friend visiting, happy hour, date night, or simply stopping in for a nightcap, they always deliver. It's such a warm and welcoming place. Huge kudos to their entire team, who never cease to amaze me with how genuinely great they are at hospitality. We've dined here 20+ times, and not once have we questioned the service. When we bring guests, they make us feel so proud to have such a gem right in our neighborhood. And don't even get me started on the food. Of course, the steaks are fantastic, but their appetizers and other entrées are just as worthy of attention. We've tried pretty much every non-steak item on the menu, and we've never been disappointed. The lobster is a particular favorite of ours--so fresh, juicy, and perfectly cooked. I love that they even shell it for us and put it back together, making it so much easier to enjoy without the mess. Our usual favorites are the hamachi crudo, Parker rolls, lobster, and truffle creamed spinach. Those are the dishes we find ourselves ordering again and again. And the bartenders deserve a special shoutout too. They're always so polite, friendly, and welcoming. We actually love sitting at the bar--not only for the food and drinks, but for the people-watching and the occasional conversation with the bartenders. It adds another layer to the whole experience. After 20+ visits, I think that says something. There are plenty of great restaurants, but the ones that make you feel like a regular, take care of your guests, and consistently make you want to come back are truly special. Rare Society is one of those places. We're pretty lucky to have this gem in our neighborhood.

We did nicely request a table inside which we got, but were told the happy hour menu was not available to us. Restaurant at 5pm was nearly empty. Positive: Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and was patient as we took a bit to decide what to have. Negative: There was a lot of "have you decided yet?" returns. Clearly he'd wanted to turn the table. Positive: The food was very well prepared. Filet mignon was tender and flavorful (though I doubt it was a full portion and two of us had to share it). Negative: Everything is à la carte, and mains - like our steak - were served on completely bare plates. Not even a garnish for presentation. Lamb chop "lollipops" served in a bowl. Just tacky. The side of creamed spinach was more cream than spinach, and for a side billed as a sharing portion it was small. Positive: Once our meal started we were not rushed. Atmosphere is a bit dark but fine for this kind of steakhouse. The crème brûlée was lovely... Sorry, no desire to return to this pricey spot.

We got there just before the 6 PM cutoff, and our server was kind enough to still honor the happy hour pricing for us, which was much appreciated. They have a solid happy hour menu with $2 off draft beers, $6 tequila and Fireball shots, $9 wines, and taco specials for around $7-8. We ended up trying the tacos, but they were honestly pretty average and nothing particularly memorable. The ambiance was nice, and it's always enjoyable spending time in the Solana Beach area near Fletcher Cove. Parking was easy with a dedicated lot, and the drinks were solid. Overall, a good place to grab a drink during happy hour and hang out with friends. The food didn't really stand out, but the friendly service, decent drinks, and relaxed atmosphere made for a pleasant evening.

The inside dining room and bar is cozy and decorated with posters from musical acts. Tavern is popular before shows and we go early on weeknights to beat the crowds and enjoy the food. The menu is reasonably priced. The tasty pan seared lemon and butter scallops on linguine was $29. The lobster tacos are $28, with the lobster chunks in a bowl with a subtle tomato sauce, and choice of torillas, with Spanish rice and black beans. Tavern has a full bar and a short but excellent wine list, reasonably priced, and mostly from California. Wines by the glass start at $11 and go to $14. A bottle of William Hill, Central Coast, Chardonnay, wsa $42 and the Rombauer Carneos, $65. Corkage is $25. Most cocktails are $15. It has local beers on draft and in the cans. Service is always fast and friendly. They check regularly for water refills, and any thoughts on the meal. We enjoy the casual, neighborly feel to the Tavern. A California beach town classic.

Our server was fine and friendly. The food came out quickly. We had the chips and salsa (excellent). I asked for a non spicy salsa and my friends wanted spicy so they brought some of each. We split the the Heart of Palm Ceviche! So amazing and it was big with a beautiful presentation. Just delicious. I could have eaten that alone with no other items. It was a vegan Ceviche and the fish was not missed. My friends ordered really cool cocktails and raved about them. My one friend said that this is the only place she can get this particular cocktail and that she comes here just for it. I ordered 2 tacos (Mr. Asparagus and the Baja fish taco). Both delicious and they came with housemade potato chips (which I thought was weird until I tasted them). I was so full but I couldn't not eat the chips because they were so good. One friend ordered the Quesabirria and she didn't love it. It was very strange as it was wrapped in fried cheese. They also ordered the other tacos and loved them. The only one that didn't get a thumbs up was the Quesabirria. I am looking forward to introducing this restaurant to other friends. So good!

Honestly, 9/10 for a veggie taco because the filling was well seasoned and dressed. The asparagus taco was unfortunately a different story. The asparagus was prepared well, crunchy on the outside but still tender when you bite into it. However, it was not seasoned as well and paled in comparison to the Yogi. The shrimp taco was okay. I think they were very heavy handed with the toppings and dressings and did little in terms of the actual preparation of the shrimp. The chicken taco on the other hand was DELICIOUS. The meat was seasoned well and so juicy. The pineapple salsa was the perfect touch!
