They pick the people up all around England and ship them up to this, and other hotels, for a few days and have day trips around the highlands. Every night they have live entertainment for the patrons and there is a dance floor for a little waltz. The customers are mostly retired and enjoy all the oldies and traditional music. The whole hotel is very well kept and there are no lingering smells anywhere. The seats in the lounge are all leather topped. The windows of the long lounge look over the loch and the beautiful mountains behind. I'm sure that the bedrooms on the upper levels get a much better view over the tops of the shops on the other side of the road. The place is about fifty miles away from Glasgow and even if you were just passing through Arrochar, it would be a comfy wee stopping point for a break.

There is also a nice beer garden that overlooks the Loch Fyne waters. The room was quite shockingly very expensive, I assume this is because of how touristy this town is. The beds are comfy but the pillows are horrible! Large overstuffed uncomfortable pillows that hurt your neck. Plus the room was freakin HOT like a sauna. Minus one star for the above plus there is no accessibility for disabled people. All stairs. I struggled to carry my luggage up the winding staircase. I do get it that the building is old and a heritage building so elevators maybe aren't an option. The restaurant was excellent. We enjoyed a good dinner. The pan seared cod fillet is very good. My husband enjoyed the steak pie. We shared the mussels and mmm mm! The Argyll Bar was an excellent way to wind down our day. Mike the bartender was very personable and we enjoyed chatting with him. The lounge bar staff were very friendly. The Sauvignon blanc was very dry and crisp. We enjoyed our drinks in the beer garden til our dinner reservations. Overall a good place to stay just be prepared to spend a lot of money.

If you can, stay in the Beach Hose rooms - located a short walk from the main hotel. They are on the banks of Loch Lomond itself with great views. Large size suites with all mod cons and fairly well furnished. The restaurant / bar in the main hotel is called Mr C's Fish and Whisky bar. 200 odd whiskies, usual beers and lagers, plus lots of fresh fish. It was awarded AA pub of the year for Scotland 2009 - 2010. I spoilt my time there by eating deep fried haggis in batter - gave me full-on food poisining for a week! Not a pleasant experience. Avoid this and stick to the fish / meat and you should be OK. Overall I wont downgrade it too much as a result of this, because of its great location and loads of good hikes around the area.

The hotel has recently been refurbished and looks fantastic. The food was superb. We had fish and chips, calamari and chowder, all very good. Unfortunately they had run out of oysters and langoustine which was disappointing. But never mind, the food was excellent. They also had a really well stocked bar with real ale and a great selection of whisky. The bar man seemed very knowledgeable about the whisky too which is great. The room was nice, the only problem was that we had no heating for the whole night. It was a very cold night and we were freezing. However, I mentioned this to the manager and he was fantastic at sorting it out and asked us to come back to the hotel another night. So all in all, I was very satisfied with our stay. Very romantic and relaxing. Definitely worth a visit if you're looking for somewhere to stay in Loch Lomond.

Yes, you have to schlep your luggage up the stairs, but this is an old, historic building. The front desk gal was so friendly and efficient. There is a lounge/bar area with musical instruments, games, books, television, and of course, alcohol. It seemed like the other bar patrons were locals (and regulars). We played guitar and accordion and Jenga. The next morning, we enjoyed breakfast in the hotel before embarking on a wonderful day of food and sites. We're fans of Oban and the Kelvin!

Our room was very clean and comfortable with a nice modern shower, though possibly not as nice as others because we had a dog friendly option. It had a lovely little conservatory and access to the garden but was a bit noisy as the people upstairs were banging about late at night and all morning. The gourmet taster menu that is presented each night is absolutely wonderful. Full of innovative dishes, the menu makes great use of local produce and things the chef has foraged from the gardens. The venison was very tender and the duck we had amazing. Dessert was also a hit for us too and while the portions are small they were just right to enjoy the different food and courses without feeling too full. I dont think I would want to have a £50 tasting menu everynight though and there is no other option on offer hence we just stayed the one night. The service was some of the best I have experienced in the restaurant. Fingers crossed you wont be on a table behind two old half deaf people like we were as it was very hard to enjoy your meal with the booming voices next to you for three hours discussing the good old days - nightmare. Its maybe a bit pricey and could do with offering other options for food in my opinion but was lovely for a night. The only other negative was that the gardens gave the impression of having been beglected despite the fact we are coming out of winter it needs a good bit of work. Yes I was, and still, there was a certain fascination about the mystic and Gothic aspect of the building style embedded in a very remote area without cars, masses of people nor the everyday conveniences that you might be used to. It was late in the evening during spring time and we wanted to get to the hotel as soon as we could. On the road to Oban we finally detected a road sign pointing us towards Ardanaiseig Hotel. The road became more narrow and at one point a single track only. No street lights and only the occasional car that followed and tried to overtake us in the most remote area you can imagine?!? The views towards the hills and lochs were breath taking. No noise, nothing. Just the sound of the wind, fresh air and grazing highland animals. Finally (and I say finally with such a relieve :-) ) we arrived at the hotel - all in one piece with a shimmer of daylight left. It had started raining, but it did not hold us back to have a quick walk around the hotel before the withdrawal to the library for a wee bedtime drink and chat with other hotel quests infront of an open burning fire. On arrival we were greeted by the concierge and guided into the 1900's style entrance hall. Our bedroom was located on the ground floor and had a little conservatory attached to it, which came in handy when we wanted to leave our room undetected. Even our room had a view towards the driveway, it also let us view the front side of the hotel, which was just spectacular. You were able to reserve a table for dinner and for breakfast you turned up taking any seat possible. We aimed for the window view- as you do :-). The drawing room held a piano and people were able to play and show off their talent. Next morning we walked around the gardens and along Loch Awe and admired the views towards the Loch, as well as the peaceful surroundings. Its an ideal place for couples and people or groups who are aiming for a very relaxing weekend. I don't think that there is any spa nor fitness club, but why would you need this with all the surrounding countryside you an explore. The amount of rooms are limited - maybe 15, each are individually decorated. Even some rooms might be a bit in need of updating, all the main functionalities worked perfectly well. Our shower was just amazing - large and powerful. There is ample of parking and the personell is very friendly. This place is not cheap (a large wine glass £9), but definitely worth a stay!

The hotel is small with a casual and friendly atmosphere. The rooms were clean and everything was in good working order. The food and drink were great, and the view of the moor from the common areas of the hotel is stunning. First, this is not a 5-star hotel in the meaning of the sort of accommodations and services that you expect to get at a Four Seasons hotel. It is a five-star hotel in that it is exactly as advertised and our experience was outstanding. Second, my statement about being back on the grid was made because there is no cellular service at or nearby the hotel and the hotel does not offer Internet service. This is by design (at least not offering Internet service). The point of not offering it is to have guests that are "off the grid." I think it really did make a huge difference in our experience (although, I must admit to serious withdrawal the first day). We hiked. We fished. We talked. We read. We did puzzles. We did not text, read email, or surf the web. Note: the hotel does have telephone and Internet services. I'm sure that you can use either of them in case of an emergency there or back at home. The atmosphere was very laid back...but the services provided by the hosts (Scott and Steph) and their friendly staff were outstanding. They didn't provide the phony kind of fawning service that you typically see at high-priced hotels and resorts; they offered a more friendly and sincere service that struck me as being very Scottish. (That said with all of one week visiting Scotland, so take it as you may...but I think I'm right.) We spent the morning (after a nice breakfast in the dining room), out on the moor. The other couples there also left right after breakfast to hike. As people finished their outdoor activities, they came back into the hotel. My wife and I came in freshened up, had a wee dram, and just sat in the "living room" in comfortable chairs reading and doing puzzles...along with a short break from reading and puzzle working for a nap. The other guests joined us after they returned from their hikes and freshening up (and perhaps taking a nap.) The dinners were good. There were three options for starters, three options for the main course, and three options for dessert. The wine list included wines by the glass as well as bottles. It's a very decent wine list for such as small establishment. The food was good - every dish that we tried! Steph does most of the cooking. She made a leg of duck that was superb. It was the first time I ever truly liked duck. We really appreciated the variety of the dishes as well as the interesting combinations. They were presented well and the portions were ample. We certainly didn't leave any lighter from our stay. After dinner, the evenings were filled with pleasant conversations with the other guests while drinking coffees (they have a commercial espresso machine just like what you find in coffee shops) and gin cocktails as well as some whisky tasting from a very nice selection for such a small place. Scott has an impressive knowledge of the local area, gin, whisky, and a large range of subjects. He served the drinks and filled us in on local lore, gin, whisky, and a number of topics. It was quite fun! Breakfasts were good. There is a small buffet with cereals, breads for toasting, etc. Other typical breakfast fare could be ordered. As with the dinners, the guests talked with each other during breakfasts sharing plans, etc. It was very pleasant. This is a kid and dog friendly place. A young couple had their 18-month-old tot with them. The other couple who was there had a very well behaved Golden Retriever. I think having the tot and the dog made the experience better. It made it homier to my wife and me. The bottom line: If you're interested in getting off of the grid and "out there," exploring Rannoch Moor, and meeting interesting people all the while not straying from the comforts of a good bed, good food, and a clean, comfy place to relax, this is your ticket! We came across this hotel after getting off the extremely short ferry trip from Rhubodach (the…read morenorthern end of Bute) which literally takes two minutes and covers about 400 metres. You could swim it! Take a right when you get off the ferry and only a couple of hundred metres away you find this lovely hotel on the road which doesn't go anywhere else. Inside you'll find lovely old-school interior (it made me think of Babbity Bowster in Merchant City) and a very warm welcome. There's a big blackboard which has the food menu on it, assuring you that their food is fresh and local. They serve bottled beers from Fyne Ales and have a Fyne Ales beer on tap too - lovely stuff and not super expensive either. It's really doggie friendly too, with the owner coming out with her labrador to play with our Luna, then kindly opening the gate to the garden so they could play together safe from the road... not that many cars pass the place anyway! On a nice day you can see for miles down the Kyles of Bute in a wonderful setting.
