Q-Park - The way in from Greenside Row

With the entrance located in an alleyway down the side of an office block, it is not the easiest car park to navigate. There are no signs pointing you toward it and you will have to do a lot of circling round. It is never really that busy, but all the spaces on the upper levels (closer to the street) seem to be taken every time we come in, forcing us to go down deeper into the bowels of this dungeon to find a space. On the very bottom level (-4) you will always find a space since not many people seem to use this car park. Try and get near the lifts if you can as the car park goes on for miles and you could easily get lost. The lifts in the top left hand corner take you to the footbridge that leads to John Lewis, the middle lifts bring you out at Leith Street and the furthest away lifts take you to the back of the Omni Centre. Once you get to the surface, you will need to hold your token against the sensor for 5 seconds in order to unlock the door to get out. Sometimes the sensor is broken and the door will be left open but it honestly feels safer with the door locked, as no dodgy people can get in. The car park is really creepy though because of how deserted it always is and I always feel quite spooked out every time we have to walk through it. The layout is better than the NCP across the street and is more logical to navigate, whereas in St James, you will be stuck on a floor if there are no spaces and a car comes up because of the badly designed two way system and narrow roads. But apart from the spookiness, the confusing lift arrangement and the prices, it is a safe place to park and you won't have to worry about your car while you are shopping.

When I bought a new flat that came with a parking spot, I looked around for different ways to turn my spot into a mini-business by renting it out since I don't have a car and therefore can't use the spot myself. ParkatmyHouse was super easy to set up my parking spot for free online, choose how much I want to rent it out for (by hour, day, week or month), and upload photos and a description of how to find it. It is also really easy for those who need parking spaces. This ranges from locals who need spots in different areas of town for a few hours or out-of-towners who are looking to stay a few days, or those looking for long-term parking. They just search by location, price, or online rating to find a parking spot, spare driveway, or garage space that's convenient to them, and then they can book online. The site is fantastic in making connections between individuals that never would have been forged before. I've really enjoyed hearing from various visitors who ask me about my spot and how far it is from different places around Edinburgh, or who tell me how convenient the spot was for their race at Holyrood Park, their trip to the Parliament or their week-long holiday with their wife to celebrate her 40th birthday. It's really fun hearing these stories of the individuals who come and go from the spot, and I'm really happy it's going to good use and making people's lives easier to be able to find and book safe parking spots for their time in Edinburgh. Of course being paid for renting out the spot is always a bonus, too, and ParkatmyHouse makes it so easy to set and change prices for the spot, and to transfer the money into my bank account after people come to stay! This has been a brilliant local and international business to use, and I think it really helps people on both sides who want to rent or rent out a parking spot. The site is quite fun to use and makes life easier for locals and visitors alike.

It offers some of the city's larger shops, hosting the likes of Debenhams, Primark, New Look and Topshop. Half of the mall is really bright and airy as there are windows running down the entire wall. It kinda reminded me of an airport (but nicer, of course). There is parking but we didn't use it. From what I've heard it is pretty expensive. We used Gellatly Street which was £8 for 24 hours. Considering the Overgate charges something similar to this for 5 hours and closes overnight, it looks like we made the right call to go somewhere else. The public toilets in the mall are clean and well serviced so we're all good there. I would definitely recommend coming here instead of the Wellgate - the Wellgate is a horrible, dark dungeon.

It may be because it is a brand new shopping centre and therefore lacks some of what makes the Wellgate so good but whatever it is there is just something missing from the whole experience of shopping here. That said it does have some wonderful shops such as Sports world, Gap and baby Gap, The Gadget shop, Debenhams and the amazing Lush shop which sells all the wild and wacky soaps and lotions and potions you could imagine. You can smell the wondeful scents coming from the Lush store throughout the building and they are rivalled only by the aroma from the Starbucks coffee shop on the same floor. If you are in Dundee then you must visit here as well as the Wellgate, they both have something different to offer.

Indeed, it does. However, sometimes in order to get to these funky happening places you need to park your car. Being a mainly public transport or walking type of girl, this is something which ordinarily doesn't occur to me. Yet, on entering a course last week I was shocked that when someone asked me about the nearest car park I really had to think about it. Furthermore, I could not for the life of me explain where it was (I am truly terrible at giving directions). And so, I decided this was a necessary review. This car park is fairly big (in West End standards) and is located just behind the Marks and Spencers off of Byres Road and Ashton Lane. From this, you'll realise how handy it is for the buzz of Byres Road and 'The Lane'. It's a Glagsow City Council Car Park so prices are average (I think) andit's very cheap for an all day ticket on Sundays. Perfect, for a spot of West End Sunday shopping and eating. Meanwhile, it tends to be quieter than the other car park which is more easily noticeable from Byres Road so there's always a good chance that you'll find a space or that one will quickly become available.

That was, until my drive shaft snapped and my car rolled down the hill into a pole. Now I kind of have the fear about parking here. So try there first!

The only thing worth visiting is TK Maxx which occasionally gets some reasonable brands in such as Moschino or Michael Kors but nothing like the Edinburgh or Newcastle store which gets Versace and Balenciaga. It also has an odd, old, musty smell to the place and is home to one of the worst car parks in the world. Parking costs around £5 and i can only describe the place as a ghost town. Most shops are shut down or just junk shops. Even McDonald's shut down as there was no custom. Save your money and drive to Edinburgh or Glasgow. Also home to Fifes worst gym.
