We purchased a brand-new Axis A225 built to order. The day we picked it up, it was overcast and raining, making it difficult to thoroughly inspect the boat. Had we been able to see it clearly, we would not have accepted delivery. The cosmetic issues were extensive. The gel coat had significant imperfections and metallic overspray throughout the boat. The passenger-side seat backrest was visibly uneven and wavy. There were scratches, cracks in the Surf Gate caused by overtightened screws (which were never properly repaired), and the boat arrived with the wrong swim platform. We paid for upgrades that were either missing or incorrectly installed, including the Power Wedge, which had to be replaced because it was damaged during installation. Getting these issues addressed was an uphill battle. We were repeatedly dismissed and treated as though our concerns were unreasonable. At one point, a technician asked my husband, "Is this your first boat?" My husband was raised on a marina, and we've owned multiple boats. We know the difference between normal imperfections and unacceptable workmanship. Throughout the following season, the shaft seal leaked continuously, causing the bilge pumps to cycle regularly. Before the next season, we brought the boat to Chessie for service. We later learned the boat was never actually serviced. Some recall work was completed, but the scheduled service was not performed. The result was a terrifying experience on the water. While cruising on the river, alarms started sounding and every bilge pump activated. The boat was rapidly taking on water in over 150 feet of water while simultaneously overheating. Smoke was coming from the engine compartment, and I genuinely believed the boat was on fire. I called 911 because we thought we were going to sink. My husband ended up jumping into the water and helping get the boat to shore. I was taken home by the fire department while he waited for Sea Tow as a storm approached. We later learned the sea strainer had come completely loose and the shaft seal had failed again. Had the boat actually been serviced, these issues likely would have been identified before they nearly caused the boat to sink. Now we're dealing with another issue: a Wedge Drag Alarm. My husband followed every troubleshooting step provided by Chessie and was told to call back. After four follow-up calls, no one responded. Unfortunately, this lack of customer service has been consistent. When we were ready to place our order and bring a $40,000 deposit, we drove more than two hours to the dealership only to discover our appointment had effectively been forgotten because the salesperson was at a golf tournament. We spent approximately $150,000 on this boat. Instead of enjoying it, we've spent years dealing with manufacturing defects, installation errors, warranty repairs, service issues, safety concerns, and long periods without the boat. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend either Axis or Chessie Marine.

Quaint little marina just upstream of the Conowingo Dam on the Susquehanna River…read more Launch area used to be only for short boats (15 feet or shorter) but the owner has expanded the turnaround on the launch area. Can now launch up to 26-footer. There have been upgrades done on the slips/dock & restroom facilities. So much nicer now than the last time we launch our work boat here 2 years ago. There's a nice creek that runs along the property and they have made camping and picnic areas along it. Definitely a plus since the creek has a little waterfalls as it flows down to the river and I love the soothing sound of falling water :) Will definitely be continuing to use this Marina when working in the area. Owner is friendly, accommodating and has more upgrades planned for the future.

She followed up with me many times to schedule time to come in the store and pick out my gear. She spent time explaining different BCD and regulator options, which I appreciated. Based on that experience, I purchased all my dive equipment. I had to pay for the equipment and wait for the items to come in. After a few attempts to pick up my equipment, she told me to come to the store but did not receive my BCD or weights (over $1k paid for these). She told me that the UPS tracking stated the equipment would be there that day, and would call me to come back if they came in. I did not hear from Kelly for months.... I spent over 4-months attempting to obtain my items (calls to store, cellphone, emails, texts). I sent one final email before my last resort of filing a dispute with my credit card, stating I would give Kelly until a certain date to fulfill my order. She responded to that email, with the same excuse I have read in other reviews, that she was calling the incorrect number and getting the run around from the company she ordered the equipment from. I repeated my request for the refund, gave her to the date stated, and then filed the dispute. The final straw for me was, to my shock, her first response to the card dispute stated my claim was "invalid as the merchant has attempted to fulfill goods/services." At the end, the dispute did end in my favor, thankfully. I will never order anything from this store again; it was an absolute horrible experience.

Because these reviews are old, they are not taken into account on their overall rating. I did not take any classes with Blue Horizon (yet) but I can speak to Kelly's professionalism and willingness to take time out of her day to discuss my investment in my first regulator and BCD. After our lengthy 40-50 minute conversation, she sent me an e-mail with several gear options at different price points, taking into account everything we discussed in terms of what kind of diving I would like to do and weighing that with the research I'd already done. The shop specializes in ScubaPro, but Kelly was knowledgeable about Xdeep (my other top contender) and helped me price out what that BCD setup might look like. She even lent me her partner's BCD to test in the pool, So I could make sure it's what I really wanted. The rental tank and regulator set that she lent me was well maintained, clean, and functioned and breathed perfectly - A testament to the equipment being well taken care of, which is never a given with any dive center. So far, I am very happy with the solution Kelly and me settled on. She made sure it was delivered prior to a trip I had planned to Cozumel, and I've taken two dive trips with my new equipment. I love it! so much better than the rental equipment I struggled with prior. I got the chance to meet some of the folks who dive with Blue Horizon afterward, all of whom are lovely people who are becoming new dive buddies and friends. A great business run by great people and a lovely dive community!
