Our first time visiting Oslo. Heard great things about this restaurant. Even though we had no reservations we were sat immediately. My sister had the salmon special and I had the shrimp sandwich. Both meals were excellent. I was full so wanted to take my leftovers to the hotel. I was told they do not allow any food leaving. I thought it might be a law so I checked and what I found was there is no law in Oslo preventing anyone from taking there leftovers. In fact I was told if you paid for the meal you have a right to bring it home. So that is my displeasure with this restaurant. read more

The restaurant is on the water and has a very nice decor. The service was very good and the food was delicious! We had the fish soup which was filled with seafood, the oysters (which tasted great, but they didn't have horseradish or cocktail sauce which are standard in the states), the crab schnitzel which was also delicious. One of our friends had the lobster but he thought it was okay (a lot of work). Overall, a good experience but be prepared to pay a hefty price for our meal/drinks! read more

We came here for a very late lunch since we woke up so late from being jet lagged, but I'm glad they were still serving lunch! I believe it's until 1530. They have a separate lunch menu. I ordered the pot of mussels which was massive!!! I mean, it was def a pot for 2 but I ate most of it by myself. They serve you bread and butter at the beginning so once I got past all the mussels, I took my bread and dipped it in the sauce. Hubby got the 2 course lunch meal which included a halibut carpaccio and the fish special of the day which was monkfish. My hubby said the halibut was one of the best he's ever had. I tried the monkfish and it was very good, local to the region, and is a good meaty white fish. Diced beets were garnished on top, along with roasted potatoes. Overall, an excellent dish. One of our better restaurant experiences in Oslo, located along the harbor past the fort and nearly all the way around the harbor. The tram line runs by the area, near the end of the line and you walk past many restaurants until you hie Lofoten. We were lucky to get in without reservations, but suggest your hotel make a reservation for you as this area is mobbed with people. Classy interior, open with lots of glass facing the promenade and water. We were in a glassed area so it was bright, rather than romantically dim. Excellent menu. Lots of wines and service is excellent. Food is dramatically and artfully presented. We enjoyed watching the plates pass by. We did have a problem getting a non-seafood meal for my wife, but the server went over items on the menu that could be made without seafood and she and my wife came up with a dish that she liked. Thank you chef for making the effort...very much appreciated. Plenty of wonderful desserts, especially in the no sunsets summer, with all the berries and fruits in abundance. You could just come to Lofoten for wine and desserts. If you are a tourist, we recommend this as an easy place to have a good meal in the harbor area without having to mortgage your home to pay for it. read more

Great location and they gave us a really nice table, front row the people walking by and with doors that opened up to feel the cool breeze. The fish we both got was local Cod, one w octopus ink pasta and one as the Chef's special. They were good (except for 3-4 bones in the Chef's special that startled me!) but I'd have to say "over priced" for what you got. That said, if you know going in that the prices will be higher than other spots and there won't be many fish items to choose from, go for the vibe and enjoy the location and good service! (I was going to give it a 3 Star review, but why penalize the restaurant when the menu is what it is, and with that fine location they can get away w charging more, so 4 Stars it is!) read more

Delicious find, everything was closed on a Sunday and everything was fresh and tasty, it's a very small and cozy restaurant with a small store within the restaurant. The service was a little slow in the beginning but got better. The restaurant was packed, but we were able to get a table after a 10 min wait. I would definitely come back again! read more

We had a wonderful lunch at Lofoten. It was a beautiful day and although we didn't have reservations (which are highly recommended) we were able to secure a lovely table. The maitre'd was very gracious to us. We ordered the daily special of calamari (husband's choice) and a huge tub of the most delicious mussels- every one was plump and delicate. We each enjoyed a glass of Chablis and it was a delightful experience. The only negative comment we have was when we observed our waitress consolidating Chablis from a number of bottles into one bottle which of course is a huge no no. Management should be made aware of this and forbid this practice. read more

I walked by this restaurant several times and looked in the window. I've never die in here. Looks like it's a clean, nice place probably a little pricey being that it's on the waterfront in a major walk by pedestrian tourist area. Lofoten Fiskerestaurant offers haute Norwegian seafood. The food in and of itself is a unique and worthwhile experience. That being said the service at Lofoten is quite poor. Go for the food, but manage your expectations on the service. I've been to Lofoten on a number of occasions. Their seafood is perhaps the best of had anywhere, certainly the best in Norway. Their fish plates are particularly delicious. On my most recent two visits I had Arctic Char and Cod, both were refined and delectable. The fish soup is a must have, it's a dish that Lofoten is particularly known for in Oslo. As previously mentioned, the service at Lofoten leaves much to be desired. My last two experiences left me with a particularly bad taste. I was in Oslo to attend a conference and so I organized a dinner with my colleagues. I made a reservation and we took a group of 18. Lofoten was happy to accommodate such a large reservation. However, when it came time to pay the bill, we were informed the restaurant would only split our tab 3 ways per table. This created an hour long fiasco of figuring out how to split the tab. Keep in mind, in Norway it is standard for restaurants to always accommodate individual bills. I have never had a Norwegian restaurant limit how many ways a bill could be split. Even my Norwegian colleagues were incensed by this demand from the staff, especially considering they made our group order from a menu with reduced options. To add insult to injury, the staff was clearly annoyed that a group of 18 took an hour to divvy up the bill. Then came my second bad experience. I decided to forgive the flap about the bill splitting and went to lunch with a friend before leaving town. It was a weekday at lunch and so the restaurant was not busy. We ordered 3 course meals and some drinks. The first issue came when our server ignored our table for a solid 90 minutes. My friend was annoyed by this and so she went to the Maitre d' to remind them that we were still there and that we hadn't been served our dessert. Once we were served dessert, my friend and I continued to catch up over drinks and coffee and enjoy each other's company. The dinner hour then began and our server approached our table and asked to move us to the bar. My friend and I were appalled by this request. Together we had spent over $200, we had not finished our drinks, we were sitting quietly, the restaurant was not particularly busy, and there was plenty of table space. Moreover, this request came after our server had ignored our table for 90 minutes. We promptly finished our drinks and left in response. The setting of Lofoten is modern and classy. The glass patio of the restaurant offers beautiful views of the Oslo Fjord and the Akershus Festning. The food at Lofoten is world class. I wouldn't hesitate to rate Lofoten a 5-star restaurant were it not for their service. The food is so good that if you're craving authentic and delectable Norwegian seafood you must try it. But don't expect to be treated with the respect of a 5-star restaurant. read more

My first trip Norway - Oslo. I don't know what's good here and have no idea on how expensive things are..... I wish I had more money on hand when I came to this country. Anyway, shall we start talking about the food now! Lofoten, this place was recommend by one of my friend who lives in Oslo for quite a long long time now. She came to this place several time and always enjoy the cuisine here. When we first walked into the restaurant, the waiter asked if we would like to sit inside the restaurant or outside. Of course we said outside, so we can enjoy the awesome view by the port! Quite nice view to be honest. But as we received the menu, I dropped my jaw.... like to the floor. I couldn't imagine the price on the menu.... But if you considered the location and the food quality I guess I can justify the $$ for once in awhile. We ordered 2 fish entrees, 1 fish soup, and 1 pot of mussels and it cost us about ~$250 USD. Yes the food it's that expensive everywhere in Norway..... Please be prepared.... Fish Soup, To now day, I still have no idea what's in the soup and why the colour is green. Disregard the colour of the soup, the flavor itself it's amazing. The soup included the following ingredients, Salmon, white fish, and some scallop. You can taste every single flavor from the ingredients from the soup. It's truly beautiful. I would recommend to try this if you every visit this store Fish Entree The fish itself it's perfectly executed. It's not dried and still juicy and a tiny bit of salt to bring out the nature flavor of the fish. They didn't add too much seasoning to ruin the good nature flavor. Just used some salty to enhance the flavor. Pot of Mussels It's literally like 100+ mussels in this pot, i kid you not. But the best part it's not the mussel itself. It's the broth that's on the bottom of the pot. Fresh Mussel broth combined with white wine. Simply delicious! Overall, the flavors are great and we enjoyed the view. Yes, it's a bit on an expensive side. But please treat yourself once in awhile when you travel outside of the country and experience different things! Came into this restaurant upon a recommendation from the concierge at the Grand Oslo Hotel. It was a spot on recommendation for great seafood. Place is situated right on the water and is spacious even if the decor is a bit bland and mid level. Staff was super friendly and helpful, willing to spend time with you and answer questions about the menu and the food. I started off with a simple salad which was superb. Field greens and onions super fresh and flavorful. And the peas. Unbelievably sweet and crunchy, they must have been in season. Strangely there was no dressing but they quickly brought out some olive oil and I ground some pepper onto the dish which ended up being delicious. I think virtually all ingredients come from Norway. Main was a nice cod like fish pan fried with nice heavy greens in butter. Portion size perfect and the dish was not too heavy. Included were delicious pickled onions done in vinegar and sugar. Nice tart note to them. I had a nice chocolate parfait desert which was solid. Only downside was it was a dicey affair especially the wine by the glass(white Sancerre). Would repeat. read more

Eating here was a solid dining experience. We made the reservation the day-of a few hours before we went to the restaurant, but it was pretty empty. The lighting is very dim, and the atmosphere is intimate and classy. Our waitress was incredibly nice, and she presented each dish after she placed it on the table. If you get a window seat, you can also get a good view of the water outside. [FOOD] Bread: I feel like I have to comment on this. You get quite a lot of slices, and they give you a lemon olive oil that tastes so good. It was so good that I thought it was worth mentioning. Scallops Duo: The panfried scallop was nice and tender, cooked very well. The ceviche was a little tasteless. The scallops themselves were very fresh though. Fish'n Chips: GET THIS!! If my review was based solely on this dish, I would easily give 5 stars. This comes with a piece of grilled fish, a fried fish ball (not quite sure how to properly describe it...), two potato halves, and chipotle mayonnaise. The grilled fish (it might have been panfried) was cooked perfectly. The fish ball was just.. fried goodness; the outside was crisp breading, and the inside was soft fish. The potatoes were cooked well (these are the chips haha), and the mayonnaise was the perfect sauce to bring together all the components. If I came back to Oslo, I'd come here again solely for this dish. Panfried Cod: The fish was cooked well; parts of the fish broke off very easily, and the risotto was pretty good. Not amazing, but above average. Braised Lamb Shank: The portion for this dish is HUGE. This alone could fill me up. The meat is cooked well and is super tender (falls of the bone super easily). The mashed potatoes are buttery and amazing. The onions were super sweet. I'm not a huge fan of dates, so that addition didn't do much for me. Overall a solid dish though. Banana Cake: The cake itself reminded me of banana bread; I wish it had been more moist. The salted caramel drizzle and toffee ice cream were on point though. [OVERALL] The only reason why I don't want to give this restaurant 5 stars is because the price was definitely pretty high, and the food just wasn't that amazing (aside from the Fish'n Chips). The food is really good, but it hurts a little to spend so much money. The bill came out to 1450 NOK (~$170) for all these dishes and a beer. I would come back though, and I definitely recommend the restaurant for people visiting! read more

I came a couple hours earlier than my reservation as I was in the area enjoying the beautiful view of the harbour. The staff was very polite and accommodating. I decided to try their 3 course set menu of the day which offered their Gin Gravet Orrer (cured trout), Bouillabaise and Pannestekt Lange (panfried linge). Food wasn't bad. Luncheon menu is limited. Upon being seated we were told only one of six shellfish offerings was available. Had to wait what seemed an inordinate amount of time for our main course while others who arrived after were served first. Noticed a table of six who ordered the same as us didn't wait nearly as long. When I mentioned to the waitperson the chef certainly liked salt I was told Norwegians like their food salty. I didn't point out we are not tourists and Norwegians certainly do not like anything with any sort of spice. A pleasant spot for lunch on the boardwalk but not worth a second visit. The food was not good compared to restaurants that are not Michelin star restaurants. We ordered salmon and it was completely raw and had to be sent back. Delicious food and right on the harbor! This is a one Michelin star place, so it's going to be on the fancier side with higher costs. However, I thought that the two-course menu was a fantastic deal, especially for fish lovers. We ordered a two course as well as mussels and oysters. We started with the oysters (from France) and then the fish soup. This soup was absolutely delectable, frothy, green, and filled with fish (and a hearty portion at that). It had a great amount of acidity, which really made the dish very bright - I could probably have it for every meal, it was that good! We then had the mussels, similar to the moules frites dish popular from Belgium, and although it was a bit expensive, it is enough to fill two people with some bread (which, by the way, is so very delicious that you will ask for maybe one or two refills) on the side to sop up the soup. We then finished with the entree fish, which was actually our least favorite of the main fish dishes, but that's not to say it wasn't delicious! I loved that the restaurant doesn't require everyone to do the coursed menus, and you can add on a la charge options. After coming off the ferry from Bygdoy, freezing cold and soggy on a rainy summer day, Lofoten Fiske Restaurant looked appealing. Happily, despite having no reservation, they seated us quickly. I ordered the fish soup with a salad and my husband ordered the lobster gratinée. We were both delighted with our choices! The fish soup is a delicate basil flavored broth, with salmon, scallops and shrimp. Although I am sure the type of fish in the soup depends on the season, mine was filled with my favorites! And the gorgeous light green broth was just delectable. My husband's lobster was impeccably prepared. We had excellent service for the entire meal despite not having reservations! We were not seated next to the window - again, no reservations - but our view of the harbor was still pretty good. I did feel that the wine was poured a little bit skimpy - my sole complaint! It was not inexpensive, but worth every NOK! Highly recommended! read more

Nom nom nom!!! This may have been my favorite dining establishment on my one week trip in Norway. This place was recommended via the Lonely Planet book and it was not a disappointment. It is located towards the rear of the Aker Brygge area of Oslo. As you walk down the pier, you will pass a variety of restaurants and pubs which appeared to have far less desirable menus. Keep walking and you will stumble upon this place. We came for lunch one day during our visit in Oslo. The restaurant was relatively empty, I get the sense that this place is more popular at dinner. The three of us each ordered the same fish dish and we all left quite happy with our choices. It was a sunny and dare-I-say-it "warm" day by Oslo standards, so we sat in the solarium area. Luckily, the windows that face the street could slide, so we were able to open them in order to improve the air flow in the place. Prior to our meal arriving, some lovely bread with olives baked in it were placed at our table, along with olive oil for dipping. The fish arrived with a parsnip puree on the side, a few vegetables, and a relatively large-sized piece of fish (for lunch) that was perfectly cooked and in a red wine sauce. The meal was simply divine! Our service was attentive and quite friendly. I would whole-heartedly recommend this place to anyone. Per Jessica I's comments, it is not the cheapest meal out there. Perhaps visiting for lunch helps limit any concerns on price (but nothing is a steal in Norway), but given the quality of the meal it is completely worth it. read more

One of the best fish restaurants in which I have ever been. It´s right by the port and it has beautiful view on Akershus fortress. Enviroment is very comfortable, service is perfect and local chef is genious. I really miss living by the sea, because these are the moments when I realize how I miss well prepared fresh fish. Stopped in here with a friend after a review from fellow Yelpers. PHENOMENAL!!! We stopped by on 18 May about 4 pm ( early for us but we are on vacation mode and our time is a bit off). We were pleasantly and promptly greeted at the door and seated. Our server explained that the menu was shorter this evening but she explained the menu thoroughly. My friend and I opted for the 3 course prix fixe menu. We let our server ( I didn't get her name but she was adorable) choose a bottle of wine for us. We were seated and offered water ( still or mineral) and fresh bread and olive oil was served. I don't eat bread , it's a me thing so know that up front. Our dinner started with shrimp and onion lightly mixed in mayo topped with roe and dill served on top of a bit of frisée. There was a nice wedge of lemon and a small piece of toasted bread. Super yum! Next ( and main course) was baked salmon on top of 4 spears of perfectly cooked asparagus all drizzled with just the perfect amount of butter and a side of fingerling potatoes with a wedge of lemon. You have never had salmon until you've had Norwegian salmon!!!! This was like buttah!! It melted on my tongue and had just a tiny bit of crisp that may have been broiled at the last minute. Seriously, ya gotta try Norwegian salmon. The asparagus was perfect, neither under nor over cooked, it had just the right amount of snap when you bit into it. Truthfully, I did not eat the potatoes but that is because I try to stay away from starch and potatoes in general. My friend said they were delicious. Our wine was wonderful. Our server chose a white wine that was a perfect accompaniment to our dinner. I will post photos as I don't remember the name. Our dessert was a type of strawberry buckle. It was sort of like super scrumptious strawberry jam topped with homemade vanilla infused whipped cream topped with mint leaves and graham cracker crumbs sprinkled over the top. We were there for about 3 hours and chatted with our server and just relaxed. Our food was 550k and our wine was about 1100k but you must remember, this is Norway. It ain't cheap but you will have exquisite food and exceptional service. I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to you when you are in Oslo. I would come back again. I went here for a solo sunset dinner on the advice of a Norwegian friend and ended up having the best meal of my stay in Norway. I booked ahead and they thoughtfully reserved a table for me with a perfect view of the sunset. Service was exemplary (thank you to Teresa, my server, who made my night) and the food was sublime - a fish soup, pan-fried char, and delicious champagne with ginger. Total price came out to about $93 USD, which was fair for the quality and location and hey, it's Norway. An absolutely lovely experience, and I'll be sure to return next time I'm in Oslo. read more
