Now, it was certainly my own mistake for visiting on the Sunday two weeks before Christmas, but this place was an unorganized madhouse! There were probably way more people in the store than a fire marshal would allow. Products all over the floor, strewn about. And again, this is a brand new store... why design the store with seven checkout lanes if you're only going to have four open on one of the busiest shopping days? Gripes aside, it's a decent store with a slightly different selection than your average TJ Maxx and Marshall's. As we got away from the clothing/shoes/accessories, we found the home goods section to be in much better order. We picked up a few nice picture frames for less than $10 each, so I'd call that a win. They also had a great selection of auto accessories, surprisingly. The wait in line was about a half hour... very ridiculous. Anyway, they need more cashiers on duty to handle demand and also dedicated staff to keep stock off the floor.

However, the selection in this store doesn't represent the true Ross experience. There is not as many high quality brands that Ross usually sells at a deep discount. They do carry a lot of cheap, trendy clothing. There is not a wide variety of sizes for women. The designer handbag selection has never been great. They do occasionally have a great shoe selection. It is really hit or miss. The store is usually clean & organized. The prices are usually good if you can find a treasure. However, the next door neighbor, TJ Maxx, usually has a better selection. The Ross stores I have been to in the north are very different than the ones in the south. This isn't it. The buyers for this store are cheating you out of a great Ross experience.

American Eagle used to be an outdoors store so it makes sense that they are a great place to go for warm clothes. (PS I'm 30X30, pretty standard) During all this he snapped at some lady because she wasn't sure where the line was because people were all over the place. It truly reminded you of one of those downtown stores of the past that was very exclusive. You would never expect the prices of the merchandise to be so low. My only complaint is they didn't have any way to tell where the different departments were that I could tell but other than that I think it's an excellent addition to downtown and a great way to spur more stores to Woodward.

The same issue was on the way other side. There was all kinds of sales in the store. We saw a clearance section 2 for $12 shirts. Buy 2 get 1 free for regular clothing. Most of the store was buy 1 get 1 50% off. We saw a few other sales buy 1 get 1 free and 40%. So many Labor Day weekend sales, and other sales. This place always has some kind of sale going on. An issue I have is that I can never find shirts in my size. We saw 4 different Adventure Time shirts. We looked and they only had XL and up. It was really strange. We couldn't find any mediums, and rarely saw large for other shirts. We asked someone for help to see if they had more, and she said what's out is all they have in store. They change their shirts a lot, so maybe I can look online for it. I do love that they had a lot of Deadpool options. Sometimes their shirts are a bit pricey though.

The customer service rep working explained the concept of the store, asked me what size I normally wear, said "oh, we don't have much in THAT size." She half-heartedly looked a couple of things up and then literally turned her back on me mid-sentence and started talking to somebody else without even a "excuse me" or anything. I went home and looked at the website, and it turns out that Bonobos makes a TON of stuff in my size, and in fact has a whole section on their site devoted to bigger sizes. I'll give the company another shot, but definitely not the Detroit storefront...

I remember when urban wear and higher end designers began to be carried in the same stores. RAGS was one of the first stores to carry Moschino and Iceberg. I mean this is where you shopped when you were trying to really to get your dress on. They have gone to the trendier side of urban wear but you can still find some unique pieces here and there. When you go ask about the shipment dates. Sometimes they only get a few select pieces and you don't want to miss out!
