I must say, from the time I walked in the door, the library was clean, quiet, and I was greeted at the front door and direct to where I needed to go. My journey started because I am building my tree, in Ancestry, for The Laney Family that moved to the area in the 1700's. I knew who the first grandfather, 6th removed, was and that he arrived in Pennsylvania thru my direct grandfather who I had met, Zebulon Vance Laney. I planned on a trip and called the library and was directed to the voice mail of Ray Cossart who was the Genealogist. Ray called me back within 48 hours. He asked me to given him each of my ancestries with their dates of birth and death. I also mentioned other family members. My and now our goal was to be stories of each of the family members. We talked over the next 3 weeks before I left. I arrived early Saturday morning and Ray met me and proceeded to bring out folders, books, articles, so much data. I spent about 3 hours going thru and, after complying items I wanted to bring home, Ray downloaded on a thumb drive. I said goodbye as I went to Cemetaries, sites, including Kings Mountain. I told Ray I would be back on Monday so he sat documents to the side so I could review when I came back. Also, visited with my older cousin and shared what i have learned. I also went to Trinity Baptist Church, where many of my descendants were buried but The George Laney Family cemetery was the highlight. Monday morning, I met with Gypsy Houston, Genealogy & Local History Librarian. She was so patient and helpful with me as I was become overwhelmed. She told time out of her day to scan several documents for me and add to my thumb drive. Another 2 hours, You could see the love, passion, and the desire to help me on my journey. For me this is sometimes hard to find people who will take the time to help, in their busy day, and take the time to compile the information I needed. Warning, Gypsy and Ray, I am planning to return to visit you again in November, this will be more of a saying hello to my favorite Genealogist. As you can see, I am a raving fan.

The Union County Public Library system it's self leaves a lot to be desired because the locations…read moretend to be small and don't have a decent selection of books. However, the Union County Public Library in Monroe is one of the best in the area. It's no wonder it's one of the better ones because it's located in the county seat of Union County. This location offers a wide variety of books and movies to check out and they many computers if you don't have a computer at home or you need an internet connection. The front desk assistant is very helpful and went above and beyond what I expected in helping me find the book I was looking for. The look and feel of the Monroe Library is standard so nothing really stands out and yes it's very quiet. So if you need to work on a project or just relax away from the noise then this is a great spot. When you are ready to check out, there is no long lines because they have terminals where you can scan your books out and not waste unnecessary time. Also, if you have a membership, you can browse online for the books or movies you'd like to check out and have it put on hold or delivered from another library in their system to your home branch.

The staff was very courteous and the location was very nice and well stocked. They have tons of events for both kids and adults and a large selection of books and other media.

ImaginOn: The Joe & Joan Martin Center on Seventh Street downtown to name just three. Each has specialties that make them individuals. The South Park Regional had a fair collection of books and materials for the younger set, but really excelled at games and toys for engaging kids ... they even had a little cabin the kids could go in. The library itself was newish, clean and easy to get to, with available free parking ... although it is oftentimes full. Unlike some other libraries in the district, this one had more library things for kids to play with, but fewer library materials (books and puzzles). Still and all, nice library and recommended.

I occasionally stop in this library for early voting, but I had some time before dinner. I'd just…read morepassed an exam for work but needed to study right away for another exam. Libraries today aren't as quiet as they used to be, but I had plenty of space at my table to be comfortable with my book, notepad, pens, & highlighters. I actually enjoyed being in earshot of a teacher tutoring a student and giving the parent an update. Was very pleased to find the ladies restroom clean. Would definitely return here for study time, if necessary.

There's computers available to use as a guest or library member. There's plenty of empty tables for reading or bringing your own laptop. Theres options for closed quiet spaces and I'm sure reservations can be made for groups. Kid zones throughout. I didn't see the whole library but it was very active and well kept as it seemed libraries were on the decline. Not at this location.

It's so nice to see I'm not the only bookie out here lol. The parking was easy and organized. The book sale itself was packed but they had so many wonderful volunteers helping to steer the crowd, it was pretty seamless. They even had volunteers walking around asking if they could take your books and put them on a table to hold for you so you could keep shopping comfortably. it was great! The library has multiple stories and was very clean and quiet. I will absolutely be back soon!!

I also brought my children here for reading activities when they were young. They have always been accommodating and friendly. I didn't fully understand how blessed our county was to have this library until I began researching my family history. The local history and genealogy room is better than any other I have ever visited. I have visited many. The ladies over this room, Leslie and Denise, are very knowledgeable of local history and are more than willing to assist you in your family research. They work hard to find additional resources to help you break through brick walls that you encounter. They host events and bring in experts and guest speakers. They are simply amazing. The other library employees are eager to assist you in making copies, finding books, and any other need you may have. This library is a great. The parking is not ideal but that is outside the control of the library staff.

My son picked out a book to read to a volunteer dog for 15 minutes. It was very cute and nice for him to practice his reading with a furry friend. They have children's sections with plenty of children's books, and computers for them to play on. They have a language section with Spanish, French, and Asian books which I thought was neat. They have a teens section with a bunch of young adult books, activities, and games to play with. I do see they have a lot of events during the week also so I will be checking those out. They have plenty of parking spaces around the library and side street parking. We will be visiting a lot more often during the summer. All employees are super friendly and knowledgeable.

I was here recently for a woven jewelry class. It was totally free and so much fun. I've never woven a thing in my life, so to learn something new today and free at that made it even more awesome.

We are regular library users and normally attend the Rock Hill branch, where staff are welcoming,…read moresupportive, and wonderful with families and young children. Unfortunately, since that branch is temporarily closed, our experiences at the Fort Mill branch have been the complete opposite. I am a pregnant mother of three young children (ages 4, 2, and 1) and visit alone. I make every effort to maintain appropriate library behavior, but anyone with toddlers understands they require constant supervision. On our most recent visit, a staff member named Tom H. approached me at the self-checkout without greeting or offering help and told me to "keep the volume down." When I explained I was trying my best and was actively checking out to leave, he repeated himself and walked away. At the same time, another family with loud, running children was present and not addressed at all. Afterward, I observed Tom H. discussing my family with other staff members. At no point did he ask if I needed assistance, despite clearly seeing I was managing young children alone. This interaction was upsetting and left me feeling judged, singled out, and unwelcome. Based on repeated visits, this branch does not feel like a supportive or inclusive environment for mothers with young children. Libraries should encourage early literacy and family engagement--this location does not. I hope management takes this feedback seriously so no other parent leaves feeling discouraged from bringing their children into a library.

I never would've imagined Concord would have such a large, nice library tucked into the upcoming…read morehustle and bustle of their downtown. It meshes perfectly with the other shops and restaurants right along the main drag. Out front the shrubs and green spaces are nicely upkept and featured a sculpture or two. In the library you can find basically anything you'd find in a Charlotte library. The bottom floor features the fiction and nonfiction stacks, plenty of computers for public use and tables for board games, puzzles and Scrabble night. Upstairs is an entire theater where, on the day I visited, a duo was playing guitar, tambourine and singing for a group of kids. Just beside the theater entrance is the children's area for books and things. Both upstairs and downstairs you can find staff at the ready to help you find what you need. It's amazing to me that more people don't take full advantage of the service and resources libraries provide entirely for free in our communities. Though I think that's changing, as this location seems to prove.
