This place is like a little evil of necessary-ness…read more There are a couple things that we can only get here. I used to hate coming in here after watching hordes of small children flip the pages of these plastic catalogue while also depositing the contents of their nasal passages upon everything they touched. Booger covered sales literature was placed throughout the room and your likelihood of hitting one of those snot mines was 100%. But Argos stepped up and create a lovely app that lets you order and pay for the thing you want before you even hit the door. Difficult to do since they are all automated. So, no need to don the HazMat suit and put on the blue booties. Get online or pick up the app and leave the infested catalogues to Sneezy, Angry and Dopey over there.

Unlike other delivery stores they don't charge an arm and a leg, they pick a time that's convenient for you and they come on time unike some places that say they'll be there at some point 9 - 9. I mean good grief, how long is a piece of string? I particularly like Argos for electronics, their laptops are good prices as are cameras and they always have the top of the range brands. I recently got myself a very classy Rotary watch from here that came with a three year guarantee and you can't go wrong with a good quality Swiss watch. Argos stockss everything and the staff in this branch are so helpful so you'll never be dissapointed with a visit here!

    Porcelanosa - Loads of tiles!

I've been meaning to write this review for ages. We have bought all the floor and wall tiles for…read moreour current house from Porcelanosa and I would definitely recommend them. Their showroom is big with lots of bathroom displays (and kitchens too) showing lots of different tiles on display. The staff are pretty helpful and can advice which range of floor tiles work best with a wall tile you like etc. They offer a free design service for kitchens and bathrooms and if you are going for a full remodel it's great. The products on offer are expensive and Porcelanosa are definitely marketing themselves as a high end manufacturer. If you think you can't afford the price tag, check your tiler doesn't get a discount - you'll be surprised just how big a discount some of them get c.40%! - or wait for their big sales where all tiles are reduced by 40%. You can also occasionally pick up a good deal through some ex display stock sales when they change things around in their showroom, we picked up a shower screen for a good price this way.

    Laura Ashley Home

Should I be writing this review?…read more This place is the specialist furniture section of that well known purveyor to the flouncy brigade - Laura Ashley. I am not really the target market for flouncy shops. I have the fashion sense of an Ice Road Trucker. So why am I writing this? Mainly to tell folks - you can do better. Don't get sucked into the white washed batten boards and mechanically weathered wooden wardrobes - just remember - you can do better. The lovely "antiqued" standard lamp on sale for 250 quid at Laura Ashley is definitely not £230 better than a £20 version from Ikea when it is sitting in your post-modern attempt at Mr Darcy's drawing room. If you want to move up in style then head to John Lewis. Finally, their delivery system is a little weird. We wanted two sofas delivered in a couple months. When the store finally took delivery of them they had to be dropped off at our place immediately. We could not delay delivery. Unfortunately, we also were trying to sort out decorating and remodelling of the new place and were not sure of dates, Laura Ashley were pretty immovable on this and could only offer a selection of dates that may or may not match ours. We left it. Went to John Lewis and found similar style couches, same price, better quality, much better guarantee and very flexible on delivery. We ordered there. Looking back on it - I was trying to remember why we were so in love with the Laura Ashley stuff. Not sure, but I think that the store sucks you into this idea that you can be a character in a Bronte novel. I say leave the flouncy brigade to their romanticism and badly made over-priced furniture.

I really like the Laura Ashley product range, although given their prices I don't shop here often…read more But I still find that the customer service from staff in this store is terrible. They spend more time talking to each other than customers and manner is poor.

    IKEA - from official website

I've never eaten in the cafe here - that just feels unnatural in a home furnishings store for some…read morereason. But there's no denying that the IKEA experience has transformed the way we equip our homes. Yet it is an experience shopping here, and you either love it or hate it. If you have no idea what you're getting into or what you're looking for, go upstairs to the showroom section and browse around until you have achieved the necessary zombie-like trance state to descend into the main store. Then wander mindlessly through the maze of stuff until you (hopefully) find what you were looking for. If it's larger items you want, you then have to locate them in the warehouse section, which resembles that scene at the end of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' with its endless rows of high shelves. Then finally, the tills, after which you will be more inclined to enter the cafe area for some sustenance after your endurance trial. Savvy shoppers like myself pre-shop on the website, which handily will print out a list of your items and tell you where they are located, including the exact shelf number in the warehouse for the bulky items. Then, avoiding the upper floor, head straight for the small door behind the main staircase and go straight into the store. Pay careful attention to the layout of the 'short-cut' doors that connect the different areas; these will help you to avoid trolling round the whole maze.

I visited on Sunday and while it can be a nightmare on the weekend, thankfully this store is big enough that you might not notice. The line for food was ridiculous though, and it was at least a 10 minute wait. They've also changed the meatball portion sizing so it's small, medium large whereas I'm convinced you used to order by number of meatballs. You also can't have both chips AND mash, you need to get a separate portion of chips. No one stands between me and double carbs, ok?! Apart from these small grizzles, I generally really like going to Ikea and will always overspend and bring home things I don't need. This time it was a fish shaped ice cube tray. Do I need it? probably not. But it was only 90p! Hot tip: if you're holding a gallery exhibition, this is a great place to get the frames. The frames come in boxes of 10 and you can take the whole box for easy transportation.
