There are vintage pieces, new pieces, signed pieces and watches. The vendors are all super-friendly and there is no sales pressure. Some stalls offer VAT back and some do not but prices are negotiable so there are fantastic deals to be had either upfront or through VAT refunds so choose your scenario I could not resist this fabulous bee brooch from Lisbon & while there was not VAT back offered, the appraisal I obtained after I got back home to the US more than satisfied the price I paid. I could spend all day looking around Grays Antique Market. The indoor market is ideal for cold and…read morerainy days. The two floors are filled with various stalls and exploring can keep you warm and dry for hours. There are about 200 antique dealers inside the market, not all were open but the vast majority were doing business and happy to help you. Most of the stalls seemed to sell jewellery and watches. I saw lots of pretty shinny things, but the price tag on some might preclude excess buying. The good thing is that the dealers are willing to make a deal. A watch I had my eye on for a Christmas gift was out of my budget but after a chat at the counter I was able to talk the owner down a bit to something I felt a little more comfortable parting with. If you go to the market the two things you must check out are the sliver shop on the first floor and the lost River Tyburn!! The silver shop has really beautiful pieces and I feel in love with an antique silver compact. As for the River Tyburn I thought it was just a little water for the sake of decoration until I was told it's the River Tyburn. I don't know how true that is but I left believing it was true.

My boyfriend…read morewas always moaning that East London and other vintage shops just don't have really high class, proper matching suits for *all* sizes (he's quite slim and not a big tall buff guy, if you know what I mean but not a whippet either), he always finds it hard to get fitted suits that are vintage. This place is now his mecca. The attire is proper gentlemen's clothes / suits and something a little more special than some of the trash in East London or the cheap nonsense in Central London. If you are a man and a fan of vintage clothes, this should be your first stop - these guys pride themselves on specialising on vintage suits and they really are the best I've found.

Especially good if you want to get things like Morning Suits or DJs. There is a lot of stock, so you may have to search for what you need. Go and have a browse around if you have a spare minute or two. They also do alterations. I still have the wedding outfit I got from there, and it has paid itself back many times now. The pendant was sent the very next day gift wrapped and in time for our wedding anniversary. You can find everything you need for a present (or yourself) from baby clothes to books, jewellery, sleepwear or furniture! I usually like to wander inside the shops, looking at the displays and every now and them, indulging myself with a guilty pleasure, so when I visited this branch with my family, I was expecting more of the same: lovely things and attentive customer service. The thing with this one Oliver Bonas in particular is the customer service. When I have visited some of the other shops, everyone seems happy to help, but not here! There were 3 members of staff in sight, two chatting behind the till in another language and one running around counting the displays. No greetings, no acknowledge of us or the other customer, who seemed very interested in the jewellery cabinet and was trying to gain their attention. We didn't really need anything, we were merely browsing, killing time, but we left very disappointed with the staff. A simple hello would have been nice!

Right when I walked in, there's sterling silver jewelry pieces on the tables and on the counter (next to the register) with beading, wirework, and crystal/gemstone setting designs. If memory serves me correctly, the back of the shop has lots of other pieces that are fun and funky (and frankly the only things affordable for this poor- uni student's budget!). There are various acrylic bead bracelets, colorful pom-pom necklaces, and I remember even seeing plastic toy earring studs (Legos, or perhaps a British version of it?) in the basket mix. There's also a small side entrance within the middle of the store that connects to a small room filled with cute fabric handbags and plushie charms. In all honesty, as an arts-and-crafts person myself...I didn't really see too many pieces that were radically different nor incredibly innovative (in fact, a wallet clutches I ended up buying...I could've made it myself for less the cost if I wanted to make my own). But considering that it's all handmade, sold on Portobello Road (and that the USD is still weaker against the GBP), I do give credit that the earrings and wallet clutch I bought are still unique regardless and that I won't bump into someone anytime soon that have those same pieces.

Was having a problem with my old Omega where I couldn't set the minutes. Thinking it was a small…read moreproblem with the crown, I took the back off and couldn't get it back on. Saw the reviews about these guys, so went in (a bit sheepish) and explained my problem. 5 minutes later I walked out with a functioning watch, with the back reattached and me educated as to how to set my watch minutes. Total cost: £0.00! Yep, no charge. I have a few decent watches that will now be getting their servicing done here. Great customer service.
