So, I'm new to Texas, and I had all my training done in Florida before I moved here. When I finally…read morearrived, I was super excited to start my training again. After a tough time in my life, I decided to go for my instructor's certifications (CFI and CFI-I). I went to two different schools over the course of 6 month but I always kept an eye on American Flyers' 30-day program. But for financial reasons, I couldn't just pay it all upfront. A whole year passed after I paid for my training at those two schools, and I was hesitant to go back to a school. I was afraid that the same thing would happen again. After all, I was paying out of pocket, and I wanted to make sure that my money was being used wisely. So, I decided to check out American Flyers. I won a scholarship, and I wanted to make sure that I started right this time. I wanted to make sure that my efforts were being invested wisely and honestly. Sean our Chief Pilot, was amazing, he answered all my questions, understood my situation, and put together a plan that worked for me in terms of time and finances I was 100% convinced that this was the school I wanted to be at. The planes there are top-notch, and the maintenance is always on top of things. The instructors are amazing! Everyone there is friendly and willing to help you. They're also very straightforward when it comes to challenging your knowledge, because they're training the best pilots in the world. (I mean it) The facility also has FAA-approved sims, so you don't have to worry about that. You have a lot to win in the school! And guess what? The checkride dates are almost less than a month away! I highly recommend American Flyers. It's worth every penny. I have nothing but amazing things to say about their excellent teamwork and dedication to their students!

I had been reading, studying, and taking practice exams for some time, but thought this would help polish up just before taking the exam. Boy was I WRONG. The first comments the instructor made were that he hadn't reviewed the new slide deck that he was using for the first time. Further, the slide deck didn't match the books they had passed out to us. On top of that, at some point he said "it's been years since I took the private pilot exam, I don't really know what's on it." No. Lie. On top of that, to help fill the clear void of knowledge the "instructor" had, other students who had done some studying began offering up their opinions, essentially becoming a free for all. I feel really bad for anyone who came into this hoping to learn. Regardless of your aviation goals, look elsewhere and most importantly, just teach yourself the book knowledge, it's the only way

Time to check another item off of the old bucket list. Flying an airplane is something I have…read morewanted to do since I was a kid. Whenever I looked at getting a pilot license before, I took a look at how much I would have to spend and decided that maybe $30 on a flight simulator game would scratch that itch for me. There's still nothing like the real thing though. So I took advantage of a LivingSocial deal that was too good to pass up - $59 for a discovery flight. Heck yeah, I'm in. Scheduling my flight was a breeze. I called on a Tuesday to see what times they had available and was given the option for a 9 am or 11 am flight Thursday. I jumped at the 9 am slot so that I could start my day off braving the skies in the morning like Charles Lindbergh before going into work. Day of the flight. Unlike skydiving where you have to spend an hour signing page after page saying short of someone deliberately killing you, you cannot sue them, The Flight School just required a few minutes for me to fill out half a page of contact info and I was off with my instructor Luke for a pre-flight inspection of the plane. Luke went through the checklist with me, with him inspecting everything outside and inside the plane, but letting me know what he was checking. Once the inspection was done, it was time to rock and roll. Luke got the engine started, got us rolling, and then allowed me to steer a bit with the foot rudders while taxiing down the runway. Luke then took over and got us off the ground. Whoosh! Once we hit 8000 feet and were stable, Luke turned it over to me. Uh, are you sure about that? I ended up with a good 15 minutes of actually flying the plane myself without really messing up. I mean, I wasn't doing Top Gun or Red Baron moves. A steady hand and taking things nice and easy are preferred over jerking in the direction you want to go in. When my fun was over, Luke took over landing the plane and it was smooth and textbook. He even offered to take a couple of photos of me in front of the plane! With my flight being the short one that The Flight School offers, I was done about an hour after arriving. So I drove to my office, strolled in, and started asking coworkers "So what did you do this morning?" Yes, obnoxious, but effective when you get that reluctant return quetion "Why, what did you do this morning?"

Tom Costa was great, he helped to guide me and give me the information to get started. Patient and…read moreis very open and is willing to go above and beyond. I look forward to starting my journey!

Tidal aviation does everything to perfection. They have a luxury office, with conference rooms for briefings, and a beautiful lobby. The airport is set up with immaculate hangars and a nice boarding/valet space to enter your plane from. The CFI's had water bottles on board, and provided bose headphones for the flight. They fly brand new cirrus planes (I flew a cirrus SR20) with all the bells and whistles. Air conditioning on board kept me very comfortable, and I was able to read the instrument panel with ease. Excellent avionics. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. I was very impressed by their state of the art tech, where they were able to show me 3-d models of my flying. This school was a pleasure to fly with and I highly recommend it for anyone looking into an upgraded flight experience

Horrible place to deal with. Did my discovery flight with…read morethem last year. It jumped up $75 at the last moment bc my plane was down and the only thing available was a SR-22, hence the price hike. After the flight debrief I left my bag there. Living so far I was not able to pick it up before I went overseas. When I come back the person I dealt with was fired and the current management literally said "we can't find it. We lost it. And there's nothing we can do about it." After a year of back and forth of with them to at least replace the bag that they lost/stole. Today I was told There would not be any compensation of any type, at all. And when I asked the managements email the receptionist claimed she had a meeting to go to and that she would send it later. How is this place responsible for things that fly? Now to find a new flight school with cirrus planes.
