It's also right next to 'Leila by the Bay' restaurant. The playground is designed mostly for younger kids with the floor deck made from recycled rubber materials. It has a couple of toddler swings so definitely not for teenagers. We didn't have these kinds of playgrounds when I was growing up. It has three benches and three picnic tables with lots of grassy area. Depending on the time of day, the surrounding trees will provide some shade. I've taken my friends here during the pandemic just to get away from the pandemic madness while enjoying the outdoors while maintaining social distancing. The city of Hercules also does a good job of maintaining and cleaning this park, and the garbage bin is never full, which is a sign that it's being serviced in a timely manner. Best part of all, you can watch the Amtrak passenger trains and freight trains pass by on their scheduled routes. There's something hypnotizing about a train going by; no matter how many times I've seen it, you can't help but look and enjoy. It's definitely appropriately named Railroad Park.

Seating is limited in front of the play area. The elongated cement enclosure for the trees has decreased in length eliminating additional seating area in the rear of the structure. It is a welcome to have such a beautiful neighborhood park with updated structures without having to travel.

Hercules seems to be a family friendly place to be. This general area seemed safe and to have mostly single family houses around it.

I only discovered the park myself when I took an inadvertent detour on the San Pablo Bay Regional Trail when I was trying to avoid the breezes from the bay. There are picnic tables, a bocce ball space, a basketball half-court, and even horseshoe pits. Parking is ample for such a small patch of greenery... And yes, there is a pond. I may have even seen a duck. The paved walkways represent the best part for me because I'm either coming or going. Those who stay are either young moms with their toddlers or dogs with owners glued to their smartphones. There's also a kid's playground (Frog Pad Park) right across the street. Review #156 - 2019…read more After our quick stroll at the Carquinez Strait, we still had plenty of time to kill while waiting for my nephew to finish up with his football practice, so I decided to bring the girls here while the boys went to play basketball over at John Swett Middle School. There are two separate play structures so my daughter had a great time running back & forth between them. There's a climbing structure, which she bravely climbed all the way to the top a few times as well. My 14-year old niece spent the whole time on a swing since there wasn't anyone else around to use it. We pretty much had the whole playground to ourselves for a good half an hour before other kids showed up. My daughter made friends with a 2-year old boy & they both saw a turkey & started chasing it. Thank goodness the turkey didn't chase them back. I like the fact that there are lots of trees so it has a nice shade for hot summer days, but I'm sure it's much colder during fall & winter.

There are picnic tables available for rental, and it's a great place to host a kids' birthday party. There is some shade in the play structure area, but I wish there were more. I came here on a hot Sunday, and there were a smoothie/shave ice truck and a soft serve truck parked nearby in the swim center parking lot for purchase.

They have two sand boxes and a cool 4 way teeter-totter bouncy thing that my 4 year old loved. The park is dog friendly (on a leash) and they have a grassy area with picnic tables. It's a great park!
