Beautiful park. Great dog park. Clean and peaceful. Haven't been for a while but it has always been a pleasant experience when I go.

I like that there is free parking. I came here on a Sunday, a little before 12 PM, and it was easy to find parking. This is one of the biggest outdoor public play structures in the Bay Area that I've been to so far. There are picnic tables available for rental, and it's a great place to host a kids' birthday party. There is some shade in the play structure area, but I wish there were more. There are public restrooms, but they need more frequent cleaning during the weekend. I came here on a hot Sunday, and there were a smoothie/shave ice truck and a soft serve truck parked nearby in the swim center parking lot for purchase. read more

Wow is this park impressive! Came to visit the East Bay Area with my family (including toddlers) and I've never had my littles ask to go to the park so much. It's very open, large, and inviting. There is a huge play area for big and little kiddos, which is also surrounded by green grass and a nearby pound/lake. Can't wait to go back again! One of the best parks I've been to! read more

This is a huge park!! I came here on a very hot Saturday and it was packed!! I walked around the lake here, I also saw some tennis courts, a Rose Garden, baseball fields, soccer fields, and a basketball area which looked like it was in a parking lot. People were having picnics everywhere, and the playground is the place to be for kids!! You can tell this is a very popular park in Walnut Creek!! read more

Went here for a little fishing with my grandson 7/2/25 There was so much goose poop around the lake that at one point my grandson said this place is "POOPY" grandpa, then we saw the dead duck floating in the lake, Trash in the water and all over the ground. we left and went to Lafayette reservior and had a much better experience and caught 3 trout, I dont think i will ever go back to Heather Farms anytime soon. read more

What a great park with one of the biggest play grounds I've ever been too. There is so many different areas to play at and is ideal for ages 2-8 years old. They have a nice ond to walk around, tennis courts, and pickleball courts also. Highly recommend if your looking a for a park for your little. read more

Great park. A kids wonderland. Dress your child up in something easy to identify from in the mass of children running around. Bring cash with you if you didn't prepare water bottles or if you want ice cream from the little independent carts. It's a great scenery even with a hidden rose garden. There's plenty of room to take your choice of location to picnic. Tables fill up quickly. First come to reserve, first to take. There's a basketball court on site with plenty more ground for volley ball set up too. If you have children and they're not afraid to feed the ducks in the man made pond, have at it. Water is very algae like so I wouldn't get too close. Otherwise, decent view. read more

Heather Farm Park is such a fun place to go for a nice walk or to let your kids burn off some energy! We first came here years ago for a wedding in the Rose Garden but didn't see the actual park. After attending a kid birthday party, we really noticed how big the park is overall. They have a large playground area with a sand play area, so much grass and a lake area for your kids to go duck/geese watching. Park is surrounded by baseball fields, an aquatic center and a long trail that surrounds another large lake area. Since moving to the area last year, we have taken our son here it seems like a hundred times. He loves to go on the trail and go look at ducks or turtles. He also likes the playground and to cool off by getting a snow cone from the truck vendors. Pro tip: show up before 10:00 a.m. on the weekend to avoid the masses and get a good parking spot. Huge park! Great for parties, big or small. Lots of picnic areas and a lot of open field. AMPLE PARKING! Nice lake for the leisurely stroll after eating some good bbq. One of the best playgrounds, great for kids 3-13 years old. Any younger and you'd probably be nervous. I probably don't know this park as well as locals, but as a parent from a city, parks like this one make me jealous for that suburb life. They have a 4-5 different large play structures for a variety of ages. Plenty of slides, a rock climbing wall, swings and the likes. Side note: It also gets real busy, but it can handle the foot traffic. The structures are up to date and has plenty of seating and tables surrounding them. There's a large pond with ducks and geese adding to the green space and the fun for those nature loving kiddos. The park also includes what seems to be 6-10 tennis courts and an outdoor heated pool. Not sure of the fee structure but what wonderful community options. Plenty of green space, lots of things to climb on, a ton of parking... overall a great community space in Walnut Creek. read more

Huge park. Was here at the end of September for a company bbq. There were a ton of yellow jackets and they were annoying. There's a large pond area, a rose garden, bbq grills, a basketball court, a large playground and an outdoor pool. Bring your own canopy and chairs as there may not be enough depending on your party size. read more

Huge park with a little bit of everything. The play structure area is huge with activities for littles of all ages. Situated right next to the sand volleyball courts which was perfect for when the kids needed a break from the structure. Tons of space to run around and picnic benches to take a break. Parking was also plentiful. Minus one star for the overly aggressive geese near the lake and all the poop on the path. *Pro tip: bring a piece of cardboard to slide down the hill inside the play area. read more

The garden is lush with many plants to look at. It is also within a close proximity to one of the coolest looking children's playgrounds in the city. Lots of water features including a lake with geese and ducks. The rose garden is beautiful when flowers are in bloom. An awesome park for hours of fun. This is a huge play space with an expansive play structures for all abilities. There's a sandpit, swings, slides, monkey bars, you name it. Pro tip: bring a cardboard box for kiddos to slide down the turf hill. This is a popular park so keep sharp eye on your littles. The lake is beautiful and gated. There's basketball courts, plentiful parking, a peaceful walking path. It's obviously kid friendly, family friendly and dog friendly. read more

This is a beautiful park in Walnut Creek with multiple parking lots, and situated next to tennis courts and soccer fields, and even a dog park. There's a pond in the middle of the park with ducks and geese swimming in the water. But there's also a lake not too far from that, that's more isolated and hidden behind trees and tall grass and shrubs, with more waterbirds to enjoy watching. A beautiful garden can be seen through the wired fence, especially from the grassy field near the pond. But that area was closed the day I visited for a "special event", it looked like people were taking wedding photos. The playground area is large and colorful with multiple structures for kids to climb and run around. In fact, I saw a sign labeled Clarke Swim Center All Abilities Playground. So they definitely have a lot of facilities and a community center to combine with the Centennial Grove (100 trees from around the world), garden, and ponds, making up this magnificent, spacious recreation area. Add that they have unique trails to explore, plenty of grassy fields, picnic tables and seating, it makes for a great day in the park with family and friends. read more

I went to this park with my family and it was amazing!!! My twins are just over 20 months old and they had a blast!! While they couldn't do the older kids' activities, they were smiling, running around and having lots of fun!!! The only downside, going on a Saturday afternoon, meant that parking was harder to find. But other families made use of this park for birthday parties and such! It was a hopping park and I will definitely be back!!! read more

Experience #1 Unfortunately, what should have been a peaceful afternoon sitting quietly with the ducks--alongside my mother and an older gentleman--was disrupted by yet another display of public disregard and boundary-less behavior. While we were simply enjoying the calm and presence of the birds, a large family passed by. Their young child--around four years old--immediately began chasing the ducks, trying to grab them, and driving them into the water in distress. The father stood back and laughed, clearly enjoying the spectacle. I calmly addressed him and said he shouldn't allow his child to behave that way. His response? "Isn't my kid cute?" No, actually. It's not cute--it's disruptive, inconsiderate, and harmful to wildlife. When I started recording the situation out of disbelief, he turned the blame around and called me a creep--for documenting the chaos he allowed his child to cause. Unfortunately, this isn't an isolated event. There's a growing pattern in public spaces--lack of impulse control, poor emotional regulation, and an inability to coexist respectfully. You start to notice a connection: physical signs of metabolic dysfunction, dull emotional affect, and near-total detachment from shared reality. We're watching the downstream effects of high-sugar, ultra-processed, low-protein diets that don't just affect physical health--they impact empathy, cognition, and social functioning. Children raised in this system are losing the ability to respect space, and their parents seem to have lost the instinct to teach them. I still love this park, but I come here knowing peace must now be actively defended. For anyone who values serenity, wildlife respect, and basic public courtesy, be ready--you may need to stand your ground against parental failures and toddlers. Experience #2 I once came to this park in pain -- literal, physical pain -- needing rest. I laid on the grass with a towel, hoping for a moment of peace. Instead, I got a dog's nose shoved in my face. Off-leash. Uninvited. Violating every posted rule. The owners? A mismatched suburban caricature: she looked like a faded cheerleader dipped in foundation and regret, he a bored middle-aged man who probably hasn't thought a new thought in 15 years. They lounged on the grass with their two dogs -- one small, one medium -- both running loose. Another woman, walking her young German Shepherd (on a leash, imagine that), begged them to leash their dogs because she feared hers might react. The couple refused. They laughed at her. Taunted her. Embodied smug, juvenile defiance in adult bodies. She looked distressed. They looked amused. I stepped in -- told them the dogs should be leashed. A basic, lawful, decent request. But in typical California fashion, another nearby couple -- seated with their own picnic -- chimed in to defend the off-leash couple. "We're fine with it," they said, as if their consent somehow overrode city ordinances or common sense. The dog had already startled me and triggered a neck spasm, but sure -- let's let public space be governed by the consensus of whoever is loudest and dumbest. It's always the same: people with no boundaries defending other people with no boundaries. A sad little band of metabolic decline, enabling each other's dysfunction like it's some kind of ethical stance. I called the police. Yes, I did. They came. I showed the video. As they arrived, the off-leash woman erupted into bizarre, hysterical laughter -- a sound that felt not just mocking but unwell. The dogs were still off-leash. You couldn't help but notice the physical signs: puffy, dull skin, vacant eyes, visceral fat, all aging her far beyond what I assume is her actual age. The telltale damage of years spent denying the body real fat, real protein, and real structure -- likely some plant-based diet evangelism wrapped in moral superiority and cognitive decline. Her behavior? Predictable. Hypersensitive to control but emotionally volatile. Low impulse regulation, poor executive function, no ability to self-monitor or adjust. These are not just personality traits -- they are neurocognitive breakdowns, and many stem from long-term malnutrition. California doesn't need more dog parks. Heather Farm Park has many parts- not all of it is see-able at once. there's 2 parking lots and many parcels of land next to each other. amenities: dog park, lake with geese & ducks, baseball, basketball, grass fields, children's play area. concrete walkways, benches, tennis courts are pay for play. unknown how other sports fields are managed. 4.5 stars for the many activities available. it's worthwhile to come here on a slow day. many events are often held here. expect these days to be packed. read more

In a reimagined Marvel universe, I assume this would be the bucolic turf where the Partridge Family would engage in a battle royale with the Brady Bunch ending with a badly choreographed dance-off with rainbow headbands and suede fringe. Even though that may sound like Halloween in the Castro, I'm actually talking about this park which puts the 'F' in family friendly. Two F's even. First, there's a cement pond for fishing just like the one the Clampetts had on "The Beverly Hillbillies". That was where Elly Mae fed her critters. Close by is a more natural lake where ducks and other fowl linger waiting for the humans to leave and a mammoth playground area for the kiddies of which there were quite a few scampering about. There's also enough picnic grounds to satisfy the casts of several prime time network sitcoms and even the streaming ones, too. You're probably asking yourself what I was doing here. As more and more mature trees are removed from Heather Farm Park to get ready for the new multi million dollar "plan", the groves of trees, shrubs & habitat for wild animals & birds continue to be decimated. It was so sad to see the entire length of the nature reserve lake area leveled to the ground; huge tree stumps and tree tops piled all along the once beautiful walking path where Herons, hawks, migrating ducks and river otters could be seen. Shocking to the eye, and simply appalling. For what?To widen the lake? You can't fight City Hall. They will replant new tree sticks that will eventually mature in 20 yrs. We are baffled with the choices the City committe(s) have made for this once beautifully lush crown jewel of City Parks. Now our beloved park will sport really beautiful buildings and more concrete instead of natural open spaces with native grasses, a lush shoreline, and gorgeous canopies of trees. Nice. read more

Quick take: difficulties finding the restroom So, first and foremost this is an excellent park with awesome playgrounds and a beautiful path around a pond/lake. The challenge of finding a near by restroom was challenging. We went on a scavenger hunt around the property in order to locate the restrooms. We walked across a driveway, through an empty parking lot. Afterwards, we realized we ventured very far from the playground area. That's the longest distance I've ever walked to find a restroom at a public park. Usually, there are facilities located pretty close to the play area. Definitely, take the time to come hang out at this park once it's open again. Pee before you go! Pro-tip. ;) read more

Huge playground , might be one of the biggest in the bay. Parking was easy . There's a pond nearby that's fenced for safety and lots of sports amenities . Worth checking out at least once . Heather Farm Park is quite large and is centered around a huge, lush garden, simply called "The Gardens". This park also contains a swim center, a fenced in dog park, a community center, a place for volleyball, sports fields, picnic tables, etc., and although I prefer my horses wild and free, an equestrian center. The Gardens is one of the most beautiful gardens I've ever frequented that allows dogs. They routinely tend to the plants, paving new paths and maintaining old ones. As the seasons change, so do the plants, animals, and insects. Sometimes the gardens are lush with life and sometimes they're barren. I love the monarchs that float softly around the park blessing the chrysanthemums. I marvel at the squirrels and moles that scurry and appear as if they are playing a game of hide and seek. There are even turtles in the lake that are a little too accustomed to humans but I still love it when they gather to greet me. The geese also crack me up when they hiss at me as I approach them lol! As for human interaction, sometimes if you're lucky, you might bump into one of the groundkeepers, Jerry, and be allowed to chat with him on what exciting features to look forward to at the park. I enjoy the pumpkins that they plant around late August the most, it just makes autumn all the more festive and harvest season real. The pumpkins are situated in a small field in front of the rose wall but the plants alternate routinely to reflect the season. What is currently occupying that space are carnations and daffodils for Easter. As you make your way around, your olfactory receptors are also greeted by sudden waves of jasmine and daffodils throughout. I often literally stop to smell a flower! :) Of course we can't forget the circle, walls, and stairs of roses that overlook the fountain. It's the one place I walk with my head down because I'm reading the dedications engraved on the bricks that encircle the roses. I make it a habit to try and read a new name and dedication each time that I pass through. It's also a great way to become more intimate with the space and the people who have spent their afternoons there. Sometimes visitors will also dedicate benches or plants leaving quotes or verses that you have to look up. It becomes a mysterious adventure linking our current time to these people, with their passing thoughts and perspectives that are so ephemeral. On those cold winter evenings, their passing presence makes the solitude more bearable. However magical the garden seems, sometimes we're pulled back to reality when venturing outside of the Gardens. "Out there", things become a bit more rugged. Traces of irresponsible humans can be found behind the equestrian center bathrooms, where large amounts of fragmented glass lie; a place I call "the outskirts of broken dreams". The area is definitely one of the more neglected parts of the park even though park staff has tried at times to address the issue. And adjacent to the equestrian center overlooking what I call "the duck pond", are little walkways that are often scattered with dog waste which is awful for the wildlife and habitat there. The park puts up doggy bag posts and trash cans for visitors but I suppose those people believe in fairy dog scoopers that magically come collect waste in the deep sleeping hour. Sometimes people often also fish in this part of the park even when the signs obviously state not to. So yes, this is why we cannot have nice things people! This park is very popular, so often noisy and booked on the weekends. The Gardens also gets rented frequently as a venue for weddings, etc., but because there is no online calendar, you cannot know beforehand so might arrive and be unfortunately shut out. I once defiantly snuck in anyway and made one tour around the entire gardens before I was shooed away by the mother geese with their disapproving clipboards. :) I obviously view Heather Farm Park as something more than it is and more importantly, I know my dog, who has thoroughly enjoyed "interacting" with your flowers, chasing squirrels and butterflies, and rolling freely through your grass, would surely agree that this place can sometimes act as a sanctuary away from home. So thank you to the staff, plants, and animals that make this park our secret little garden :) read more

Unfortunately my car was recently vandalized, window smashed in and left in one of the Heather Farm parking lots near the baseball field and dog park in broad day light on a saturday afternoon. Be aware this happens even at a very nice park with people pushing strollers and walking their dogs. read more
