Came from the U.S. to visit my in-laws. Was originally bummed I couldn't bring my electric guitar to play during the two month visit. After being in Vancouver for a few days, I looked on-line for guitar rentals, not expecting to find anything. Lo, Long & McQuade popped up as the only viable option. Relatively close, too. Visited the North Van location and was in great hands with guitar rep, TARA (super friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating with my requests). Rented a Kramer Nite-V for two months for a fair price. Kept me from going insane. Only good things to say about the rental process. Other staff was great, too. Will definitely recommend to others and come back again when I'm in town. read more

I've been in the Music Biz for 40 years now, and having an essential equipment supplier that can be trusted is a requirement in this profession. Long and McQuade are a family owned chain store that we have successfully used on tours all across Canada for back line rental, spares and repairs since 2002. I now live in North Vancouver and so have started to use the Main St. branch for pro-audio studio equipment too, finding consistently the ideal of 'over and above' customer service combined with competitive pricing. In particular, Alex Knight in pro-audio and rentals has been great; always very quick to reply with knowledgable advice. I know he has put in research in the background to help with my requests, and perhaps most importantly, quickly corrected an error someone else made so I'm actually better off than before. Mistakes happen, so how they get fixed is important. So for anyone just starting out, I would trust the advice of the staff to sell you something that you need, and not just some stock they need to shift. All in all a great shop, with a good company ethic behind it from our experience. read more

I've purchased two guitars and a bunch of accessories from L&M and both times received great, friendly service. The guys at the counter have always made me feel welcomed and appreciated as a customer. The first time I purchased a guitar here was back in the day at their old location. My mom brought me in and the sales guy kindly spent ages explaining to her the difference between many different types and models. He set me up with an inexpensive yet fantastic guitar that I still regret selling. It had such gorgeous tone. Buying my first guitar at here is a good childhood memory of mine. The second time, I wanted a specific model that wasn't in stock at this store. The sales guy who checked the stock at other stores and then placed the order for me was very nice and helpful. I've also rented a guitar and again, the process was quick and easy. I haven't spent much time in the other departments, but the selection for guitars and guitar accessories is terrific. read more

I'm judging this store simply by what is on the North Shore. I would prefer to go to a music store that wasn't a chain, but they are more difficult to come by. I much prefer this store to Tom Lee. I was VERY surprised the first time I went into it. I thought it was this tiny shop, but it's quite large. It's clean and the employees don't bother you all the time. For me, when I got into a music shop, I like to just look around. Most the time I'm not even there to buy but there to gawk. They understand that at this store and don't watch your every move. Tom Lee always seems to be on your heels or simply staring at you, but not really offering anything useful. My complaint about this store would be that for a large store, I would think they would have a few more accessory type items. But eh, no biggie. Like I said it's a franchise, and it's just okay, but definitely exceeds Tom Lee on the other side of town. read more

Staff were helpful but said what u see is what we have. I asked them to look something up on computer in inventory because I was having a hard time seeing what I was looking for and they weren't willing to help me past telling me to look for myself. I ended up buying something that was faulty because they wouldn't let me try it even on the tester machine before buying it. I don't even wanna go back and return it because they were snobby and more interested in talking about their own problems of pouring concrete, time off to deal with their own issues and getting people to answer their phone calls. Annoying. I've had better service the other long and Mcquade stores. I don't recommend this store unless you are buying a guitar. They seem to be more helpful in that area. Go elsewhere read more

Went in to purchase an electric guitar with my brother the staff there was so rude and and arrogant that we left and went to Tom Lee were we bought to electric guitars two acoustic guitars, amps and cases. I am so disgusted by Long and Mcquade's service that there is no circumstances I would ever enter any of their stores again. read more

Love Long & McQuade. It's cool that I've bought gear there, used it for years, outgrew it, and since they were still selling the item, they bought it back from me (at a reduced rate, sure, but at a very reasonable rate). I then used the money to upgrade my gear. I've also done the rent-to-own thing with them a few times now, which has worked well for me. read more

Easy staff. Great rental options and pricing. Was lucky to find a lefty RG350MHL and they priced it down to the price of a RG 350DXL Great service and setup after you buy a guitar or bass. I just bought a lefty Squier Jazz Bass. They ordered it new from factory when I said I preferred that. no questions asked. And great financing options too. read more

I've had at least 2 visits to the store where I had really long waits and bad service. When I spoke to the Manager - and I was very reasonable - he was very rude. I've found other Long and McQuade stores much better, but they are not in North Vancouver. If you have to stay on the North Shore, consider Tom Lee as they've been great! read more

There is no music store on planet earth that can beat Long & McQuade in North Vancouver. Friendliest and most knowledgeable staff I've ever dealt with. True commitment to customer service. The few times I've had to return something, there were no questions asked. This store is second home to me and never once have I felt unwelcome walking in there. I've purchased the odd item from other music stores only to regret doing so. If I ever need anything that isn't in stock, I'll just wait for Long & McQuade to order it for me from now on.
