In those 8 years I have had 3 different dogs and all loved East Shore Park. My current dog thinks the park is all for him: he would go there multiple times a day if I let him, but we usually aim for once or twice a day at most. There are multiple areas to explore including tennis courts, a playground, several ball fields and overgrown bocce courts. Unfortunately the sewage treatment plant smell still lingers. Definitely a down fall to living in this neighborhood. But the water views and park itself can't be beat.

Road was closed to vehicular traffic, but the walk was nice and gradual, all of it on what seemed to be new macadam. After about 1.6 miles, road forks. To the right is a short walk to Judge's Cave. To the left, a short walk to the scenic overlook. Interesting story commemorated on a plaque on the cave. Very few other people, and almost as many dogs. Scenic overlook kind of blah....no water views, but at an elevation of about 600 ft. Overall, a beautiful day. Breezy, shaded by a nice canopy most of the way. Good way to stretch the legs, and learn an interesting piece of history.

The State Park was not too crowded. It was perfect weather and breezy that one can feel the tranquility. The people we had encountered easy going and friendly. The goal was to check out Scenic Overlook route. The weather made it perfect with clear blue skies and the clouds -Wow. The scenic overlook route had several spots to check out the view. As well to check out, John's Cave was truly incredible intriguing site & the history. It was a beautiful day for the beach. We went to the West Haven beach yesterday. I haven't been…read morehere in a few years. They have a large parking lot, where you can pay on the meter. I love the boardwalk here. The boardwalk is long, as long as the beach, with plenty of benches if you should need a rest. They have some of the cutest pups walking along the boardwalk, it's like a dog parade. Then even have folks who walk around with boom boxes. Providing a bit of a situation to dance to anyone who's around. The beach is easily accessible right by the boardwalk. Unfortunately it wasn't the cleanest. There was a substantial amount of seaweed and other debris. The sand wasn't soft, it was full of broken shells and other particles. The cleanliness could depend on peak of season. As I mentioned I enjoyed the boardwalk of this beach. There's kids on rollerblades, and people on bicycles. It's a nice way to catch the sun.

This is a beautiful park, it's very well maintained and clean. There are a lot of people walking…read moretheir dogs. You can walk in a small boardwalk and read about the wildlife. There are also some more challenging hikes where there is even some scrambling. Very clean and peaceful. The pine needles smell so beautiful! There's lots of free parking. You need pay for parking if you're out of state. Plenty of porta potties and bathrooms.

There is no entrance fee for CT residents and only costs $5 for out-of-state vehicles. We enjoyed walking around the ponds and trails with out dog as it appears many others do. The sole disappointment is the small covered bridge is currently closed. Next time, and there will be a next time in the not too distant future, we will bring a lunch and settle in at one of the many picnic tables.

There's a few different sections of the Naugatuck State Forest. We went to the Quillinan Reservoir…read moreBlock, which is in Ansonia. There are a few ways to access this park, we decided to go from the Ansonia Nature Center. The transition over to State Forest is pretty subtle, mainly with some markings on the trees. This park is also adjacent to some watershed land, that is also marked really well. This park has some nice hiking trails, with a lot of different loop options. We ended up doing a 10k (6 miles) hike, on the white and purple loop trails. The trails are nicely blazed, and there's a really good variety of trees. We went through some hardwoods and some pine forest, and there were lots of plants and some water views of the reservoir at various points along the hike. It's not too strenuous elevation wise, which was nice for a moderate hike. Mountain biking is allowed in the park, and we saw several people out for a ride, so it seems a pretty popular location for biking, and the trails seem not overly eroded. My only complaint is this park is adjacent to a gun club, so for a good chunk of the hike (mostly the white trail) was done to the sound of near constant gunfire. It's not the most tranquil thing, especially if you're sensitive to that sound.

We stumbled upon Branford Point after seeing tons of private beach roads nearby and a quick Google search for a public Branford beach. There were at least a dozen fishermen here near the parking area. There is a small strip of a sandy beach with an actual lifeguard. Also, there is a playground/park with picnic tables. Next time we come back, we'll be more prepared to go on the sand and pack a lunch to stay longer!

The amount of time seemed just right to explore this city of Branford park, on my way in to New Haven, and I am glad I did. Branford Point park is small but packed with memorable features. From the boat launch, which is surrounded by water on 3 sides, to the beach, backed by a grassy, tree-lined hill, there is much beauty to absorb from this point. Parking was possible, but limited: I imagine in the summer high season that it becomes difficult for anybody that lives outside Branford to visit. Though it may be small and packed, the challenge in this case would be worth the breeze from Long Island Sound, the sights of nearby Thimble Islands, and the peaceful vibes I found at Branford Point.

There are picnic benches, boardwalks, and a lot of seagulls. You can also explore the little shops on the area. If you are not a Milford resident, make sure you pay for parking! Even for residents, you need a sticker. You can explore Silver Sands by it.
