Excellent spot for a hike! The waterfall and covered bridge are beautiful, as are the hiking trail. Red trail was a bit harder than we expected, especially with a 3 year old. AllTrails marked it as easy, but I'd say it's more of a medium. A boarded section washed out from a recent flood, so it took some maneuvering to get through. Also a few big trees down. But overall it was a really fun and relaxing hike. read more

First, my one complaint - the parking lot is small. I know I was visiting during the time of Covid-19, and everyone is desperate to get out in a socially distanced manner, but... the parking lot is small. I suspect at least two of the parking jobs I saw were not intended in the original design. But the park itself is beautiful - big open areas, a gorgeous pond right when you walk in, and clearly labeled signs pointing you to the attractions. There are picnic tables available, and although there are Canadian geese (and rumors of swans) roaming about, people do bring their dogs. It also seems to be a thing for people to leave their fishing lines in the trees? The baubles you see are not leftover Christmas decorations. read more

We visited this park on a weekday with our dog and enjoyed our stay though the falls were close to nonexistent due to the current drought and the day was overcast. Fall has arrived so the leaves had changed and the short walk to the covered bridge was quite impressive. I am looking forward to a return visit perhaps in early spring when the small falls will be more impressive. read more

Right where route 188 meets 67.... if you find yourself in Southbury, Middlebury, Waterbury, Oxford, Naugatuck, or Seymour... hey!!!! come here and relax near the falls, the once historic site of a papermill, and the wide, well cared-for trail! the 8 mile brook is also located inside this quiet, family-type surroundings. A great sunny, warmish day to hang out with my friends and their new puppy, which arrived on a truck just an hour before. It was great to let the kids run around and also to unwind, enjoy the reconstructed covered bridge, the glorious green with the blue sky, and appreciate the out of doors a hop and a skip away from the Quaker Farms National Historic District. read more

This park is always beautiful, no matter what time of year you visit. Parking is free and I believe the park closes at sunset. There is a tiny waterfall with a babbling brook. This last time I visited, there were two men fishing in the brook. I am not sure if this is allowed or not, but they had the whole setup. I used to come to this park all the time when I was growing up, and I was excited to show my husband while we were in town visiting. We took the trail to the covered bridge and looked at all the carvings while admiring the brook from the bridge. The sounds of the water are so relaxing, it would be nice to sit and hang out for a while. We continued down the trail towards the boardwalk, however, we were stopped in our tracks by uprooted trees. I mean, multiple HUGE uprooted trees. I was disappointed to find this, and we had to turn around and cut our little hike short. I remember spending hours there on that trail! I left a star off because of having to cut our hike short and because there was broken glass scattered throughout the trail. This park is dog-friendly, however, we had to carry our pup to prevent injury. I still think this park is lovely and very beautiful, I was just a bit disappointed on our last visit. read more

Great views from the beginning to the end. At first I went towards the sign that directed the trail of watch tower. But after reaching the end of that trail there was nothing there. I wasn't giving up! I went towards the Boardwalk sign and trail. After hitting the boardwalk I noticed the trail went on and followed the red dots on the trees. After 15-20 hike from boardwalk I found the watch tower. Worth it! read more

Like another review had mentioned, the signage is not 100% perfect. We ended up at the fire tower, but then to get around is not marked. We ended up on what was not part of the trail and I had my 7 month old strapped in her Tula. It was definitely an adventure getting back to the actual trail. Due to the lack of signage we had to just turn around and go back the way we originally came. Last summer, my husband and I posed for our maternity photos along the falls and near the covered bridge. We were very lucky that there was a wedding later that day and hay barrels were set up so we used them for a few props. However, I was a little put off at 8 months pregnant when someone who was attending said wedding told me I shouldn't be parked for so long because they had a wedding to go to. One, it's a public park. Two, arrive earlier on a SUNDAY if you want prime real estate. Three, I'm growing a human and I can and will take my time. read more

Beautiful resort. Went here for a wedding. The hiking trail is gorgeous and the pavilion area has a bit of shelter for rain. Perfect for picnics, family gatherings (rent out the pavilion), or the occasional hike. Watch out for ticks while hiking and be sure to bring plenty of water, the hiking trail can run a bit long if you constantly stop to take pictures as I do. Parking is a bit scarce (about 30-40 spots, but all taken during the week at 2pm!). If you live in the area and are tired of hop brook, give Southford Falls a try. You wont be disappointed. read more

The State Park for families, fishing and hiking. A beautiful little Connecticut State park with gorgeous waterfalls and a picturesque pond. It's time to get back out there and rediscover the world! This State Park is rustic, and offers simple pleasures. Be aware the parking lot is smaller and it might be full at peak times. The good news is that this limits the amount of people in the park so you'll never feel overwhelmed by crowds. I will admit you're probably not going to feel like you're alone, unless you're out on the trail, which I highly recommend. Connecticut should definitely invest some money in this gem. The observation tower, the covered bridge, the pond and... Of Course The Falls! They're all worth seeing. If I lived closer I could definitely see this State Park becoming one I'd visit often. I recommend you give it a try. It's essentially the tranquil pond and forest our imaginations dream of... Or just watch Netflix and look at the photos. Good luck! read more

This is a small state park in Southbury. Nice layout - walking trails can be blocked by downed trees. Falls are picturesque but just a trickle because of fraught. Plenty of shade. Ancient but serviceable picnic tables so good picnic spot. Not very crowded on weekdays but weekends can get busy. Relatively Small parking lot with couple of porta-Johns. Beautiful waterfalls, a covered bridge, free parking, wide grassy fields, and a large pavilion for parties--what more could you ask for? I stop by here every once in a while when I'm in the area just to stand by the falls and reconnect with nature, right in the middle of suburban western CT. I've seen people pose for engagement photos here, and with good reason, as there are gorgeous views galore. My boyfriend and I attempted to hike up to the watch tower last year, and while we didn't quite make it to the tower due to confusing signage (granted, we didn't check the map along the way), it was an enjoyable hike nonetheless that took us right by the falls and streams. The entrance to the park is located right on Route 188, and I've always been able to find a parking spot in the modest lot. Overall, A+ for a park that is as accessible and enjoyable as it is stunning. read more

Southford Falls is great. It has something for everyone, and for all seasons. In the winter you can sled down the big hill (just don't go into the pond!). They do a good job maintaining the walking path, which I think might be wheelchair accessible. The hiking path to the lookout tower is a big rougher but still well maintained. read more

It was nice, but not as groomed as some other trails that I've visited. I did enjoy my time with nature though. The leaves are just starting to turn and another week should be better. Wet leaves make for treacherous walking conditions also, so that part of walking in the woods I am not looking forward to. read more

The Southford falls is not that great. The falls is very small. In the summer, the falls has almost no water. The place is good for a small picnic. We took the trail to the top to the vista point and the view from there was not that appealing. If you live nearby this area and you don't have anywhere to go, this is a good place to visit. Absolutely amazing! My partner and I were driving by on a road trip through CT when I saw the waterfall and was super excited to see we could stop and walk around. Lovely area, and the waterfall is just gorgeous. I took many photos and was in absolute heaven. Although muddy due to the weather, it was great to walk around. The covered bridge was nice and a perfect spot to take photos. We ended up walking to the watch tower and that was pretty cool too. Plenty of parking and not many people around made it all the more enjoyable. I would love to live in that area and be able to take daily walks around the lake and waterfall. So jealous! read more

Great spot for picnicking and hiking. The trail to the watchtower is a little treacherous, but not super strenuous.The falls are a popular spot for wedding and engagement photos, and justifiably so. There are picnic tables interspersed all around the water, and a nice pavilion towards the back field. This is one of my favorite hiking locations. read more

This park is really great! The main attraction is obviously the waterfall which is really beautiful and makes you feel like your are far away in the middle of nowhere even though a busy road is right there. I love the red covered bridge too at the bottom of the fall. It's very old New England and I would imagine looks even cooler in the fall. The hiking trail is very well marked and is great for the whole family including your 4-legged friends. Along the trail there is a watchtower which is small but very well maintained. The trees are so tall it's hard to see much of a view but it's still pretty cool. There's also a small pond which looks great for fishing and a large pavilion area complete with picnic tables and grills. I would definitely go back here, my only wish is that it was closer to my house! read more

Nice park with trails to walk. Some people bring horses. They have a nice waterfall. Small pond for fishing. You cannot swim here. It would be nice but you can't. Many people come here for wedding pictures. It is very pretty. Bring a camera and come when it is cool. read more

it was good. The fire tower was not a water tower, it was a platform with stairs. You can get lost if you don't keep an eye out for the trail turn up to the fire tower. very nice hiking trails if you don't get lost. great waterfall. the river was rushing fast!! my sister, mom and I had a good time here!
