Unprofessional guiding experience…read more We booked a three-day guided trip with Russ through Montana Dream Fishing Outfitters- two days drifting the Missouri River and one day wading the Blackfoot. To his credit, Russ knows both stretches of water well and put us on active fish throughout the trip. That said, the overall experience felt unprofessional. Over the course of the three days, Russ's comments and attention toward me felt flirtatious and inappropriate, uncomfortable given I was there with my boyfriend. There was also a clear, consistent imbalance in guiding: whether we were drifting the Missouri or wading the Blackfoot, Russ focused heavily on getting me onto fish while giving my boyfriend noticeably less help. On the river days, he also seemed to position the boat at times in ways that worked against my boyfriend landing a fish. The low point came at the end of the trip. When we tipped Russ, he complained about the amount and lectured us on tipping etiquette. Criticizing clients over a voluntary gratuity is not okay. We caught fish across both rivers, but that doesn't offset three days with an outfitter who made one of us uncomfortable, treated us unequally, and then lectured us about money. This was in the Missouri river. The next day we went to a lake known as "the land of the giants". It lived up to it's name. We caught 20 again! The third day was on a different part of the river. We only caught 3 that day, but it was a beautiful Montana day, and I had already caught waaaay more fish than I had imagined. All in all it was a great experience. Garrett was magnificent. He was very patient with me and my many questions prior to the trip. The guides were top-notch. Great teachers too. I'm looking forward to our next trip, and would highly recommend this outfitter for the job.

I fully appreciated their helpful staff and expertise. They were responsive, listened, and were supportive of my decision to return the waders. Cons: The boat that is covered gets hot inside, unless there is a cool breeze. If you are in the covered boat and not seated at a window, you will miss the majority of sites that are called out during the narration. Views are very limited. If the boat is full, you can't really walk and hang out on the back of the boat which is open air. The boat moves very slow. Did I mention it gets warm? My advice: if an option, take the open air boat (Sacajawea) where there is no cover (bring sunscreen). Check to see if they rent pontoons or other boats. Just an ok experience and wouldn't do it again.

Only a few miles from downtown, and I think it was $8 fee for daily use. We expected to be there for quite a while but quickly realized when we got there it was probably going to be an hour or less. We walked around the lake 2x and I took some pictures and it was probably about an hour. There definitely was not much to do or see. There is a lake and there was a paddleboard class, there are ducks and birds, and there were some people eating lunch. I would not say this is a hidden gem or a gem, but if you want a park in the area it serves that purpose. I was expecting more based on the glowing recommendation for a top thing to see and do in Helena.
