First time there. Ok but not amazing. Seating is physically uncomfortable--benches, bar stools or uncomfortable outdoor chairs--but I get the draw for people that want to be social and drink. Nice wide drink selection. Tried two different tacos. Despite the option to try different types of meat, all the shell styles have to be the same when you order a plate (or a plate +1), which seems odd. I had fish and pork while my partner had the beef. Fish was good--note, it's fried--while pork seemed greasy. Beef had a nice flavor. Liked the soft wrap. Despite all the reviews saying you have to wait to be seated, we were ignored by the staff (literally one was socializing with a group of people five feet away) when we lingered in the doorway, so partner just went to the bar and asked if we could take a seat. Our server was pleasant enough, but I'd say the indifferent reception on a non-busy weekday night merited the three stars. read more

We've heard great things about Longtable and this was our first visit. The beer selection is amazing! They had some of my favorite local crafts at the ready. However, we were one of the first groups to arrive but last to receive our food (3 appetizers). He took down our orders without writing anything down. We gave our waiter the benefit of the doubt. We had to ask him for an update to which he responded, "you never received your food?". He would've known the answer to that if he had checked in on us for refills. It took over 30 minutes to receive 2 orders of frites and the trout spread. Additionally, I had to walk up and ask for my tap beer that I had also ordered. If our waiter accepted his fault and made up for it, I would've given 5 stars but sadly he seemed unapologetic. read more

As the restaurant name implies--- long tables so good for groups if it's not too busy. Just snag whatever seating there is..order at the register. Besides the cheese curds, the food was pretty average. Had a selection of the meats.. wings meh, briskit seemed dry... Or at least needed sauce. Pulled pork also dry and needed some sauce. Ordered a burger without ketchup and mustard. They served me a burger with ketchup and mustard. I sent it back. They then served me the same patty with new bun having tried lazily to wipe the ketchup and mustard off. Haven't seen that bush league move since the 1980s at McDonalds. Also the cook who pulled the move was the only employee not consistently wearing a mask. They did refund me the meal when I brought it to the manager's attention. Long table beer cafe is an interesting new spot out in Middleton offering a modern element to classic Wisconsin foods like brats, curds, and beer. Definitely a much needed addition to the neutrality that serves as much of the restaurants and hang outs in the downtown area. Walking in to this place there is a very communal feel alongside a smoky scented atmosphere (though the actual air isn't smoky!). The music is loud and laid back. To the left is a private tasting area and to the right is an open refrigerator filled with at least 100 beers, a deli fridge with charcuterie options, a place to order, and finally a bar with taps and seats. No hard liquor at the bar; just beer and wine. The tables are long. The menu is focused with a few appetizers, sandwiches(including sausages and classic sandwiches but no standard burger), snacks, and charcuterie boards. Classic options like cheese curds and French fries are present. The cheese curds have no option of simple classic accompaniments. In other words, no ranch!Near the counter a community burger where proceeds are given to charity, a nice touch. I decided to order a brat and cheese curds. The curds were breaded in a corn meal better that tastes light and crispy. The brat was initially celebrated for its awesome bun to meat ratio but fell short in that it was under cooked and under seasoned. Literally the inner half of the sausage was pink and cold to taste and therefore it was thrown out. Overall a cool new spot but some of the fundamentals should be improved upon. read more

Not sure why this place has only 3.5 stars - other than a bit of a wait (35 minutes estimated wait when there were at least two tables open the whole time we were waiting, and we ended up being seated at one of those...?) The food really hit the spot. The curds were some of the best in Madison with a pretty thick batter but still had a good crunch and they have 5 different dipping sauces to choose from - the beer cheese sauce went shockingly well with the curds and the honey sriracha aioli was super good. All three of us liked our meals- the burger seemed to be the least favorite, but not bad. The taco trio is great for people like me who can't decide on what meat they want in their entree! The brisket was my personal favorite, though. And of course, they have an incredible drink selection so they really have something for everyone! A busy spot that we'll definitely be trying again soon. read more

Food was great, but the service needs a little work. I called in for a pickup order and they said it would be 30 minutes. No big deal, I'm happy to wait. When I get there 30 minutes later, they say that it's almost ready and that they'll send me a text when it is. Again, not a big deal, I'm happy to wait. 45 minutes later, I don't get a text, but I'm tired of waiting so I go up again. My food has been sitting out and is pretty lukewarm. Even cold, the cheese curds were fantastic. Definitely interested in coming back, but I'll plan on dining in instead. read more

Cool, casual spot with a huge selection of beer. To no surprise, the space is full of long tables and a very open atmosphere. This is a great place to go with a group of friends. We enjoyed a few beers, and I delighted by the endless choices on the wall. The group ordered the brisket sandwiches, cole slaw, cheese curds, and beer cheese soup. It was my first time trying beer cheese soup and it was not for me, but everything else was tasted! Looking to try some new beers or a casual spot to hangout with friends? This is a good pick! I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about the concept of this place. I'm not usually a big fan of the communal table cafeteria feel, and when you walk in there's a huge cooler full of canned/bottled beer that definitely added to that feel. However, all of that information is pretty much in the restaurant name, so I more or less knew what I was walking into. The restaurant was pretty busy for a Wednesday night, but there was more than enough room for our group of 4 to sit comfortably without feeling like we were shoved up against people we didn't know. I was very happy with the wine selection, you don't see red Wollersheim options on many menus so I definitely took advantage of that! We put in an order for goat cheese puffs and a meat and cheese board and found our seats to look at the menu further. When the apps came, I was in heaven! I am a goat cheese FREAK, and those puffs were everything. The cheese was melty inside a flakey pastry type dough that had a subtle sweetness to it. Probably one of the best things I've ever eaten. The meat and cheese board was good too, it was served with lightly toasted triangles of bread and crackers. Pretty self explanatory, but delicious all the same. After we ate our apps we popped up to the cashier to place our dinner order. I ordered a special only offered on Wednesdays, the loose meat burger. I used to love going to Maid Rite on Odana Rd when it was still open, and this burger was spot on! I had fries on the side with a chipotle aioli dipping sauce. The fries were great, and the sauce was awesome! They actually have many sauce options which I loved. It takes a typical order of fries and makes it unique. My friend got a curry ketchup and my husband got a garlicky aioli that was SO GOOD. My husband loved his community burger, and our friends loved their food as well. I'm so glad we gave Longtable a chance, despite the cafeteria concept not being my jam. This place wowed us for sure. read more

As of the end of August there is no indoor seating available. They have a half-dozen or so seating options outside on the patio or you can order take-out and sit in the park across the street. The staff is wearing masks and gloves and all surfaces are sanitized between customers. Additionally, guests must wear a mask unless seated. They do have access to the indoor bathrooms for customers. The menu is just as good as always. I got the italian sub sandwich and it was huge and delicious. They're also offering all of their tap and bottled/canned beer, so there's an extensive drink menu to review. All menus are single use. Everyone was super friendly - including the other guests. THIS IS NOT TAKE-OUT. You order online, choose the 15-minute time range for pick-up. And when you get there, they say, "What's your name? Perfect. We'll start your order for you." Um, NO. You can drop my fries when I get there. You can even say, "I'm sorry -- we're about 10 minutes behind." But under no circumstances should you say, "We're starting that now because you just got here." The person manning the patio counter said the exact same thing to the three people who came after me, so I know mine was not a special case. If I choose a time for pick-up, please have it ready within that timeframe. I ordered at 10:27am for pick-up between 12:00-12:15pm. I arrived at the patio counter at 12:01pm. I got my food just before 12:30. So to have driven out from Cross Plains and having waited outside in the cold for half an hour (and to have given over a 30% tip when I ordered online), I was pretty disappointed. No "sorry for your wait." No "thank you for ordering." I'm not interested in waiting a half an hour for take-out ONCE I GET THERE. I hate giving low ratings. But each time I've come here I've been EXTREMELY disappointed. The first time? The male bartender ignored me so many times, the stranger who was sitting next to me spoke up because I was passed over for three men who arrived at the bar after me. I'm 5'10" -- it's not like he didn't see me. Super not cool. I wanted to give them another chance. I'm regretting it. Take-out with patio pickup, ordered at 4:30 with a 5:00-5:15 pickup time. Called ahead to make sure the pickup time was right (because the order slip said to pick up at 4:30 which is when I ordered. A glitch, they assured me.) It's 5:28 and still no food, not even an acknowledgement they are late and breaking their promise. I asked for an update, and turns out, the food's been ready and sitting there for "about five minutes." Wow. Again, no apology or anything. It's a shame. The food was good, though a bit cold. This was a neat place in Middleton that seems very hipster/trendy. I came here on a Tuesday night after a bike ride, so it was not incredibly busy. The interior is made up of quite literally a bunch of longer, large-group style tables with benches and then some standard bar tables with stools. I could see this being irritating if it were busy and there were random pockets open but nowhere great to sit... but was just fine for being not busy. We ordered from a select menu at the counter, and then it is brought to your table. The menu was fine, with some fancy type sandwiches, salads, sides, sausages, and cheese/meat boards. I was heading into work after dinner here, so was not able to enjoy their beer menu, but it was pleasantly fantastic looking. It's frustrating that finding dark beer in summer can be such a challenge, but they had a good selection of dark (including Harviestoun Old Engine Oil, one of my favorite porters!) and other types of beers. They also had a decent wine selection. I ordered the goat cheese puffs to share with a friend, which were delicious. As an avid goat cheese lover, there was just goat cheese and a minimal amount of herbs inside, so that the goat cheese was the focus. Fantastic. There was a bit too much "puff" on the corners so that the outside crust to inside goat cheese ratio was not ideal, but the puff itself was also yummy (maybe not great preparation for a beach body, but whatever). I had the ham and cheese sandwich. This was the only main-course item that really sounded halfway decent to me, and that's the reason I ordered it. It was nothing to write home about, and nothing worth returning for, but it was fine. It came on a sub-type bread, but the whole thing was a bit too "bready" and I felt like I got bit too much bread compared to the other ingredients. Overall, the issue with the sandwich was that it wasn't well-balanced. My first comment was that it could have used a sauce or dressing, and then I see on the menu that it does in fact have both a butter and a blueberry-jalapeno chutney on it. I struggled to find it on the sandwich, but did ultimately locate it. I got no hint of jalapeno, which was fine (I don't like jalapeno), but on the bites where the blueberry could be tasted, it was a welcome addition. They clearly use a quality meat, as the ham was plentiful and delicious. If I returned and the menu was the same, I might order it again based on not finding other options that sounded much better, but I think there are other places in the nearby area I would prefer. read more

I have really wanted to like this place. It is new-ish, looks nice and is clean. Often they have cool music playing and the tap list is awesome. I could not figure out why it seemed so many of the servers/counter/bartenders just weren't very nice (turn-over seems high for FOH) until I was served by the owner. When I noticed I was overcharged the owner was brought over to fix it. Did not acknowledge my existence standing next to the register waiting, offered no explanation or apology, punched in a few things and walked away. I do not wish ill on any small business owner trying to make it, but they make it hard to root for them. They win, I do not want to drink Miller Lite down the street and listen to Blues music, so I keep coming back spending 8 dollars a pint when my heart tells me to never go back again. Longtable is Middleton's newest foodie addition, and it well welcomed. The service is fast and the food of good quality. I really enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich. The slaw on top was really nice. Companion had the Italian sub - it was as expected and substantial. The Frites were tasty - we really enjoyed the Curry Ketchup... nice kick and slow burn. The sides were pretty interesting. The garbanzo Bean salad is rich and satisfying. The Farro salad was my favorite of the two however. Huge tap and bottled beer selection and a decent wine selection. Longtable seems like its going to be a nice addition to the redesign of downtown Middleton. read more

I've been wanting to try dinner and beers here for a long time and finally had the opportunity this past Saturday night. We were able to walk in and get seated right away. It's a unique setting as far as seating goes but you certainly don't feel crowded or too close to the party next to you. Perhaps had it been busier that would have been different? The patio doors were open on this fall evening which we think contributed to the less than warm temp on our meals. We'd like to come back and give it another try as we were a bit underwhelmed in general. We collectively tried the smoked chicken bowl, the fish fry and beer cheese soup, and our dinner companions shared the brussel sprouts and BBQ platter. We heard the wings were good and spicy and they didn't leave much of the brisket behind either! For my part, the fish was a tad greasy and the pepper mill went into overdrive while it was over my plate in general, and the coleslaw was pretty boring. I loved the garlic aioli for the frites. Hubs thought the smoked chicken bowl was tasty, but again a bit on the cool side and he'd want to try the BBQ if we go again. What a tremendous beer selection! Wine too for those of you that don't care for beer. It's a cool concept and I wouldn't argue about going again but it wouldn't make my list of go-to's!! read more

Been here twice now in last few months. The service is awful. I get it, the attitude of service is changed, but I cannot stomach supporting this place. You are greeted with hostility, not an ounce of welcomeness. Short/curt, the two middle age males seem miserable and that being there is the last place they want to be. We waited forever for beers, didn't even get the option to order food as the server (Jeffery) had left our table before we could even ask. We are all about second chances, but after a similar experience again, we won't be back. It is now called 'rude-table'. Excellent beer selection. A handful on tap and a huge cooler of bottled beers-- all with a sticky note describing their style and taste. I could spend all night reading about all the local brews! On of the recommended the sour on tap and it was delicious! Everyone was very friendly and helpful!! As for the food I loved the fries and cheese curds but the bbq was just okay. Longtable is a unique concept with an open, urban-feeling environment. The food was very good and curiously served, for example our brussel sprouts came in a mason jar. Cheese and meats plate was wonderful after an agonizing back and forth of choosing cheeses (some available and some not). The seating is different as you will potentially share tables with other patrons. It's not a bad thing, just noteworthy that this is not a place to have an intimate conversation. I can see how it would be fun to "shop" for beer on the refrigerated wall filled with a vast and diverse selection of hoppy delights. I'd love to see a more interesting and diverse NA selection. Per the usual (Wisconsin restaurants in general), it was lackluster. read more

What in the world is going on here? Wait to be seated but have to go and get yourself water at the water station after they ask us if we would like a drink. Why ask? No ice. Can't have a burger medium rare-why? 15 bucks for meat and 2 cheeses. And the size was like a happy meal. Hipster restaurant gone totally wrong. No quality ingredients. Saturday afternoon on a graduation day. We were worried that we might not be able to get a table. But that wasn't an issue. No wait staff to serve you. You order your drinks (off the tap list or off their vast selection of fridge on the side) and food on your own. You take your drinks and number to your table and your food will be delivered to your table. Food options include sandwiches, sharable plates, soup/salad and appetizers. Not a lot of vegetarian choices, but some. If you are into a delicious quick bite, this is not a bad choice. Drink menu includes tap beers, bottled beers, sodas and some wines. My husband is a cider/Meade drinker and he was quite impressed with the options there. This is not a cheap tap house. The price is on the high end side. But not a bad place for a group of friends or family to sit around the communal table and have some fine drinks. read more

As a long time fan of the Brasserie V, I was looking forward to trying out their latest creation. The place was almost full on a Tuesday night. The food did not disappoint ... the brisket was delicious, as well as the burger my wife had. The sides were interesting; I liked my garbanzo based one. The cheese curds I ordered never arrived. I went up to the register and cancelled them, since we were done eating. The beer selection is awesome like I expected. Service and dining area upkeep were definitely lacking. We sat at a table that had several empty glasses and cans and discarded napkins. It seemed like it had been like that for some time. Nobody ever came to pick up, even after been there discussing beers and food for 10+ minutes. There were no napkins on the utensils bucket, nor there were any knives. Some knives arrived just went we were leaving 2 hours later. I don't want to sound too critical since I know they will get better, and it is a new establishment. I do plan to return! I am just not certain at this point if the level of "service" related to the counter approach can match the excellent food and beers available. I would rather see table service, even with the shared long table seating approach, which I liked. read more

This place is great at what it does! It serves nifty beers (and wines), charcuterie plates, sandwiches, soups, salads and small, tidy appetizers in a trendy environment. While we were there the staff spent a great deal of time on us talking about the place, its intent and its products. The customers all looked to be planted for some time, and a few were even playing games. I'm happy to welcome an establishment that welcomes the kind of customer who likes to park it for awhile. It was so bad, we couldn't even stay to order entrées. This was our second visit. Honesty, I am at a loss as to where I should I start. We arrived and found a spot, ready to begin playing the game we brought from home and drink a few beers, while noshing on some of the items we hadn't had the opportunity to try the last time we visited. This would not happen for us. I ordered one of their beers on tap and learned they were out of it and would have to pick something else. Ok, no problem, I did that. I placed an order for 2 appetizers and a side and waited for them to arrive at our table. Once the frites, lamb meatballs and garbanzo beans arrived we had a major surprise. First of all, the waitress who delivered them, did not deliver any plates. We asked for 3 plates and she told us they were "running low, I'll see if I can find any." She quickly came back with 2 plates. When we reminded her there were 3 of us she said they were out of plates. It should be noted that the business was not packed, there was plenty of available seating in multiple locations in the restaurant. We also needed silverware, asked for this too and she said "there's silverware right there" and pointed to a basket next to us, or where it's supposed to be, but it was empty. She realized it was empty as soon as she pointed and then said "oh let me go get some." She went and got some silverware and when she came back she didn't give them to us but instead put the three forks in the public silverware glass forcing us to get them ourselves. So much is wrong with this...I cant even. There were no, "I'm sorry's" or "I'll keep an eye out for a plate for you" or a number of possible polite common sense expressions that could have been said. Once the meatballs arrived, we realized that they were merely room temperature, even cold. We thought this was unusual. When I went to pay I was asked if everything was OK and I told the woman that I was surprised to discover that the lamb meatballs were in fact, served cold, and that I would have liked the menu to specify that this was the case. She said to me, "oh yeah, me too. I don't like them like that either. I would expect them to be a warm, hearty dish but they're not." She went on to explain that she's not a lamb fan in general, which did not make me feel any more assured and it did not make the meatballs taste any better. If indeed these meatballs are supposed to be served cold then this is a big fail. If these meatballs are not supposed to be served cold, then why did she think that they were? If she didn't think that they were supposed to be served cold then why did she tell me they were? I'm not sure what's going on here, but I know these meatballs are a big mistake. All in all, we just couldn't overlook the major mistakes from not one, but two of the service staff, and we certainly could not overlook the food quality. I haven't even gone into the three different sauces we ordered with the frites because that is a whole 'nuther long explanation, but two of the three sauces were flavorless (and that's incredible considering their flavorful descriptions). I'm writing this review from Longtable because I'm so dang excited to tell everyone how fabulous this place is top-to-bottom! The food!! Holy smokes. I had the smoked trout salad and farro side. So much flavor and texture in both. Farro was cinnamon/fall-esk, but savory - exactly as was described to me by my server/cashier. The salad was a touch heavy on the dressing, but when it's green goddess, you drink it up. Good portion of trout and the goat cheese brought it home. I loved shopping for my own beverage. A little unorthodox, but sometimes seeing and touching the can/bottle helps. It's well organized and a wide variety. Can we talk about the service?! Patrick was incredibly knowledgeable of the menu and very patient for a first-timer like me. My food came out incredibly fast, and again - the taste! If I didn't live in Indianapolis, this would be my jam every week. read more
