Well, I guess that is the case with quite a lot of stations, but the thing is that this is way out in the country, and if you are like me, and are just visiting, then if you miss the train then, well, you are sort of stuck here for the night (though there may be other options available). However, this station is fully staffed, and has some decent facilities as well, so I will give it credit for that.

I can't really complain all that much about this station, namely because it does happen to be in a…read morecountry town, and it does act to service the region thus making it easier, and cheaper, to get into the city. Sure, the trains don't pass here all that often, and do stop rather early as well, but the station is reasonably nice, and quite accessible as well.

Well, it looks as if this station has had a bit of a makeover, even though I the last time I went…read morethrough here I really wasn't paying any attention whatsoever. Okay, it certainly isn't a major station, but it does happen to be far enough out so that the only trains that don't stop here happen to be the V-Line trains. I'm not only to necessarily say it is a great station, but it is practical, even if not the most accessible, in the sense that you still have to manually cross the tracks as opposed to crossing by a walkway.

This railway station was surprisingly new, though it could have actually been one of those stations…read morethat was built at a spot where the housing developments were slowly growing, but pushing up the price of nearby properties. However, as a station it was actually pretty nice, and easily accessible as well. Also, there were a number of facilities here as well, including being near a shopping centre.

This is sort of an end of the line station, though you sort of can go further, but that would…read morebasically be on a steam train that doesn't run all that often. Anyway, the station it self is quite charming, located in the centre of town, and even though it is one of those sixties style buildings, it is pretty accessible, and has decent facilities as well. Trains are reasonably regular, but being an end of the line station does indicate that they aren't as regular as some.

The end of the Belgrave line. If you are going to Puffing Billy go to the end of the platform and…read morefollow the painted line past the old falling apart carriage to get there. To return just retrace your steps. You can tap in and out at the end of the platform with your myki. This will save you walking up and around. Clean station with good facilities and is staffed. Good bus interchange to get where you need to go.

The visitor centre is modern. You only get 50 mins if you're taking the return train which is too…read moreshort. There's an art exhibition here which is pretty decent. For a tourist place the cafe is cheap & pretty good. The chicken schnitzel Turkish was big & tasty despite not being 100% fresh & was only $15. The scones were a bit too light & yeasty & could be shorter but were only $12.

Well, this is basically the main destination for Puffing Billy, though the train does travel beyond…read morea couple of times. Most of the time though, the train will stop here, and then make its way back to Belgrave. The station is close to a lakeside park, and there are a few facilities here as well, including a kiosk, and a playground for the kids. In a way this place is the perfect place to jump off the train and spend some time, before making the journey back to Melbourne.

Ok, it's a train station, not the most exciting thing in the world but this one gets a lot of…read morethings right. Good bicycle access without having to ride on the road, bicycle parking built right into the station buildings, no hard to cross busy roads around the station (the one that would be a problem is closed permanently to cars!), right next to a big park, only 400m from two different schools... the list goes on.
