So you've toured castles, had enough of Lego, and want a day among the trees. Enter the Look Out Discovery Centre! The Centre combines outdoor activities -- zip lines, cycling, rambling, and so on -- with a science center that kept our crew entertained for the better part of the day. What's more, the cafe there opens at 7.30am and closes late -- perfect for any family to enjoy! There's also an excellent outdoor play area for the kids, with swings and slides and all manner of fun, so the parents can buy an ice cream and watch their kids run off the calories by proxy. read more

THE OUTDOOR PLACE!! The Look Out, is actually a large viewing tower, from the top of which you should get pretty good views of the surrounding area. Unfortunately the trees have grown somewhat since the tower was built and the view isn't quite what it could be. The Look Out Centre is so much more though. An indoor discovery centre contains hands on science for kids and is suitable for children aged from about 2 through to 11. There are special toddler days for per-schoolers. There's a gift shop, tourist information centre and cafe attached to the centre. The Look Out park is a large expanse of woodland which is ideal for making woodland camps and generally letting off steam. Excellent signed walking and cycling routes are provided as well as allowing good off-path adventure. The forest is mixed and there is always something to suprise. Bike hire is available (permits required) and there are often organised walks, rides and tours. Go Ape! have a facility in the forest and it can be fun just watching the participants. There are excellent parks for toddlers through to 7 and a separate park for 7+ kids. The equipment blends in well with the natural environment and is well cared for. Picnic facilities exist by the parks. The biggest problem on a good day is parking - it's very limited compared to the number of people wanting to use the facility and you might have to wait for a space, be boxed in or just left with a really awkward space. read more

The Look Out is a great place for young children to make camps and play in the playground. It is also fun for the older children, mums and dads to walk the dog or go mountain biking! Make sure you get a map as the woods are quite large and you could get lost if you do not know your way around. You can either take a picnic or visit the cafe. If it is raining families may like the science and nature exhibition and there is also a large tower to climb and view the surrounding woodland. The car park can get busy but I understand that the Coral Reef Centre car park can be used - which is across the road. read more

This area is great for walking the dog or Riding around on your bicycle, we go at least once a week as you never really take the same route twice :) i would advise you to grab a map from the shop if your the adventurous type and dont want to stick to the routes. and if its been raining for a few days before wear wellies (we once went on a very hot sunny dat but because of the rain 2 days before i ruined a new pair of shoes in a bog we HAD to cross!) read more

Great idea in a great location. Our 4yo was very interested. However, needs better heating 'inside'. They'd done their best, as the rooms were fine, but the larger spaces were freezing. Had a coffee in a drab cafe, typical of most leisure centres (is this place council-run perchance?). Prices OK, but we were done and dusted in 90 mins. read more

The Look Out discovery centre is set in 1000 hectares of woodland where there are cycle trails and an adventure playground. There are over 80 science and nature exhibits and a gift shop and tea room. It really is a great place to take kids. read more

Visited this the day after visiting Legoland, as we didn't know much about the surrounding area and wished we had spent our money here rather than at Legoland. Has indoor science discovery centre which kept 2 and 10 year old busy - think we paid 15 for all of us. Has tall tower with views of woodland. Has brilliant play areas outside - one for younger and one for older kids. Also lots of picnic tables although there is a reasonably priced cafe. Has cycle trail and bikes can be hired although they seemed quite expensive. Also permit is required if you bring your own bikes. Lovely woodland to walk around - was beautiful day when we visited so this was a great thing to do. Only downside was parking, but we persevered and found a space. Loads to do. read more

Excellent Cycle routes for the experianced or beginner cyclists -lots of good walks and also go ape is situated here -tree top assult cause good fun :-) can spend a whole day at the look out as childrens play area and also cafe and inside a discovery center with lots of fun things to do -you can also hire bikes here too read more

This place is great especially if you have kids. They have a great outdoor play park and if it's raining just go and have fun in the discovery center inside. Lovely for long walks. read more

A scenic place with a natural demeanor which is quite well aligned for having a long walk in. Plenty of different pathways to walk along and engage in the sights at hand. Cycle trails and an adventure playground ensure a very much family based ethic. read more

Some of the best singletrack mountain biking in the south east here. Be warned though it is not waymarked and therefore difficult to find. Ask other bikers (there are always loads in the car park) or go with someone who knows. There are plenty of forums on the net where rides are regularly organised. Don't forget to stop off at the lookout for post-ride tea and cake! read more
