The same can be said for the room; we had the John Calvin room. Liz, the owner, is excellent at making you feel welcomed from the moment you arrive. She provides recommendations for the area and her recommendation for "Crazy Horse" for dinner did not disappoint! It is a quiet setting, and a great place to get away. The only caveat is if you are on the first floor and there are people above you in a room, you will likely hear every time they walk. The floors, adding to the character, creak easily. Breakfast, was very good. We had a southwest frittata, fruit and a pumpkin donut (October). Coffee is ready before 8am. I love that it is Christian themed and the rooms are named for Christian Theologians. If you're looking for a quaint, special getaway, give Cottonwood Inn a go! Liz will take good care of you!

Although this was a little farther from downtown than we're used to from previous years, having a B&B be slightly out of town wasn't exactly a bad thing since we're truly removed from all the busyness of the downtown area. Liz was such a lovely lady who can cook a mean breakfast. My husband isn't the biggest fan of a quiche, but he even he ate the whole giant slice. Although our room wasn't the biggest, it was still very cozy and quaint, especially with the blue and white decor. Although the bathroom wasn't en suite, it was about 10 steps away and we didn't have to share. I loved having the natural lighting from the skylight in the bathroom. There was a reading area, a sun room, and other parts of the house we didn't even check out because we were so busy enjoying the town. Because of the location, you can't beat the price. We were fortunate enough to come across this elegant bed and breakfast while searching online for a last minute weekend getaway. Our dog shares the same name as this B&B so we took that as a sign that this was our place. We stayed in the Lilley Suite. It was especially beautiful. The bathtub is perfect. I've never left a review about a bathtub. This one is just exceptional in terms of how comfortable it is to soak in. We loved our breakfast and the coffee. Patrick, and everyone we met, were welcoming and fun to chat with. The dining room is so special! We loved the plants and the ambience. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. The owner and operator, Patrick, is a gift to the lakeshore community. The rooms are absolutely luxe, and each bathroom is equipped with an amazing soaking tub. All of my 36 guests who attended my intimate wedding could not stop raving about every single detail. Captain's Cottage is a quaint cottage located in the heart of downtown Grand Haven, and steps from…read morethe pier. The house is renovated, and can accommodate 4 guests in its Aftdeck suite. The house is divided into 3 different guest suites, but a large family could rent out the entire down stairs. There's also a driveway that has space for 3 cars (1 car per party). We had 2 cars, but had no problem finding parking across the street. We stayed in the Aftdeck suite, and it was spacious, and very clean. There was a king sized bed, and a pull out. There was enough room in the bedroom for an air mattress. The best part of this cottage is the proximity to the town. You are a short walk from everything. The Innkeeper was also very nice. My only complaints are there is no towel service, so you have to use the same towel all days you are there, or wash them yourself. And, it's an old house, so if your neighbors are loud, you can hear everything. This was only an issue the first night we were there. The next days the people next door were very pleasant, and abided by the "quiet time" rule that was in the handbook at the cottage. Quiet time is 11PM. Overall, I'd recommend this place to anyone! We will be going back next year!

It's nice having a small kitchen so you can cook a meal if you don't want to eat out all the time. Upon arrival there is a basket of snacks and the fridge is stocked with cold drinks. The Cottage is situated close enough so you can walk to the shops and restaurants or walk along the water. We chose to drive to the beach because of all the gear we had to bring. If you are looking for a nice quiet place to spend a few days I would definitely recommend this place.

My husband booked Tusken House #1 for several days when he couldn't find anything else in the area. There is a reason this was the only room left in town. We arrived after 11 PM as we took our time coming up and stopped at various towns along our trip from Illinois. The door was unlocked (as expected), all the lights were on, and our last name was written on the white board. I really didn't like that part due to safety. Nobody needs to know our last name and what is there to stop anyone from the street who knows the operations from entering and taking one of the two keys left inside? The "cottage room" had the smallest bathroom ever, right off the kitchen. There is no way two people can get ready at the same time. The curtains were wide open and were a complete joke. They were sheer, so everyone could see in while the lights were on. Not so much a big deal until we needed to get changed for bed, or dressed in the morning. The only two places to do that with privacy were the large closet, which was bigger than the bathroom, and the miniature bathroom, that is so small my 6th grader even had to dress in the shower. The main room had a chair that was filthy and it had a stain left from someone who needed a shower who instead sat on it naked. I'd leave it to your imagination, but I took pictures to post as proof. The futon was in worse condition than the one I had in my college days, but the main room was the only room with a window A/C unit and a ceiling fan, so that's where I slept. While some rooms on the website show ceiling fans above the beds, this is purposefully cropped because the bedroom was beyond stuffy on a hot, sticky summer night. My husband slept in one bed and my son in the other. They slept with the door open in hopes of getting the air to circulate into the bedroom, but it wasn't a large enough window unit for two rooms. Additionally, because this is an old house, the electricity should have been updated. Instead, there were multiple extension cords for the window unit and lamps. In the bedroom there even more extension cords for the lamps and clock, and no place to plug in a charger. It amazes me that this place hasn't had an electrical fire. It was actually quite worrisome. The kitchen had a coffee machine and I finally found coffee in the cabinet, but there were no coffee mugs. The toiletries included body soap and shampoo. No conditioner. They said they don't supply conditioner. What? I found that our when we had to call for a hair dryer that didn't exist either. The reviews all over the internet about this place rave about the pool. Well, the sold the pool last year. They conveniently did NOT mention this when my husband booked the room. The back of the house is gated off and locked with do not trespass signs posted everywhere. There was no mention of the pool in the note left on the desk by the keys, yet there is still a picture of the pool hanging in the main office behind the desk where we took the keys when we checked out first thing in the morning. The parking for this house had three spots as there are three different rental spaces. The people in the second unit had a very large pick up truck that was not parked in the center of their space and our spot mark for unit 1, has the back of the a/C unit in the way, in addition to needing to drive over the grass to get into a spot. It was useless. Thankfully there was plenty of street parking across the street. No car could have parked there with the window air conditioner in the way, not even a smaller compact car. Thankfully they found someone else to book the room so we weren't changed two more nights. We would have had the credit card company disputed it if they had. This was that bad. They are clearly hurting for money, selling the pool and several of the properties had for sale signs in front of them. We were lucky enough to find another room at the newly renovated hotel at a neighboring town. Same price with all the luxuries of a nice hotel and everything was brand new and super clean, plus a coffee shop in the lobby. This is by far the longest and most detailed review I've ever posted. All the reasons why are posted. If they aren't there, I've blocked them out. Don't make the same mistake we did.

The room was beautiful and had plenty of privacy, but it was also nice to spend time with the other guests in the communal spaces. Since there are two bathrooms for the two rooms to share (the third room for guests has its own en suite), there's no issue with sharing bathrooms or having to wait for others to finish. And the main bathroom for guests is huge with a beautiful luxurious tub which I thoroughly enjoyed. Every morning, Nicole prepares a beautiful breakfast - super delicious and thoughtful homemade meals. This alone really drives the value of staying here. Starting the day off with a wonderful breakfast and plenty of delicious coffee is fantastic. Spring Lake itself is also very cute, with lots of good shops and restaurants nearby and in the surrounding towns. Bella Mia is a great value, and a really special experience. The bar is fantastic, interesting drinks, and stellar prices during happy hour! Our bartender seemed discontent, like she was over it and didn't want to be there. Breakfast and coffee the next morning were also great - many my picky husband happy, and the horchata cold brew with almond milk fueled my entire day!
