The entire sales staff was so incredibly patient and kind to me. They might have noticed me every single time I happened by longingly looking at this beautiful necklace. Giovanni and Isabella are third generation and their family has been in the Bellagio and Lake Como region since 1910. That kind of longevity speaks for itself but let me add that rarely have I been treated so well by any sales staff anywhere in the world. They were patient and kind, funny and relaxed and let me come to the decision on my own without becoming frustrated at me. Thank you so much. After two uses the green coating started to wear and the base leather show through. I contacted Stefano at the shop who totally dismissed my issues and said I'd left it soaking in water which was completely outrageous given I spent a huge amount of money! He tried to sell my another bag but refused to acknowledge any problem. I am left with an expensive bag which cannot be restored without significant cost. This is an outdoor bag which should be resilient and strong enough to cope with weather conditions not something for display in a glass case. I bought an Italian product assuming quality and got a very poorly manufactured item rubbish quality and a complete rip off. No acknowledgement of customer issues and no customer service. If you are looking to buy proper Italian craftsmanship look elsewhere.

I was worried it was too expensive so discouraged myself and kept walking. The shops finished and I ended up turning back and slowed down as I approached the shop again. I stopped and gawked at it for what felt like forever.. finally I took the plunge and in I went. The man at the counter was very accommodating and helpful, explaining when it was made and where (70's Napoli), and how to claim duty free at the airport for it- all in English and so polite! From memory it was 700 euros but.. I got it! I've never gone one day without wearing it- it's like my best friend! They had soooo many wonderfully unique pieces in there, I long for the day I can go back and find another amazing gem.

Good quality pens, original oil paintings, jewelry, glassware, on and on. You could spend a great deal of time in here looking at everything. The woman behind the counter asked if she could help me and I told her I was interested in the glass plate. She went directly to the display in the shop and brought a large selection to the counter for me to select from. (This conversation was conducted in Italian but she did understand English) They came in several colors and a couple of different styles. I made my selection, she wrapped it in bubble wrap, I paid and was out the door in plenty of time to get to the ferry! I spied a very cute pair of earrings by the register and wished I had time to check them out further. Probably good I was in a hurry. We will be back to Bellagio in the Spring and I am definitely including a stop at this shop on my agenda.

My wife went in there on our first day in Stresa, after asking in the Tourist Office on the waterfront if any local stores sold luggage. (One of our large suitcases had lost a wheel and half its handle on the trip over from the USA.) Valentina, one of the owners and fluent in English, was so gracious and accommodating in showing my wife various pieces, then offering to bring in a Samsonite suitcase from their other store for her purchase the next morning. I don't know how Valentina could have been any more delightful to deal with, despite her protracted hassle getting "the system" to electronically accept our passport info so we could claim a refund on the VAT at the Milan airport. That was on our second day in Stresa. On our third and last day in Stresa, a Sunday, we were on the Lake Maggiore Express from morning through early evening. My wife kept commenting that she wished she had bought a very distinctive handbag in Casamonti that would be an instant and useful remembrance of our vacation in Italy, but she feared she had missed the opportunity. As soon as the ferry from Locarno docked at 19:10, my wife raced over to Casamonti because Valentina had told her on Saturday the store would open until 19:00 that Sunday. Valentina and her mother had almost shut the store, yet they welcomed her in just like an old friend and took the time to show her several purses. My wife was so thrilled to have another purchase from Casamonti. Although I don't think we will have the opportunity to return to Stresa, if we do, I suspect my wife will make a beeline to Casamonti!

Tacchi Luigi is located "Up the Hill" from the Bellagio water front. It is also known as "Bottega…read moredel Legno", and is apparently one of the oldest shops in Bellagio. It has been founded and managed since 1855 by the Tacchi Family. They specialize in various hand-carved wood items, including a very unique olive wood dish that I purchased. The selection is extensive and I thought that the floor view port (to some historical thing I'm guessing) and the wood working shop in back were pretty cool. The Family member helping me didn't win any awards for engagement, although Gayle thought he warmed up a bit as time went on. At the same time, he gave me some good tips on taking care of my piece and wrapped it for its home journey really well.
