This restaurant which is a mainstay of the food scene in Oslo was fun to eat at. The decor creates an eclectic and fantastical atmosphere and really has to be experienced. There is plenty of outdoor seating too. The restaurant is always busy and as such service can be a little on the shower side. I forget sometimes how this neighborhood restaurant just off the beaten path from the palace is so nice and quaint. Sunday night is still busy. Their special besides their regular menu and several set menus along with their reasonably deep wine list is lamb shanks. Sat at the bar for the first time and had shrimp toast as a starter and had an incredible meal of lamb shank over puréed mash potatoes, carrots, lingonberry's and au jus. All excellent. Please avoid at all cost tourist trap that, ripped me off at double the price i paid for the meal, be careful as the tip instantly comes up on the handheld payment system so in other places in oslo you enter the cost the hit ok, this is fraudulent here and i paid double by accident, When i asked to reverse the charge they said it was not possible so i said ok can i have a credit? Also the waiter said this is not possible either, so the waiter said send an email to Lorry's email with tour bank details and we agreed to settle of a refund of 1500 minus a 10 percent tip of rhe original bill of 3000 Nok anyway 5 emails later and no response whatsoever the sorry Lorry crew fleeced me of money, shane as its a nice spot but food is average and staff are woeful! The moment you walk in the door at Lorry there is a wam feeling. The deep dark interior mixed with a laughing group of people is always pleasant to my eyes and ears. I came here with a big group of people. We had made a reservation a month in advance for 20 people, and updated the list with 15 participants along with our food order. Lorry's was able to accommodate us by keeping the number of different dishes down to five, plus a vegetarian dish. Personally I was very pleased with their flexibility although it was at first very difficult to get a hold of them. This however might be because they were renovating and our reservation was for their reopening night. Overall however we were very happy. I know for a fact that taking the order for such a big group is tremendously difficult. Our waiter did a phenomenal job. She was patient, she joked, she took our orders, and she brought our drinks out, although not always right away. Given the circumstances of the big group, and the various payment types and so on, she did her best and that is all you can really ask for. As for the food, I do see a lot of mixed reviews, my personal opinion however is EXCELLENT food! My tastebuds were wowed by the deer filet, and everyone at our table praised the food. Our tabled had these five dishes: herb marinated lamb, deer filet, grilled beef tenderloins, catfish filet, grilled mountain trout. Also great selection of beer and wine! We walked over from our hotel a couple of backstreets away. The scene of the cross street and lighting at Lorry was very beautiful in the sunset. We were immediately seated and waited upon by two super awesome bearded servers. The fully-occupied outdoor seating area seemed understaffed, but the two of them made sure everyone was taken care of. We started off with the mussel appetiser, which was delicious, but more notable than that was the size of the dish!!! Two of us shared it and it still felt like I'd had a full meal before our main course was served (meanwhile servers are still being super attentive and courteous). We then moved on to our main course, which was amazing (and also oversized). I ordered Norwegian meatballs which came with a side of potatoes and berries (a favourite Norwegian side sauce). The food was just right - meat balls were not undercooked (as I've had in other places) and potatoes were of the perfect softness all the way to the centre. Not to be cliché, but the meal was very "meat and potatoes" - somewhere one would go for a hearty dish after a long day of work. Definitely channeled my inner Viking to tackle the task. All in all, everything was perfect and I'd definitely return next time I'm in the country. read more

Such a cozy bar and restaurant, I woke up from a nap at midnight and head there for a pint and comfort food. I've been travelling, service was prompt and attentive despite being very busy. I got greeted at the door by a bear on a piano, the deco was old school cabin charm, super cozy. I was mad hungry, so I went for the reindeer patty with string beans and fingerling potatoes, served with gravy and lingonberries, wash that down with a local lager. read more

Love this place. I haven't eaten here for a couple of years but it has always been one of those quirky and interesting places to take visitors. The only thing that has really changed its that we actually had fantastic service. I know, hard to believe. This place has always been known for a great beer selection, weirdly strange interior, great beer garden and terrible service. But we had friendly, fast and excellent service which was a brilliant surprise and made the whole experience different. This is definitely one of Oslo's gems and oozes charm, history and the highly unusual. Enjoy the burgers and the cheese plate. read more

Charming place, great interiors, outdoor seating and a comprehensive menu. But, I encountered unexpectedly rude service. Four of us, all Norwegians and men except me went in for drinks and I inquired about a Portuguese wine that was served by glass. I asked if it were dry or sweet. The male server tells me red wine is not classified like that only white wine is. I don't agree but I politely asked him how does he do it then? He makes a face communicating impatience. I wish I had been curt but I was in company so I said I do not like sweet wine and he replies then you are fine. The wine was okay, but the service rude not just slow or indifferent, Rude. Upon a suggestion for our hotel for a late night bite on a Friday my boyfriend and I dropped into Lorry. The service was so poor I felt the need to share my experience, American travelers beware. Upon arrival it took 30 minutes to request a menu after being told to seat our selves, we had to wave down staff to get any attention, the tHree waiters working the dining area simply ignored us, the three waiters stood at the entryway chatting and looking directly at me. When I was finally able to get some attention, still without a menu I finally place an order for a burger and 2 colas. My boyfriend and I sat for another 40 min without our sodas being brought out aNd still no burger. I attempted to get the waitters attention on again and was ignored, when I walked toward the waiters they walked away from me. My boyfriend and I left without food, the night was horrible, the most herendoussservice I've ever received anywhere in my entire life. This place is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside and the drink selection is huge. We started out on the patio and then ended up in an indoor veranda. The place is eccentrically decorated with out of the ordinary decorations like a giant stuffed giraffe and a boars head. Drinks were good but pricey. Good beer selection and nice atmosphere. We had a reindeer burger (which comes without a bun and with a rich gravy) and a Skagen sandwich (shrimp and smoked salmon in mayonnaise). The reindeer was dry and less tasty than I've had in the past and so nothing special (though my wife liked the gravy); the Skagen sandwich was quite quite good and definitely something we would order again. read more
