In short: amazing!!…read more In long: - Plenty of parking - Beautiful views, quiet, peaceful, relaxing (definitely great for meditation) - Theres a lot to see and experience, such as art installations, garden with signs identifying the plants, exhibits about the area's history/culture - Attracts a mix of wildlife especially birds - Inside and outside were clean and well-kept, including the restrooms - Friendly staff - A lot of seating available inside and outside - Easy access to trails and open space - Conveniently located within short driving distance to churches, shopping, fast food, etc. - COVID compliant by requiring masks, making hand sanitizer available, and limiting visitors to 5 at a time in the indoor spaces. However, water fountains were out of use because of COVID, so highly recommend bringing your own water/beverages.

What should we call this place? Ah, I dunno, how 'bout Open Space?…read more Let's hear it for miles of nothin', shall we? I don't know the history behind this particular slice of preserved river valley, but it certainly serves its purpose, A) providing wild critters a safe spot to cohabitate and B) the rest of have a good glimpse at what that looks like, with trails weaving the interior and perimeter of the plot, there's plenty of room to wander, here, and if you look close, plenty to see. Just adjacent to the parking lot is a nice visitor center, with a few activities for the kiddos and knowledgeable ranger-types ready to give you the lay of the land. Open Space hosts the occasional summer festival/educational class, so make sure to check out the schedule. Like the Petroglyph national monument and the bosque bike trail running to Alameda, this little slice of calm offers a great getaway from the bustle of Albuquerque's west side, which is consistently expanding and growing, and rarely paying attention to the speed limit on Coors. Just sayin'. Duck in here, it's easy to find, just look for the skeletal, colorful public art sculpture.

This is the best visitor center we have ever been to in our life. I use to work as an inspector for…read moreAmerican Express Travel which took me literally to every continent around the globe. Never have I met a visitor center staff as attentive and knowledgeable as Eric who was at the train center. Living in Santa Fe now we had no idea this jewel of a center was available until we picked up friends there yesterday. Without a doubt the man behind the counter knows his business and whoever hired him was very fortunate to secure his talents. There's a bike shop also next-door which I thought was a good idea for alternate transportation in the area. Santa Fe is such a fascinating city discovering new treasures at every turn. If you like trains which I do and you want any information on Santa Fe stop by the visitor center and check out the extraordinary selection of information options that Eric has available. One thing I would recommend however is that they install complementary Internet. While we were waiting for our friends my wife wanted to book dining reservations online, AT&T had a terrible connection. That is one thing that is needed throughout the historic district of Santa Fe, complementary Internet.

Inside the Santa Fe Depot, there is a small Tourist Information Center and it it packed with…read morebrochures and information for the visitor or traveler. There are tables with chairs inside to sit down and figure out what it is you might want to do in Santa Fe. Since it was very hot outside, I was also happy to see a cold drink vending machine and happily bought a Powerade to cool me off. There was one lady manning the desk there and fielding questions from the tourists. Unfortunately, a big sign noted that there were no public restrooms available, although I did see the employee give a key to one man who got to use the bathroom facilities there. Because this info center seems kind of smallish and caters to mainly train travelers coming or going, I had to knock off 1 YELP STAR. I wish it had some public restrooms that people sitting around and waiting for the Rail Runner could utilize.

The main downside during our visit was the visitor center toilets being out of order and being gravely warned against using the outhouse-style ones in between the visitor center and gas station...we went a couple miles up the road to some creekside camping and fishing access areas with permanent outhouses that were fairly clean for what they are. The visitor center was clean and welcoming with interesting items for purchase. You pay for the trail use pass here, and get a wristband. The trail isn't very long and it isn't particularly demanding. But the views and the landscape are gorgeous! The trail is well-marked and well-maintained...you would have to work hard to get lost. There are plenty of suggested photo spots and places to sit a spell. Highly recommend giving them a visit and giving them a bit of your money!

They had fresh bread baked from the traditional horno outside and I bought one ($8!) as well as got some beautiful stickers inside. They sell various knick-knacks and souvenirs in the shop here.
