And finding trinkets as gifts made wonderfully, and in a time capsule is always cool. We would've purchased more birdbaths and succulents except I had a dental cleaning approaching, across county line. This location on Lake Sherwood was advertised as being in Westlake Village in LA county. It's ventura county! Even the fire trucks off the fwy off ramp, were yellow Ventura County Firetrucks. Which I found odd bc I'm an LA county girl, raised here since my diaper days and I know LA county as well as my car GPS. Anyway, long story longer, we were charged LA county tax which is 9percent ish. When Ventura county tax is 7.25. Guys when attending estate sales check your zip code and actual county line maps. And charge the accurate tax amount. If we had bought larger items this would have made a huge difference!

John Moran auctioneers (Bob Cullen) got back to me saying they too could not identify the artist but they were very interested in putting the painting in an upcoming auction. I was totally interested in consigning. It wasn't my first rodeo as I sell vintage and sold through Swann in NYC. Swann has handled individual prints for me but not a painting. So I was hoping to find a local auction house for the painting to avoid shipping it. Swann charges 15% commission. I was waiting to hear back from Moran as I was planning to drop the painting off. That is until I heard their fee would be 35% plus a $50 fee for photography. To me that is highway robbery. I reached out to Swann as, at that rate, I'd rather ship it to them.

He provided a contract but never said when he needed it, and when I sent it several days before the agreed upon sale date and he said (well, yelled ay me actually) YOU WAITED TOO LONG! A professional would have told me what date he needed the contract by, or at least called and said "I need the contract, do you have any questions?" It's not as if we didn't meet and have several discussions about our agreement. Although I feel I dodged a bullet because anyone this unprofessional, I wouldn't want to do business with, and I found a better solution. I am guessing he found a better opportunity to treat someone this poorly.

Having known Kathleen for many years I was excited for opportunity to order a custom piece for a…read moreclient. What we got was anything but the beautiful pieces she shows in her showroom. I went to look at progress of piece, noting things needing attention. Told by Kathleen nothing goes out without her final approval. What arrived as seen below was shocking as seen in photos. Immediately after contacting Kathleen I'm told it is the delivery person's fault regarding the finish. I arranged a meeting with her and the shops manager. I proposed that she refund the client 50% of the cost and I would cover the the other 50%. This is because the client refused to accept the piece even refinished by Kathleen. Even after asking twice, are we in agreement with this proposal it was verbally confirmed. I requested in writing for the client what was agreed upon. After four days of excuses why I didn't get the letter I'm told that they can not do a refund. So not only do they not deliver the goods they lie to your face. I take care of my client financially as a professional. They refinish the piece adequately and I promptly have the piece picked up and donated to a good cause! The moral of this story sadly is don't do custom with Kathleen Spiegleman and her manager. They are not to be trusted.
