This is a lot like a non-chain Bev-Mo. You've got microbrews, spirits, macrobrews, and all types of nuts, cheeses, etc. Whatever you would get from a liquor store, they'll have it here. I was especially impressed with the beer selection. In a small town it is sometimes hard to get anything beyond Bud, Coors, etc. This place was a beer oasis for me.

We stumbled upon this place which is a bit further walk than the main part of town. If you head away from the main part (walk up the hill on the main street) you will see it on the right. It seemed to have better (earlier hours) than the other places in town. The sandwiches were surprisingly good. My wife had the Tuna Salad on Mixed Greens ($11.95) and was quite happy with it. I had one of their sandwich specials, which was the turkey, brie, gruyere, and bacon (with a mayo called "prickly pear jalapeno mayo) on excellent grilled focaccia bread. In fact, it was my favorite sandwich of the trip. We ate outside on the patio, which was nice. Although you order at the counter, they bring your food to your table (it was a bit slow) and you bus your table too.

The clerk than proceeded to tell us that we could buy their liquor, cigarettes and or perfume duty free. You purchase it, walk into Mexico and back out with it. Thought that was kind of weird. Took off and spent a few hours in Palomas, had some lunch and did some looking around at the few stores that were there. We compared prices and found that the prices were actually cheaper on the other side. So we came back into the US, stopped back in the store. Double checked again on how this worked, didn't want to purchase just to lose it. She reiterated again how it worked. We thought originally if purchased in the US, it would have to be consumed in Mexico. We each purchased one bottle of liquor and one carton of cigarettes. The clerk asked us to wait a minute, she ran into the back and brought out a few beer glasses, a calendar, and a few bottle openers. As we were leaving a security guard came up to us and gave us a ride in the golf cart back towards the border. She told us how far we had to walk back into Mexico before turning around a coming back. Just a few paces. No issues as we came back through customs.
