I came to Macomb for an event and asked the hotel clerk for suggestions for a non-chain restaurant. Los Charros was the first one he suggested, and I was in the mood for Mexican, so no other suggestions were needed. There are two locations in town, and I went to the one on East Jackson Street. I was immediately seated in a booth. Water and chips arrived before I could open the menu. The chips were excellent, and the salsa was quite good, though surprisingly oregano-forward (I'm pretty sure that was the flavor). It's like they replaced the cilantro with oregano. Unusual, but tasty. I ordered the Alambres dinner, and this massive plate of food instantly appeared. I don't know what kind of magic they have going on in the kitchen, but I've never seen dinner arrive that fast. Delicious rice (perfectly cooked and seasoned), a nice pile of lettuce, guacamole, sour cream, etc. But the star of the plate: lots of shrimp, thin strips of steak and chicken, sauteed yellow/red bell peppers and onions, smothered in a cheese sauce. All very tasty, perfectly seasoned and cooked. The cheese sauce was a little thin for me, but that's a very minor issue with this impressive plate of food (it was so much food that I ended up finishing it later that night in my hotel room - still good). I was seated at my table almost before I opened the Los Charros front door! These cowboys don't mess around. I mean, I was politely holding the door open for an exiting elderly lady, and as she passed, my server was halfway into the dining area, looking back as if I were dawdling too long. Hold on there, pardner, I'm coming! Seated now, and while the table was still being wiped down from the previous diners, my server handed me a menu and asked for my drink order. I looked at him like, huh? I just sat down! My fingerprints hadn't even soiled the menu yet! You know that look that a dog has when it's confused, well that was me. My drink choice, however, was easy. Since it was a Mexican restaurant, of course, I ordered a Mexican beer. A cold crisp Dos XX found its way to my table along with a basket of chips and a small bowl of salsa. The salsa was, eh, but ok, I've had better. I was hoping that it wasn't the same with the food. It was. I ordered the pork tamales. They were ok. But just ok. Uninspiring. I was disappointed, so I asked for the bill. It was in my hand in dos batidos de cola de cordero. (I'll give you a hint...bahhh...as in bah humbug!) Try a different spot. But if you don't mind food, that's maybe a step up from Taco Bell, then Los Charros is your place. Quick Tip: I found myself without any tip money, so I took off my hat, placed it on the table along with my unfinished beer, and went to pay the bill. My intent was to return with the tip. The purpose of the hat on the table was to let the server know that I was going to return. When I got back to the table, it was sparkling clean, my beer was gone, and just my hat remained. I had no sooner placed the tip on the table when a new group was being seated. It's like a fricken conveyor belt at this place. It's a good thing that I didn't have to get up during the meal to take a pee, or I may never have been given the chance to finish my dinner! I'm gonna be honest...I'm not much for Mexican food. I don't like corn, beans or green peppers (heartburn) and those three things are in most Mexican dishes, so I don't typically opt for these locations. I was going out with friends and they always want to go here so I caved since I usually nix this option. And again, I'm disappointed with coming here. I ordered the carne asada tacos, thinking it's steak, onions and cilantro in a tortilla, what could bad. They don't mention on the menu that it's a corn tortilla...which I'm not a fan of either. We were pressed for time so I didn't want to ask for a new order so I tried to make due and eat the tacos anyway. Couldn't do it. The tomatillo sauce was way too spicy. Ended up just eating my rice and the chips and salsa. One of my friends tried asking for queso for our chips at the beginning of our meal, but the guy kept bringing out the chips kept rushing away every time he walked by. There was also a family sitting behind us with a small child that kept kicking the seat and standing up and looking over the bench at us. Super annoying. read more

I went with a friend in with a cold or something different. I asked the waiter for here's recommendation recommendation between this and seafood fajita and he said this will be better 30 seconds later after putting my order in I decided I don't want to fish and wanted another type of seafood. He said it was too late. I received the food and it was nasty I feel like I was eating unflavored seafood with an oily based sauce that had no flavor. When we got the check he added extra cost for a lime and salt so that the chips came with without letting us now and it was going to be extra. Well, if you have a craving for Mexican and you are in Macomb, the choices are limited. This restaurant serves mediocre Tex Mex food at best. The chips were ok but the salsa lacked flavor. The meals were out very quick indicating that most was prepared beforehand. I got a combo.... Quesadilla, burrito, and enchilada. They all pretty much tasted like the same thing. Being Mexican I can say that I was pretty disappointed with the food. It's not Mexican food and doesn't have any of the flavors I'd expect. Please invest In training your cooks in using typical seasonings like cumin, cilantro, adobo, oregano, garlic, onion, chili powder, etc. the steak burrito, rice and beans were flavorless. The other dishes our party ordered were fish tacos served with a spicy ketchup like sauce. Fish tacos were bland and you can do better on the sauce. The pork burrito was slightly better but also lacked significant flavor. The refried beans were not tasty. Cook them with some onion, garlic salt and pepper. The rice might as well have been plain white rice. Follow ArnieTex on FB to get some recipe ideas and impart some flavor into the food. Service was slow. I think our waiter had too many tables to wait on. The constant hiding and taking out the broom and dustpan from behind a booth is really low class and annoying. This is a brand new mexican restaurant that just opened up a few weeks ago! The atmosphere is super nice and you can tell that everything is brand new! Also, the service was fast and friendly. I ordered the veggie fajitas and my boyfriend ordered the seafood molcajete. I gave Los Charros 4 stars because my meal was just average. Although, my boyfriend really enjoyed his meal (his was still sizzling as it arrived at the table)! I must admit, for Macomb, this restaurant is a nice addition! read more

No complaints here. Huge improvement over "The Ranch". They cleaned up the inside and did some fixing up. Friendly host and waitstaff. If you're doing the low-carb thing, order the shrimp cocktail. Huge huge beer stein full of avocado, tomatoes, etc. and a ton of shrimp. You won't leave hungry. One of the best restaurants in Macomb. When we first got there, service was great. We were taken care of well and everything seemed good. However, many red flags began to pop up. First, when we were served our food, two plates of rice and beans were dropped, and my friend an my jeans got dirty with beans. There was no apology from the server (he just smiled and walked off) nor an offer of a wet towel to clean it up until we were basically done cleaning (we had to use our drink water and napkins). Then, when i got my order of a burrito, it was an open on both sides burrito ... how am i supposed to eat a fully open burrito ?! LMAO. The meal that i got was $5.99. However, when we went up to pay, my total came out to around $12. NOT having that. I was charged $8.99 plus $2 extra for getting a different type of meat (steak). I dont understand the pricing nor did i pay that amount especially when i was not told the meat would be extra... I will not be returning to this restaurant.
