Santana's is your neighborhood hole in the wall with pretty decent Mexican food in Keokuk. We like to come here after our Sunday meeting with friends and guests from out of town and they are always able to accommodate our group size. My hubby and I usually get the Steak Fajita's with rice, beans, guacamole and flour tortillas and they give you plenty of food. I usually have to add a little bit of salt to my fajitas, but otherwise, it's pretty decent. They also give you a side of chips and salsa for the table. Christina has been our server several times and she always does a great job! Friendly, gets our orders right, and handles the lunch rush like a champ! All in all, Santana's is consistent and reliable, especially for this neighborhood. read more

This is a pretty solid option for lunch. I didn't have to wait long to have my order taken and the food came out pretty quickly, piping hot. Arroz con Pollo was the special. I subbed enchilada sauce for the cheese sauce and it was kind of bland. I loved the salsa though. It wasn't watery like most restaurants tend to have. All in all, not bad. read more

This restaurant is sort of homey and feels like a Mexican restaurant with Mexican colors on the walls. I visited one time when I was in town on business and I wasn't even in the mood for Mexican, but it was just about the only restaurant open on a Monday evening close to 8pm, only sit-down restaurant that is. First up was the salsa. This one is served cold and tastes mostly like salt and pepper, also garlic, with some tomato thrown in there somewhere. I ordered the beef fajitas since it's sort of hard to mess those up...and the price was very reasonable. Strike 1 - When the food came out, the server from the kitchen brought out 2 tables of food at a time and served the other single guy sitting near me my fajitas, and gave me his chicken dish smothered in white cheese. I had to tell them they got it backwards, but they had already placed both dishes on the tables...uggh...I was hungry, so I just ate it anyway. Strike 2 - Next, the tortillas they gave me had a dry hard spot on one side, so I had to remove that before eating.... Strike 3 - The beans are super bland. The rice looks very plain. They give you a lot of beef onion and peppers, but the beef is pretty low quality. Strike 4 - After the 2nd fajita, every bite I took just started tasting like salt! Yuck! I suffered through all 3 tortillas they gave me, and they were not the best fajitas by any means. Boy, I endured a lot of torture just to have a meal at a sit-down restaurant this evening, and I feel like I struck out 2 times while dining here, but it's all in the name of providing an honest review. read more

Impressive local family place on the north outskirts of town. Great friendly service--don't you love it when a business works to let you know they value you. And the food was just as good. Hot crispy tasty chips. Excellent queso. Really liked my pollo con chorizo --chicken breast was not pounded so thin that is was tough. No! the chicken was juicy and tasty. Some of the best salsa I have ever had!! Was in town for business and needed to find a place that wasn't fast food but not a long process as it was after 8:00. Even though it was about a 1/2 mile out of town, it was only a couple minutes from the hotel. It was not busy and they we're starting to clean up, but we're super friendly. The waitress was new and extra attentive. Huge menu, no the menus were really large. Not sure a group of 4 could have all laid a menu on the table. Chips and salsa came out quick. The chips were ok. I think they were from a bag, but served the purpose. The salsa however was fantastic. It had good flavor, enough heat, and was blended (not chunky). I was along way from home and a little off the normal path east, but would find myself here again for the salsa alone. read more

I'm allergic to pork and when I ordered a dish that on the menu did not say it had chorizo or any kind of pork in it, actually did and they served it to me. Only after eating a few bites did I start filling my lips go numb. I asked if there was pork in it and they acted like they were very happy that they were serving me chorizo for free in all of their dishes. I told him I was allergic and left the entire rest of the meal and still got charged for all of it. I left so I could go take medicine to counteract what was happening to me. When I told the woman I was allergic, she said "oh I guess we should tell people on the menu that there's chorizo in it." read more

We walked in and we're immediately greeted by a friendly server and sat us down. We had two other servers also acknowledge and welcome us. Very fun and friendly team! The queso is tasty. Clean and friendly but the food lacks Hispanic spicing. In fairness, this can happen when the primary customers prefer Americanized flavors. Shredded beef was heavily salted, but void of the normal Mexican spices which I'd normally expect. I hope they consider spicing things up a bit. read more

This was fantastic Mexican food. Service was good and they brought chips and salsa to the table immediately. Most of us had the fajitas and we all really liked it. We would order it again! This place was recommended by our hotel & we quickly understood why it's her favorite place. It feels like a family business - everyone was very friendly & welcoming. The menu had all the usual Mexican dishes, and several that I've never seen that sounded delicious. We had vegetarian enchiladas and chicken con queso- both were excellent. Just went to this restaurant last night located where OGO's used to be and was thoroughly disappointed. I realize they just opened,but in order to get customers you would think the owners would want to put their best foot forward. My wife and I ordered 2 taco's apiece mine being soft shell and hers were hard shell. My wife's had a small amount of hamburger, cheese, and lettuce. They hardly had anything in them. My tacos were the same ingredients but over small flour tortillas and opened like a tostada. We also ordered Pepsi and it was very flat. They are really going to have to step it up to keep their doors open, I can't vouch for the other dishes so I'll just leave it at that. read more

This is a great new addition to Keokuk. Although, having not eaten inside the establishment, only carry out, all the meals we've had were delicious. The portions are on the huge side.
