My 2 adult sons and I recently went on a 4 day backpacking trip with lost Coast Adventures. It was amazing! The guide Blu was full of knowledge on the trail and the area and its history. This was a first backpacking trip for all of us. The food he prepared was amazing. He was especially concerned with our safety and a fantastic story teller. I highly recommend this trip. Lost coast adventures is truly the only way to go if you are planning to hike the lost coast trail. Our group hiked from Mattole to Black Sands beach. This was made possible by the shuttle ride black sands to Mattole with lost coast adventures. Connor, who was our driver, was waiting for us when we arrived. He got us to our destination quickly and provided a ton of useful info about what to expect during our 3 day trek. Silvia, the office manager was also very helpful. She quickly responded to our emails even when the office was closed. She also accommodated our needy group of first timers above and beyond what is to be expected. I highly recommend the lost coast and lost coast adventures adventures! read more
Great tour guide company for hiking the Lost Coast safely. We didn't feel comfortable doing the Lost Coast Trail by ourselves and having these guides take us through this beautiful trail was really a amazing and fantastic. They were very informative about the local history as well. Highly recommend them!! read more

They left me stranded. I arrived early for a shuttle that never showed. Their offices aren't open when the shuttle runs, so there's no one to call. If you've taken time off work, and value time spent planning for a trip like this, do not trust this company. read more

Hi Ryan, our shuttle did run that day. We took two other groups that…
To backpack on Lost Coast Trail, you need to go there with 2 cars or take a shuttle, because the trail is one-way, 24 miles. My friends and I used this shuttle. The driver showed up on time, very friendly. The van was comfortable. $50/person. The drive was about 1hr an 45 min. A little expensive, but nice. read more

Thanks to Lost Coast Adventure Tours for another successful shuttle trip from Shelter Cove to Mattole trail head. The drivers are all really considerate and safe drivers, this was my third trip to the Lost Coast Trail and I couldn't have done it without this service. I feel like such a jerk for forgetting to bring tip money. Cheers read more

Hiked the LCT over the Labor Day weekend this year. Filled up a shuttle with Blu at Lost Coast Adventures. He was responsive during the booking process, on time to the Shelter Cove trailhead, and provided lots of good tips for the trail including tide books as well as pleasant conversation during the drive up to Mattole. Highly recommend booking with Lost Coast Adventures. read more

Took them for a trip last week. Our driver was Eric who was very friendly, he found us in the parking lot while we were still getting ready. Smooth process to book and no worries. read more

My brother took a hiking trip last week with his beloved dog, but his paws were hurt on the rough terrain and on Day 2, Wednesday, my brother had to decide whether or not to power forward, or go back. Luckily he had a Garmin GPS device that he could text me from (there was no cell phone service), so I called the office and sent a follow-up email to see if there was a shuttle coming in. Janna, the office manager, was a life-saver, and I can't thank her enough for getting back to me asap. My brother decided to go back over familiar terrain and had to get to the meeting spot by 3:30 pm that afternoon, or wait a day to catch a morning or afternoon shuttle on Friday. He decided to try to make the Wednesday afternoon shuttle, and Janna was able to communicate with him through his GPS device in case he was running late. You can only imagine how worried I was, since I was in Chicago, but being able to communicate with her and knowing that she was so willing to help out put me at ease. Thank you again for going above and beyond the call of duty! read more

A long overdue review of a truly lovely experience. My best friend and I hiked the LCT last summer and had the pleasure of driving up the coast with Blu and a new driver he was training, who was lovely and sweet, and whose name I cannot for the life of me remember (please forgive me). Blu gave us insider tips on the trail and let us in on his favorite camp spots. He told us about the projects he's undertaken to restore the lower half of the trail (which rarely gets hiked and is fairly heavily forested), and gave us the best Lost Coast advice we got: take your time!! We spent five days out on the trail, in some of the most beautiful and pristine wilderness I've ever been lucky enough to see. Taking this shuttle means you have locals who know that terrain backwards and forwards start you off on your journey. I don't know that I can think of a better way to start a trip. Also, don't be a dingus like I was and bring cash for gratuity! read more

Lost Coast really was amazing for helping make a trip on the Lost Coast Trail a reality. I was bike touring so I needed to rent a backpack which they arranged and had it waiting for me when i arrived. They also were nice enough to store my bicycle while I hiked. i should also say that Janna was great at answering questions and returning phone calls. To top it off, our shuttle guru, Mike, offered to give me and my bike a lift up the 2000 foot steep climb out of town. Totally recommend this crew! read more

$100 per person and $300 minimum. Yikes. With the other shuttle company not operating right now, this ruins the entire trip we had planned.

Okay, so I didn't book this company personally, but I did hike alongside their group for parts of the lost coast trail. As far as full service guides and shuttles go, Blu was a very thoughtful and capable leader and logistician. If you have a larger group or just need a shuttle to trailhead, give these guys a shout. read more

Did my 5th Lost Coast trip last week (April 2016) and was able to hook up with Blu for the shuttle to the Mouth of the Mattole. Blu was right on schedule and his van was perfect for our gear and group of 4 (he can fit many more). We had a great discussion during the 2 hour shuttle ride on all things Lost Coast. I highly recommend Blu and his Lost Coast Adventure Tours to anyone who wants to experience the Lost Coast and Northern California redwoods. read more

Blu and his crew were courteous, knowledgeable, and went the extra mile for my girlfriend and I. I made a couple of timing mistakes on this trip. So, despite not planning out everything on the trip to a T, Blu and his driver Mike helped make the hike and shuttling issue no problem. I can't thank him enough for making our life easy despite our planning flaws. These guys are a class act, and were good, helpful people. Thanks you Blu, Mike Kim and I appreciate it, Tom read more

When I called with questions, I spoke to a very nice lady. As a result, I was completely unprepared for the horrendously rude shuttle driver. Wade was a complete jerk from the moment he opened his mouth. First, he wanted me to write down my information on a notepad (I'd rented a bear can). I tried to tell him at least three times that I had the form from the website in my backpack. He refused to listen to me and made me write my info on his notepad. In the interest of full disclosure, he did apologize when I handed him the form later. The fact that he just refused to let me speak or retrieve the form helps paint the picture of my entire, horrible shuttle ride. Wade doesn't let other people speak. He doesn't listen when they do and he only seems interested in listening to himself speak. Wade wasn't interested in learning about the people in his shuttle. If he'd known he had a federal park ranger in his van I wonder if he would have been even more hostile and derogatory towards the federal government? Would he see the irony? He has a job driving this shuttle because people want to hike in the beautiful, federally managed, Lost Coast. Does his boss know that he said to a shuttle full of people that as long as he changes his hat and stands 50 feet away from the van he could sell marijuana during his breaks? Does the BLM know that a company that has a permit with them employees such an idiot? We were subjected to one hour and 45 minutes of Wade talking. When I tried to get a word in, he very rudely told me to stop interrupting so he could answer my question (which he never did because he didn't give me a chance to voice it). He berated me for interrupting for at least 2 minutes before launching into a lecture about marijuana cultivation. I don't know how he was able to breathe, he didn't pause at all. No one spoke except Wade, for at least the next 30 minutes. No one could have without interrupting. As well as learning all about growing marijuana, Wade told us his view on Meth (not bad for you, unless you're already on the verge of a mental break down, that's when you lose your teeth and become addicted. The dentist in the shuttle actually did interrupt to set him straight on that point) and heroin. Wade thinks the next boost for Shelter Cove's economy should be the growing of heroin (it's actually poppies, Wade). I couldn't help but wonder, as we careened down the narrow, winding road to Mattole, whether I was safe with Wade behind the wheel. How many of the drugs he'd mentioned were coursing through his bloodstream at that moment? Wade did not, in any way, instill confidence or a sense of safety. I hardly spoke for the rest of the trip, and not one more word to Wade. I couldn't believe how unprofessional he was. He said the most ridiculous things. One of my favorites was as we were unloading at last. He said his boss wants him to hike the trail so he could talk about it. His boss sounds brilliant. I might have enjoyed Wade's diatribe if it had been about something interesting, like the trail I was about to hike. I was so upset that I told Wade, at the end, that he's an asshole. He tried to argue with me, but I was having none of it. No, I'd listened to Wade long enough. It was my turn. I repeated my opinion and walked off. My fellow shuttle passenger later told me he was really glad I did that. All of us, as we hiked sections of the trail together, talked about how horrible Wade was. I actually feel a little bad saying that, because Wade will see this. But he could take this critique as an opportunity for improvement. Let the other people talk. Enjoy meeting people from other places who have come to see the beautiful area you live in. Don't talk about drugs, it doesn't belong in the professional setting of a shuttle bus driver. Don't make me question whether or not I'm safe in your shuttle because you might be impaired. If you must talk about marijuana, limit yourself. Check the clock. Aim for no more than 5 minutes, then stop. Let people ask questions. If they don't ask questions, they're not interested. Move to another topic. Let others speak. You tried your best to ruin my amazing backpacking trip. You failed. But you were still an asshole and I will never recommend your shuttle service to anyone (which is ironic since a BLM Ranger actually recommended this company to me). If I have any friends who want to do this trail, I will personally drive them and pick them up at the end just so they can avoid the negative experience I had. read more

My son and I hiked the Lost Coast this past week and wanted to take a shuttle to Mattole, but heard that it was really difficult to book a shuttle. I contacted LCAT and Blu responded to my email within a day or two. He offered me two prices, one with another group, which was less expensive than my son and I taking a shuttle by ourselves. We chose the group option and saved $100. We arrived at Black Sands a little late, but Blu was already there. He allowed us time to gather our things, then took us to the Bluffs and showed us the portion of the trail that we could see, where to ascend up to the parking lot at the end, and focal points to watch for. We only had one other passenger and her dog, and when she arrived we drove up the coast. I get carsick so I was worried about a white knuckling drive, but Blu was amazing and I wasn't bothered by the drive at all. He also told us more important information about the hike as we drove to Mattole. I would highly recommend Blu and his shuttle service! read more

Aside from some miscommunications due to spotty cell service, we would not only highly recommend, but think you are doing yourself a disservice, by not using these guys to get you to your "Lost Coast Adventure! They were very responsive and flexible. We were so glad we had them take us to Mattole Beach, because the road was in such a disrupted state! Plus, what a drag to end a beautiful trip with a 2 hour drive, at least, to get to Shelter Cove, and even more grueling if you are not staying at Shelter Cove! Michael, our driver that day, was very personable, and informative! We knew not to bother the poor guy who sold his land to the state, but still lives on the beach, unlike another guy we saw, bugging him! We also recognized the landing strip when we had almost reached the end of it! It was cool, knowing ahead of time, what to expect! Blu and Michael gave us such valuable information! Plus, they give you a tide chart, and for less than what I paid at REI, the same map of the King Range. Another big plus, getting to meet some of the people who will be on the trail with you! Do yourselves a big favor, and have Lost Coast Adventures get you started on your trip! read more
