Visitor centers are well stocked, have clean bathrooms with ample parking. Volunteer staff are well informed and helpful. Trails are well marked and very clean. Surprising lack of random trash so volunteers and visitors do a great job. We have learned over the past few years to avoid the crowds and cost of visiting National Parks in California when we are truly blessed with such exceptional California park options. This park is amazing and fascinating with manageable visitor sizes. Take the time to experience the area small towns too!

My destination was the Tall Tree, and I passed miles of banana slugs, moss, lichen, spring wildflowers, and the refreshing surge of Bull Creek with its turquoise hues. The park was far from crowded, and I was pleasantly surprised to see Park Staff tending the maintenance needs (weed abatement). I felt safe & incredibly relaxed on the trail. There are over 100 miles of trail in this park and plenty of river access, providing something for everyone. If you only drive through the Avenue of the Giants, it will be time well spent in this gorgeous paradise.

We ended up camping at Richardson Grove State Park about fifteen minutes further north on highway 101. There were ample sites to select from in mid November. The sites were roomy with beautiful young Redwood trees, fire pits, flush toilets, and water. The campsite was lovely, but the road noise was significant. It cost us $35 for one night. Firewood was $8. The temperatures were warm enough to wear just a fleece jacket sitting by our fire, but it rained at night. I'm not sure what campsite the previous review is referring to, but there are other campsites close to the Smithe Redwoods State Natural Reserve. Perhaps he stayed at the nearby Standish Hickey State Recreation Area which does have campsites.

They provide activities for the children and guided tours at Cheatham groove. Their Jr Ranger classes are very educational. Ranger Kevin makes the classes very exciting. His enthusiasm makes you want to like insects. Also, it's awesome to learn about the redwoods. The campsites are very small and are close to each other. Some sites are right next to the road. The road is kinda scary, so I do not recommend the sites next to the road. The traffic noise wasn't bad. They have two restrooms with 3 stalls for both women and men. The restroom farther from the visitor center has 2 coin operated showers. So don't forget to bring quarters.

People come from all over the world to experience this, I'm fortunate enough it's my "backyard" so to speak. The amount of science and engineering that went into making this is next level. (So is the upkeep which is so interesting to watch if you happen to be there when routine maintenance is needed) Several feet above the forest floor you get a perspective unlike anything else Ive taken siblings, cousins, friends and their kids, and honestly anyone who wants to come with me I love the zoo, I love the skywalk. Spectacular view for a girl from LA…read more I planned a roadtrip to visit all the gloomy coastal cities up north and this park beach truly delivered. It is nothing like the beaches in SoCal which is everything that I wanted to experience. I enjoyed how cool the weather was and the smells of the clean, crisp air. It was just under $10 to visit for the day and we spent about an hour solely taking in the views. Overall, highly recommend if you are in this neck of the woods.

If you're looking for a dip in the ocean this is not the spot for you, as the waves are pretty big and can be dangerous. As for rock collecting are some beautiful jaspers, agates, jade, and others. There's also a lot of cool driftwood, although you're not supposed to collect it. This visit was the first time I explored some of the trails, which were super cool and worth it. Wedding rock is a must see! I'd love to stay in one of the small cabins or dry camp here one day, but for a small fee of I believe $8 you can spend the day here. I highly recommend it!
