The Lost Dutchman Coin Shop is a great place to shop for all kinds of coins, famous people autographs, and historical artifacts that you don't see every day. The staff are knowledgeable and courteous. The Lost Dutchman has been around for decades which tells you something about their commitment to their patrons. They have customers who are second generation collectors, but it is just as likely to see someone who has just learned about coin collecting and has wandered into the store for the first time. Came here recently and had a great time poking around at all the awesome history this place holds ("Rare Coins" in their name is very fitting). They also had beautiful silver, gold and copper bullion! Lost Dutchmen especially had an exceptional amount of high-quality constitutional silver coins, which I'm all for that. Their prices were better than any major bullion website, eBay, etc. that I've ever purchased PM's from, too... The 5 older dated "American silver eagle" coins I got from them would've cost me A LOT more online. Just goes to show that we all should support local businesses that offer great stuff, and to never assume that online is lesser priced!!! Love my local coin shop!!! Only complaint would be the hours this store has, but that's my own personal schedule's fault - NOT their fault. Spencer's customer service was excellent as well + had a great time talking shop with him in general. Looking forward to my next big silver stack purchase day coming soon!!!! We needed some quick cash for our ever ridiculous electric bill. I made an appointment and took in a bunch of random coins my mother had collected before she pissed away. I met with Spencer who was very friendly and explained their pricing methods on everything. At no point did I feel like I was being taking advantage of and I thought he gave very fair prices on all the coins I brought in. Uh the big guy with the mustache and the gotee or whatever rico suave thing hes TRYING to have. He didnt even look at the coins i brought in some of em cost up to 12 dollars. Looked at one coin. I drove 46 minutes to get told "hm not a lot of value here." "Besides this one its 3 cents." Not helpful. Very rude. Last customer should be just as nice as the first. read more

The coin shop staff also has amazing recomendations. Matt, one of the staff, co-runs a podcast called The Coin Show Podcast, which informs listeners about recent coins news among other topics. They offered to show me a very rare Continental Currency (which I think is long gone from the shop) which they knew was way out of my price range. They did this out of their friendlyness. read more

The Numismatist runs an internet podcast show so it's pretty obvious that they practice what they preach. I might be a bit partisan because I have done business with LDRC online before, but a chance trip to Indy and a free couple of hours persuaded me to visit their store for the first time. It is kind of curiously situated right next to a beauty parlour. When I was there in the middle of the day they had several people assisting customers. I cherry picked their treasure bins for several goodies and even sifted through some stuff that just came in over the counter. I observed other buying and selling transactions and was impressed that they are fair both ways, giving a good purchase price to sellers and selling at fair prices. After gathering up the sundry coins I picked out of their bins they totaled up the cost for everything and I was pleased that the cost came in under what I would expect to pay. I must admit I wonder that they salt goodies into the silver and foreign coin bins because I found some goodies worth a shot at TPG grading. Will definitely be back, hopefully soon! read more

It's a typical coin shop, the way I remember them from junior high school, with the regulars who hang around, like it's from another era, before people did their socializing online. They seem to treat everyone well-- at any rate, they treated me well, and when I've gone to shows, I've found that many dealers refuse to treat women as serious collectors. But this place has always dealt very fairly with me. The owner pays top dealer prices when he buys-- and if you are selling for credit (that is, you are selling and buying at the same time), he gives a little more. He also gives nice discounts when you buy a lot at once. They stock the rainbow-- he has the box of "cull" coins that are great for young children with a budding interest in collecting, for whom a large cent of any year, in any condition, is fascinating. He has gold double eagles that are beautiful; rare date US coins you have been looking for, for years; and common date coins in great condition, for people putting together full sets or type sets. Also, some foreign coins, including vintage and even occasionally finds like foreign proof sets, and a little currency, although I have never collected this. If you collect only currency, it might not be a big stock, but if you have a side collection, it might be great. Of course, they have the Whitman, and Dansco books to thumb through, and don't price up the hard-to-find ones. Of course, they stock all the folders, albums, envelopes, etc. you need. They are happy to let you look as long as you want. They are exactly as helpful as you want them to be. If you are looking for something specific, they'll go though stock trying to find it, but if you just want to browse, they leave you alone. My sense is that they would help newer collectors, and not take advantage of them, although I have no personal experience. I have witnessed a couple of times people bringing in a valuable coin they didn't know was valuable, when they were just looking to sell some things that were gold and silver; he informed them each time what it was, and gave a fair price. My only caveat is that the owner frequently goes to shows, and takes a lot of the inventory with him. I'd advise always calling first before going over to make sure it's not a day when most of the stock is at a show. Enjoy. read more

Call around, and confirm with other gold-buyers, but you'll get a good deal if you're selling. They paid me 96% of spot-price, for a non-collectible coin, which is a tad better than at jewelry stores. This is not a Jewlery store per se, that's just the category that best fits. EXCELLENT & HONEST BUSINESS! I have to say I got all kinds of prices from various "coin buyers" or "cash for gold" operations.... who offered me half of what Matt did or less. He wasn't looking to rob me blind like the others or buy "cheap" and look up the values later..... but rather gave me a very fair price for the coins. Matt actually took the time to identify each of my rare coins and offered me much more than everyone else. Other places are looking to sell them for a quick flip but you can tell he takes pride in his inventory and loves his coins and actually operates a retail business where he has customers looking for these coins which is why he's able to pay more the others I've talked to. I have to say I met him online and wish there was a coin dealer with his integrity in my area... but I am happy to do business with Matt in the future and anytime I have a coin to sell, he will be the first person to know about it. read more

I decided not to visit the lost Dutchman. I found a shop that was closer to my location that was good to work with.

I was thoroughly impressed by their knowledge, honesty, and kindness. As a hobbyist, I went in trying to get a feel for the net worth of my assets, and by the end, I received a deeper understanding of the coins I brought in, which is ultimately what I wanted. Also, when I asked about how to preserve the metals of the coins, they gave me directions on the best ways to, as well as gave me some extra cleaning materials that they had, for free. I cannot rate these guys high enough, if there was a 6/5 rating, I would choose that. read more

Complete BS. Place is a dump. My coins were valued by a dealer. Much better then your shop. Knows what there worth. Any place that sells coins or deals w / gold - silver , shouldn't be in the same building as a Laundry Mat. .If I wanted to get ripped off - there are easier ways.
