This review is for Lost Hill Lake's glamping experience. They offer some very unique glamping experiences. It took me a while to post this review because I did not want to let the secret out before I made my next reservations.
You can rent a cool bus, a VW van, a house boat or some campers that have been converted into sleeping quarters. Some of them have their own out houses, camp fire pits and kitchenettes. For those that don't there is a shared kitchen and out house on the grounds.
The camp ground has a decent sized lake with a shelter that overlooks it. There are picnic tables under the shelter to sit and eat or just hang out. Some of the other amenities that you will find on the grounds include hiking trails, canoes, kayaks, corn hole boards, a small playground and a tree swing.
There is also a big blue trailer with games, toys, fishing equipment, bikes, pogo sticks, life jackets. All of the equipment is pretty worn. I would recommend bringing your own. The equipment in the trailer is a nice gesture and serves as a good backup though.
Checking in and out is easy. You just go to your unit after 3. We were the only one checking in during our visit, so they allowed us to check in early. You just follow the instructions they leave you to check out (take out trash, turn off A/C and/or heat, pull all linens and leave them in a pile on the bed). They ask that you bring your own towels and blankets with you. I would suggest bringing your own fire starting stuff such as a lighter and cardboard/news paper. They have some matches and news paper around in fire starter kits, but I had to go on a scavenger hunt, because my unit did not have any. A flashlight is a must too.
We stayed in the Sunshine Schoolie in the off season. This is the only unit that has a hot tub. All the units have AC and heat. We lucked out and had really good weather during our visit. It was a bit chilly at night, but the heat kept us warm. They provide you with a small bundle of wood to get your fire started. Additional buckets of wood is $5 per bucket. They also have ice (in a freezer at the main house) and ice cream (in a freezer under the shelter) available for purchase via Venmo. We brought hot dogs and corn on the cob that we cooked over the camp fire for dinner. It was delicious I must say.
You will see a couple of towers in the lake that would be awesome in summer lake swimming and activities. I saw a bunch of clams in the water, but did not see many fish, even after throwing some bread in.
The site has a trail that leads to Thinking Rock, that overlooks the valley. The trail has a steep hill and goes about a mile or so. I would only recommend it for those with moderate hiking ability. The view is awesome though and is definitely worth checking out.
My family had a great time here and I highly recommend checking this place out. It is a laid back spot and provides a chance to disconnect from the world for a bit. I had spoty cell phone coverage while at the camp (Verizon), but that did not bother my much and I actually preferred it. I took the time to sit out and relax. Now if I could have only gotten my littles to put their iPads down. read more
