    Bugs on mantle
    Julia G.

We didn't have the best experience in Cabin 6. There was a pretty disturbing incident, and Trent Weseman, the manager told us he'd discount our stay, but wasn't available at checkout and changed his story when we finally talked to him on the phone. Read about the insect infestation under "Now for the bad." THE GOOD The staff at the resort are responsive and cordial--not overly friendly, but accommodating and professional. The boat rental manager is super friendly and helpful. The grounds are kept clean, pit toilets cleaned daily and have hand sanitizer. The showers are private and very nice. Hot water comes quickly. Cabins: Our cabin, #6, has 2 bedrooms, a fireplace, a nice wood table with 2 benches, a couch and a chair with a reading light. The kitchen has dishes, glassware, utensils, flatware, pots, skillet, and a baking sheet. Appliances include a microwave, toaster, coffee maker, a gas 4-burner range with oven. Both bedrooms have 2 windows, a comfortable bed for 2, a clothes rack with hangers, and plenty of electrical outlets. Bedroom 1 is slightly bigger with a nightstand. No nightstand in bedroom 2--very narrow space on both sides of the bed. See the Bad section for more. The lake: Beautiful swimming and boating--no motor boats, so that was nice. Gorgeous views of Mt. Hood from the middle of the lake and the day use areas (a 5-minute walk from the lodge). There is a great walk around the lake with a well-maintained trail. Now for the bad: The insect infestation : Cabin 6 has an unknown flying insect infestation every day around noon. It is not insignificant--there are hundreds. They crawl in from a crack around the fireplace and cover the windows and mantle. It is pretty disgusting and disturbing (see photos). Trent, the manager, offered us 2 rooms in the lodge, which have running water, a real bathroom with flush toilet and shower. However, they are dark and at the back of the lodge. The whole point of our trip was to be together with our friends playing games, visiting and sharing meals together. By the time we checked out the lodge rooms and got back to the cabin to figure out what to do, the bugs had died, so we swept them out and decided to stay in the cabin. They came back the next day too. Trent also offered us a boat rental for free, but we also declined it because we brought our own boat. We spent a lot of time talking with him about how to discount our stay, and he said he could discount us the price of a boat rental, and said "don't worry, we'll make it right." Trent wasn't there when we checked out, and when he finally called us back he reneged on his promise to "make it right." It's really disappointing to be lied to, and my husband wasn't going to get into a futile and heated argument with him. We paid $1087 for 3 nights, and when you have something like this happen you expect to be compensated somehow. The NOISE: In the lodge and cabin area the generator for the resort runs constantly and it is LOUD. You are never listening to nature--there is a constant humming/whirring from the generator. You can get away from the noise if you are further away from the lodge and cabins. The yurt areas are quieter, and there are camp sites far enough away from the noise. The view: Cabin 6 faces a huge graveled parking area--that is your view. Trees obscure the lake. Cabin 8, the largest, has a nice view of the lake. Food prep and cleanup (specifically for cabin 6): We arrived on Labor Day and the restaurant had stopped being open during the week. We brought our food, so it wasn't an issue. There isn't room to clean dishes in the cabin. We cooked 3 meals a day, every day. We had to set up a dish washing station on our outdoor table. I had brought a large pot, so we kept water warm on the stove. A note about the toilet/sink area: the only way to turn the water on and off is on the BACK side of the sink about 18" off the ground-take 2 people. Also--bring a bin to put your dishes in to carry up to the sink. A porch setup works as long as it doesn't rain. There's no room for an outside canopy. We won't be back.

We arrive to set of amazing looking cabins. Little did we know it would not be a weekend spent away in a cozy cabin it would be much more like tent camping. There was no heat or insulation in cabin 7. A tarp was the only thing keeping the roof from leaking. The floors are peeling up at all edges/corners and they are squishy as well as uneven. If the sun is not out it is very dark. When we went to ask about the heat they did nothing other than tell us that peeling up at all edges/ corners and they are squishy as well as uneven. If the sun is not out it is very dark. When we went to ask about the heat they did nothing other than tell us that the tarp had nothing to do with the heat and that the cabin was due to be restored in a few years. Make sure you adjust your expectations, know that the cost is a donation to their renovation NOT an investment in a relaxing weekend getaway.

Parking can be a trip, but there are always people leaving, so you'll get lucky. The grill at the general store has yummy food (albeit, nothing healthy) & it's reasonable and quick. If parking sucks, hang out and get a burger and fries, then drive around after prime lunch time and you'll find a good spot. Compared to Trillium and Frog Lake, Lost Lake runs supreme. The water is clear, there are plenty of cool launch spots. Some primo spots with benches and even space for a hammock & chairs. You'll get a better view of Mt Hood once you're in the middle of the lake or near the cabins, and it makes you just want to peacefully float. Excellent kayaking/paddling spot, even on a busy day. $11 day use fee, or use your NW pass. Ignore the entry peeps and drive past the entrance parking.

Lost Lake is amazing place to visit. We booked a lodge room for 4th of July weekend and it was totally worth it. Nothing better then having your own bathroom on a busy weekend . The room was in great condition it was clean and we'll kept. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. There is a microwave, small stove and sink in the kitchen. The bathroom was clean and the shower had good hot water. The lodge has all the goodies for travelers and more. Friendly staff all over the place. Espresso available and lunch grill with really good burgers. Prices are very reasonable too. The lake is perfect here. I hiked into here from the Pacific Crest Trail years ago and has always been one of my best memories. Little windy while we were here, but the weather was mid 80's and made for a great few days. Spectacular view of Mt Hoods north side. The hiking trail around the lake at 3.1 miles was very pleasant with all kinds of different landscape around the lake. Make sure to go here, you will not be sorry. It is a 35 minutes from Hood River so if you around a few days it is worth a trip to enjoy some food and drink and other adventures. Keep in mind no cell service and no wi-fi available so download that music and movies for electronic entertainment.

Food options are scant and poor. Offer better and charge more.

Overall, this is a very good campground. There are a few kinks as expected. PROS - plenty of day use parking - reserved yurt parking - ALL staff were great: check-in lady, guys cleaning the outhouse, the "ranger", boathouse gal, and those tending the store - boat rental was efficient and organized - perimeter walking trail is well kept - 6 showers were clean CONS (or semi cons) - no wifi or cellular (with the exception of a few spots in the store that take painfully long) I know, it's about getting away from the day-to-day, but it's something so many rely on. There's gotta be a way to make it happen. *hot food options. The burgers - and menu selection - isn't very good. They would make a killing if they offered pre-made breakfast burritos. Just heat 'em up, very little labor and high margin. - pit toilets - they are what they are, but wish there was a light and one closer to the store - Some campers were confused if the fire ban applied to the yurts. Maybe affix a "do not use" sign to the stove. NOTE: don't underestimate how cold it can get in the Summer, and also the possibility of rain. And avoid getting there at night.

Hello, little gem not too far from PDX! It's not lost anymore, I found it! Approximately three months ago in a haze of COVID crazies, I booked many weekends of camping trips. Now that those weekends have arrived and I am realizing that mayyyyybe I could have planned a little better. For instance, when I envisioned a visit to Lost Lake, it was of hammocks in the sun, kayaks on the water, etc, etc. Turned out it was more of a snow on the ground, ice on the lake, huddle for warmth type situation. Even inside our cute lil yurt. Good news is, it was gorgeous. I got to disconnect for a few hours. And now I know what camping supplies we definitely need to get to survive the other trips I planned! The views of Mt Hood from Lost Lake are amazing! The lake doesn't allow motorized boats so it's calm and peaceful. The yurts are really cute & a great option if you're not ready for tent camping. The staff is so nice & they provided FREE firewood. Definitely recommend!

The 2020 Pandemic has most thing's still in lock-down. I never understood why Campgrounds were shut down. That's the ultimate Social Distancing! Either way. Lost Lake is now open. This was the very first weekend they were open. Not everything was perfect. The grounds still needed cleaning up from winter. The canvas top to our sheltered area was blown away during the winter shut down but we were not charged for its use. Awesome. It was a windy and rainy weekend. We had our canopies up so we were dry but a little chilly. Some of our group caught some whopper trout. I saw several people with some big ole trout. Other than the weather. It was still a good camping trip. Lots of laughter and fellowship. Our Pastor from the past came camping. It was great to see him and the Mrs. again. We miss them terribly. My family enjoyed our time at Lost Lake so much, we've already booked another trip there this summer. There is a ton to do and see. From Paddle Boards to Canoes to Peddle Boats to Swimming to Fishing for a whopper. Or just cold chillin by the lake. There is plenty to do. Maybe camping isn't your groove. Stay in one of the Hotels rooms. There is also a General Store that sells everything from Beer, Wine, Fishing Gear and Sweatshirts to Espresso and Cheeseburgers. You'll be able to enjoy your food and drinks on one of the many places to sit outside and enjoy the views. The drive isn't that bad. It's just another country road that has curves. Worth it.

Spectacular views and serene setting. Can't rave enough about it. We drove up to get away for a couple hours, but will definitely camp next time. It definitely feels open here -and the fact that you can't have motorized boats make it a gem. It's peaceful and boasts one of the best views of Mount Hood. Rentals are reasonable.

Beautiful lake and private campsites. We enjoyed our space in Loop C, the tall trees around you made it feel more secluded even though there were other campers around us. Vault toilets are clean and well maintained. General store has good burger and fries and the store itself has some fun stickers. Pricey campsite ($80 for 2 nights for a tent site, not RV site) but the amenities are nice (toilets, hikes, views, fishing, rentals, etc). Would definitely return!

Amazing walk around the lake other than the few trees across the trail that I'm sure will be cleared.

Deserves zero stars…read more Stayed here during the summer solace June 2025. Bought a camping pass for camp site #49 and put my reservation receipt on the post at 4pm. As instructed by the campsite rules. Went to a wedding in Hood River to come back to a trailer being parked in the spot I had payed for 4 hours earlier. Keep in mind this is the longest sunlit day of the year and it was still very bright when I arrived. When I asked why my spot was taken and given to someone else, the camp host he said: "So I understand this is uncommon and upsetting to you, but in this county there is a law that states that we can cancel a reservation and sell it to someone else if we believe the campers have left the site". "We recommend leaving camping gear behind in order to keep your spot" So I'm supposed to leave my gear to get stolen? Why did I reserve a spot for 40 dollars only for it to be sold out from under me? The host gave me the run around "I've been here for 11 years, it's legal in this county to sell the spot" I then moved to another spot (which had no river view) and asked the host "you going to kick me out of this one also if I shower for too long"? He wasn't amused by my question and offered to give me some fire wood and snacks if I wanted. I refused his "gifts" and told him he can get out of my face and leave me alone for the rest of the night. The best part of the story is that there were plenty of available spots for the people who stole mine. I believe the campers who took my spot were friends or related to the hosts. It was a prime spot on the river. I searched the laws in the county. There is no such law that states a camp host can do what this camp host did. The host is a liar, thief and a clown. Camper beware!

One of the most notable places to stop is Multnomah Falls. It's a highly popular place and it is certainly understandable as to why but it is best to go early. You may even need to look into getting a reservation in order to get a parking space as well... because yes... it is actually that popular all year round. There are so many cute little towns through the Gorge as well. Hood River is a favorite of ours and I believe it's a favorite for a lot of people but Cascade Locks is nice as well and the Washington side has cute towns as well. On the Oregon side is Interstate 84 but don't explore this Interstate or route as a quick, brisk route to get east to west (or vice versa) as you cannot go typical Interstate speed through the Gorge. The curvature of the road and through this long stretch simply doesn't allow you to do that so it would be worth looking into alternate routes as possible if quickness is the only thing in mind otherwise you kind of just have to endure the reduced speeds. The Columbia River itself one doesn't have to repeat how beautiful it is but it's understandable if you do. River activities never fail to mesmerize. Like the group of people we once saw sailing down the river with boogie boards ( perhaps there's another name for it I'm not in the know with that) and the almost other worldly appearance of numerous fisherman on boats once fishing season was in full swig in the early morning. It's something one can never get tired of, The Columbia Gorge and I enjoy it each and every time I drive through it. It made the trip all the more relaxing for our family to not have to worry about packing our camping gear. We just threw our clothes in a bag and were ready to hit the water. As an aside, my husband is a seasoned drift boater/rafter who has been on the Rogue (and many other rivers) on his own many times. He was hesitant about going on a guided trip, but was pressured into it by me - a mom who wanted some down time from cooking, prepping, etc. His one complaint was that he couldn't drink beer while on the river. Of course, this is a safety issue, so he gets it overall and enjoyed his time otherwise. I think it is a testament to the entire Echo team that he ended up having a great time and would love to travel with them again. If you are looking to take a trip on the Rogue (or Salmon!) River, I highly recommend that you consider Echo.
