Where to start... This is a national treasure, with a ton of history readily at hand. Having visited other national park lodges, we decided to splurge for a night on Mt. Hood in late October 2025. Given that this would be considered shoulder season (lifts aren't yet open), and the overall quality of the rooms, the $345+tax rate was excessive. Snow was falling as we ascended to the 6,000-foot hotel. Lots of cars in the parking lot out front, but I took an uncleared spot to unload the bags. No porters forced me to lug the bags through the snow and up the stairs, but that wasn't a problem for me. We were assigned a room in the newer East Wing, which was a frigid 58-degrees. We set the thermostat for 68 and left to tour the hotel for a few hours. When we returned, the temperature had dropped to 56. A maintenance person eventually determined that the heater was broken, and 90 minutes later we were moved to a slightly larger room in the West Wing. However, moving the bags involved several more stairways. Interestingly, the second room lacked several amenities, but as we still had the key to the original room we went back and brought them along. The root of the problem may lie with staff inexperience, with even the senior manager only in her third year. Other issues: The path to the whirlpool hadn't been shoveled in a while. The hallways and bars are surprisingly crowded with day skiers (even though the lifts weren't yet open), many of whom were camped out for hours around the lobby fireplaces, which kind of puts a damper on the ambiance. Now, we enjoyed a very nice dinner with great service next to a roaring fireplace, albeit at an inflated price as everything must be trucked up the mountain. My recommendation is to come up for a visit, and maybe hike around if the weather is good, but keep going to Hood River for the night.
We visited MT Hood in 2024 on the very cloudy day no visibility but was beautiful so we had to return on a clear day you can enjoy the lodge on clear day outside seating or cold day next to the fire
Historic! Awesome! Such a neat place to see and stay! If you're a fan of The Shining or historic places it is a must see. Such a grand place. The big fireplaces, giant beams, neat architecture! Lots of hiking in the summer, skiing and snowboarding on the winter. Great views, a must visit!
We were in Portland on our way to Spokane and decided to take a detour to see Mount Hood. References said the best place to start was Timberline Lodge so we headed that way. So glad we did. The lodge is beautiful and with my love for The Shining, it was fun to see both inside and out. The location of the lodge allows you to see the mountain up close and personal. I highly recommend taking Magic Mike tram to get you 2/3 up the side of the mountain. The views are stunning. In mid August, we still saw snow but the weather was warm enough for shorts. The trip up the tram was breezy but I never felt cold. Stop into the lodge to visit the park rangers who can give you great tips on hiking trails and even flyers on wildflowers. Very glad we made the detour.
Historic and stunning, this lodge is a must visit anytime of year. On the first day of summer for our visit, it was 36 degrees, windy and raining. But it was comfortable and spacious inside. Normally sitting outside the grand lodge in their massive wooden chairs for conversation or a book or just gazing at the sights is satisfying. Today was not that day, but maybe you'll have better weather luck. It's a magical, old place regardless of the weather.
Okay such a fun lodge!! Timberline Lodge is the perfect winter getaway! We took a couple breaks here while snowboarding all day - there was a short wait for lunch & drinks at the restaurant upstairs during après, but the wait was shorter than estimated each time. The bread bowls are SO good - ask for a side of butter for the most divine salt & pepper butter you will ever consume. The hot cocoa was decorated beautifully - it is 100% Swiss Miss, but the $9 price will get you whipped cream, heath bar, and chocolate / caramel syrup on top which is so worth it post a day of snowboarding. I had such a lovely day here and cannot wait to be back, hopefully to stay as guests and make use of the spa! They close early (around 7 I believe) if you're not a guest, so keep that in mind. Super romantic, cute, winter Christmas spot!
Lots to explore at the historic Timberline Lodge, an architectural masterpiece nestled on the slopes of Mount Hood This iconic lodge, built during the 1930s as part of the Works Progress Administration, is insane craftsmanship and resilience. With its hand-carved beams, stone fireplaces, and stunning views, it's a cozy mountain escape. Oh, and did I mention the resident Saint Bernard, Heidi? This sweet pup has made Timberline her home, greeting guests with her warm, fluffy and slobbery presence. A perfect companion to this lodge's history and charm! You could spend hours here or just have a quick lunch.
Definitely worth a visit to see this historical site if you're in the Mt. Hood area. We watched the short video on how it came to be and wandered through the lobby and various rooms. It has been kept in pristine condition. The front entry was shut down for renovation while we were there, so you had to take either the service elevator or climb the stairs through the kitchen area to get to the main floor.
Talk about historical! This place is a most stop for anyone touring Oregon. The craftsmanship and beauty of this building is breathtaking. Several restaurants and you can stay here and ski in the winter. Definitely do one of the Forest service guided tours.
We did a quick overnight trip to Timberline Lodge, for a family birthday. The Lodge is cool, it's funky, it's very non-corporate, it's old. It's pretty expensive too, but this was a special occasion for us. $400 for the night with no other extras, 2 adults. The employees are very nice, many seem to be local kids/young adults. I think the service was excellent! I thought it was cool to see the young people doing such a great job running the huge place. The pool area looked good, but I did not use it. We were more into the trails, just outside the Lodge... we found a bench just a minute away, where we could just view Mt. Hood. It is amazing up close. Great photo opportunity. We did not eat at the Lodge... we ate on the way up, at Government Camp, the Mt. Hood Brewing Co., which was excellent. The Blue Ox Bar did not appear to be open, we hope to try it next time. The drive to Timberline Lodge is an important part of your journey, it is amazing!
As a Stephen King fan, I was beyond excited to stay at this hotel and it exceeded all my expectations. Of course, it's super old school and the rooms are small, and you can hear your neighbors walking by in the hall - but it spoils nothing, because of the endless class and charm of Timberline Lodge. We also got an early check-in at 2pm which was very nice of them since I knew that all the rooms were fully booked. We tried several of the restaurants, went for a swim in their huge hot tub/pool, curled up with a book by the main fireplace and had lots of fun while doing all this. I would love to come back here during the summertime as well.
I can't speak for staying here, as I just came up for the day. But what I saw, was very impressive. This is a beautiful old hotel that was built back in the 30s, and has been kept up very well. It has such a classic look, it is the hotel that was used for the external shots in the original "the shining" movie.. on the inside, it's also very nice, it has a kind of rustic "lodge" feel. The hotel sits right at the base of Mount Hood, with beautiful views of the mountain from the back patio of the hotel, and there are lots of outdoor recreation, possibilities, for both the summertime and the winter time. The hotel is open year-round. They have a gift shop, There are plenty of food and drink options, but they are definitely expensive. I get it. This place is up in the mountains, there is a lot of overhead in keeping the place up, and of course, they have a captive audience. The nearest food and drink away from the hotel is like 6 to 10 miles down the road. The menu in the main dining room room looked good, but I can't speak to the food as I didn't eat there. I hope it's better than the blue ox bar. I had a slice of pizza there, and I wasn't impressed (see separate review...) This really is a beautiful property. read more
I'm only reviewing the Timberline Lodge Bar & Grill, the reason why we were there, on our way to Prineville. Parking was easy. Short walk uphill, the guy at the parking, when we asked how to get to the restaurant, he directed us to a elevator or to hike up the steps. We picked the elevator. From there, we went up to the main lodge, steps to the top floor, to the bar & restaurant, and were seated right away. We got a good view around the top, sadly, there were no snow to be found, maybe a small handful here & there, farther away. It's still very beautiful inside & outside, so close to nature! We ordered a meatball sandwich and clam chowder, that we shared. And it came to our table nicely divided, with two plates, and two bowls. There were lots of clams and that was good, but the crispy onions on top made it salty! The service was very friendly. The meatballs were very tasty, I really liked that. It was a very interesting environment for eating. The Lodge restroom, was not easy to find, the entrance was like a half revolving door, when you enter, someone is coming out, or you wait and let the other go out. My husband was here when he was about 10 years old, with his grandparents. He only remembers a black & white photo of him. read more

Mixed bag for this review, so I'll jump right in: Pros: - Awesome historic estate. It is surreal to see the photos hung on the walls from the 1930s, then look around and see that no much has changed! Same lamps, couches, etc. - More than 1 place on site to choose to dine at. - The fireplace rooms create an incredibly cozy atmosphere. I loved the old phones in the room too. - I liked the little complimentary dessert delivered by hand to our room in the evening around 7pm. Cons: - Creaky old floors, not ideal for trying to be quiet around a sleeping baby. - Stiff uncomfortable bed. Thin walls, felt uncomfortably close to strangers in the neighboring room. - There is no hair conditioner offered in the bathroom. Only shampoo, a smallish bar of soap, and body lotion. I would've liked to have taken a shower but didn't due to this. No tub in our room, only a stall shower. -Housekeeping didn't collect any garbage, only collected and refreshed used towels, stocked firewood, and made the bed. Overall enjoyed our stay but I will be more diligent to pack the right things next time. I also recommend Casacade Djning Room for dinner although it's a little pricey. Ram's Head is open later but the food is mid at best. read more

Snow, slopes & stunning views aside, I'd like to truly commend the the whole staff here. I started learning to snowboard ~4yrs ago coming outta COVID & needing a way to rebuild physically since I was too fragile for my prior sports. I cannot express enough gratitude for everyone at Timberline from front desk, to shop crew, lift crew, park crew & ski patrol. From Day 1 of falling on my ass literally every 5ft, to riding from top of Mile to the bottom of the Pine this spring with no stops--y'all have offered advice, made sure I wasn't injured when you saw me go splat (a LOT), taught me how to take care of my equipment, & have THE best hype vibe ever no matter what the day or the weather. Thank you to everyone up here that keeps things trucking all year round!!! P.S.- Extra shoutout to the shop crew specifically for extending your friendships to me & my partner--homemade baked goods for life for y'all LMAO read more

Timberline Lodge - OH Timberline Lodge how we do love you! This is a gem - Oregon, for everything you lack - you deliver so well with the Timberline Lodge. From skiing, weddings, events, lodging, food, and great views - Timberline Lodge offers it all! Amazing staff always welcomes you with a smile. They're ever so helpful. They're very responsive from the Lodge Staff to the restaurant wait staff. We've gone twice... literally just for the experience / for the day. Worth the drive from PDX. We've now gone twice. once in the Spring and once in the Winter... worth the drive. It's a perfect day-trip from Portland. If you've not experienced Mount Hood and the Timberline Lodge, stop what you're doing it and make it happen! Lovely lovely gem in Oregon!!! read more
Famous as the exterior shot for the movie, The Shining, the Timberline lodge is absolutely a must when visiting Mt. Hood OR. You could spend a day marveling at the craftsmanship and decor while looking at marvelous landscapes. Come and sit by the fire and enjoy the famous hot chocolate. I did not eat or stay the night here. read more

There is a Mt Hood Shuttle Express bus that has a few stops from Sandy OR to the lodge. $2 each way. Pretty darn handy when they post "Chains required" due to snow conditions and you forget to pack the chains!!! Super helpful lodge staff. Excellent buffet lunch in the lodge. Great gift shops with all sorts of cool nifty things. Great day on the mountain!!! read more
I love the arts and crafts designs. And we had a wonderful lunch with a million dollar view from the bar level. They had a cool na drink whose photo I posted and a "to die for" bread pudding. The pudding is so rich you almost have to share it. Our waiter was really friendly and helpful. Kudos. I absolutely adore this place. I wish I didn't live across the country! read more
This is the place to see Mt Hood up close. Inside the lodge has displays of its history. Restrooms are clean. People are very friendly here, whether it's the people going to ski or the workers inside the lodge. Upstairs is the restaurant and a spot to take some photos. read more
This place is absolutely beautiful. The history is amazing, all year long snowboarding and summertime Mountain Biking. I think this place opened up in the mid 1930s and at the time it was considered to be a very historical event because the United States was in the middle of the depression and this place opened up is absolutely amazing! Oh yeah and some of the exterior shots for the scary and famous movie The Shining. read more

5 STARS for the views, the architecture, the service, and the snow sports. This place is ICONIC and you might be lucky enough to spot the employee of the Month, Heidi (the St.Bernard), out in the lobby or snoozing behind the registration counter. The views from the mezzanine, pool, and patio are incredible. 2 STARS for the food at the lodge. It took a really long time for drinks and food (they are usually slammed so the kitchen gets backed up - just be patient). Not a ton of GF options on the menu but they will make GF pizza if you ask nicely! Favorite place to hang and eat was Blue Ox Bar - 10/10 recommend! read more

The service is extremely slow, it took us about 15 minutes to get lemon wedges for our water. The food truly is meh and it's only a good stop if nothing else is nearby. read more

Are there any electric vehicle charging, EV, tesla?
Hi! There are no EV charging stations at Timberline Lodge. The only EV station I am aware of on the mountain is the Barlow Trail Roadhouse in Welches, right off highway 26. Timberline Lodge is about a 20 - 25 minute drive from that charging station.
Is the resort dog friendly for guests staying with a pet?
Hi! We got married at Timberline Lodge in 2018 and stayed the night there with our pup the evening after the wedding. I'm not sure if they bent the rules for us because it was our special day, but Bruno & Heidi are always cruising around the lodge…
