Loved every minute of this trip. Great rooms. Incredible ambiance. Wonderful staff. Just first class all around. Food portions were generous and made the price worth every penny. The Scotch Flight was perfect. My wife got an Irish hot chocolate drink that was twice the size expected and was fantastic. The meatballs were amazing and the other food dishes were well portioned for everything we saw. This lodge is a craftsman's dream throughout. I can't believe the details the Civilian Conservation Corps put it at every turn. Custom iron work and carving everywhere. Truly a work of art. Be ready for snow late n the season. After letting management know about our sub-par experience staying at Timberline, I was kindly offered a one night weekday stay on the house. I very much appreciated this gesture and do believe that management cares about the guest experience at Timberline. We finally booked our free stay about one year after our initial stay. I was SO excited to hear while checking in that they were now offering a free continental breakfast to all staying at the hotel! Their $30+ breakfast buffet was outrageous, and a free option for how much you're spending on the hotel room felt like the least they could offer. However, I was extremely disappointed to discover that the continental breakfast consists of cereal, apples, toast and pastries. Not a protein in sight, nor a non dairy milk. The flow of traffic into the continental breakfast area of the Cascade dining room was also poorly designed and created a lot of unnecessary issues with flow. Although a free breakfast is a step in the right direction, it was still disappointing considering our off-peak weekday stay came in at $430 (I think they can swing some powdered eggs or even just some yogurt for that much money). Overall, my opinion of the beds/ rooms hasn't changed much; the beds are horribly uncomfortable and the walls are paper thin. Our shower was larger and did drain this time so I'll take that win. I enjoy visiting Timberline but won't be staying the night again. read more

Where to start... This is a national treasure, with a ton of history readily at hand. Having visited other national park lodges, we decided to splurge for a night on Mt. Hood in late October 2025. Given that this would be considered shoulder season (lifts aren't yet open), and the overall quality of the rooms, the $345+tax rate was excessive. Snow was falling as we ascended to the 6,000-foot hotel. Lots of cars in the parking lot out front, but I took an uncleared spot to unload the bags. No porters forced me to lug the bags through the snow and up the stairs, but that wasn't a problem for me. We were assigned a room in the newer East Wing, which was a frigid 58-degrees. We set the thermostat for 68 and left to tour the hotel for a few hours. When we returned, the temperature had dropped to 56. A maintenance person eventually determined that the heater was broken, and 90 minutes later we were moved to a slightly larger room in the West Wing. However, moving the bags involved several more stairways. Interestingly, the second room lacked several amenities, but as we still had the key to the original room we went back and brought them along. The root of the problem may lie with staff inexperience, with even the senior manager only in her third year. Other issues: The path to the whirlpool hadn't been shoveled in a while. The hallways and bars are surprisingly crowded with day skiers (even though the lifts weren't yet open), many of whom were camped out for hours around the lobby fireplaces, which kind of puts a damper on the ambiance. Now, we enjoyed a very nice dinner with great service next to a roaring fireplace, albeit at an inflated price as everything must be trucked up the mountain. My recommendation is to come up for a visit, and maybe hike around if the weather is good, but keep going to Hood River for the night. read more

We were in Portland on our way to Spokane and decided to take a detour to see Mount Hood. References said the best place to start was Timberline Lodge so we headed that way. So glad we did. The lodge is beautiful and with my love for The Shining, it was fun to see both inside and out. The location of the lodge allows you to see the mountain up close and personal. I highly recommend taking Magic Mike tram to get you 2/3 up the side of the mountain. The views are stunning. In mid August, we still saw snow but the weather was warm enough for shorts. The trip up the tram was breezy but I never felt cold. Stop into the lodge to visit the park rangers who can give you great tips on hiking trails and even flyers on wildflowers. Historic and stunning, this lodge is a must visit anytime of year. On the first day of summer for our visit, it was 36 degrees, windy and raining. But it was comfortable and spacious inside. Normally sitting outside the grand lodge in their massive wooden chairs for conversation or a book or just gazing at the sights is satisfying. Today was not that day, but maybe you'll have better weather luck. It's a magical, old place regardless of the weather. read more

Okay such a fun lodge!! Timberline Lodge is the perfect winter getaway! We took a couple breaks here while snowboarding all day - there was a short wait for lunch & drinks at the restaurant upstairs during après, but the wait was shorter than estimated each time. The bread bowls are SO good - ask for a side of butter for the most divine salt & pepper butter you will ever consume. The hot cocoa was decorated beautifully - it is 100% Swiss Miss, but the $9 price will get you whipped cream, heath bar, and chocolate / caramel syrup on top which is so worth it post a day of snowboarding. I had such a lovely day here and cannot wait to be back, hopefully to stay as guests and make use of the spa! They close early (around 7 I believe) if you're not a guest, so keep that in mind. Gorgeous scenery, historic charm, professional staff. (Visited summer 2016). When my family and I visited this lodge for the day, we felt very special and enjoyed the amenities like dining, bar service, and view from the patio. I loved the polished and clean look of such an historic facility. There was snow on Mt. Hood and many opportunities for winter sports. We are staying at the lodge with our kids, we have season passes and have been waiting all season for a few days to stay on the mountain. We upgraded our room to have a private bathroom, unfortunately the sinks hot water was turned off (7:50am) The continental breakfast was 1/10. They don't start till 8am, creating a line and the requirement to be seated by staff. Add 10+ minutes (8:10am) The options are 3 cereals, 2 breads, a whole apple, and mini muffins. The La Quinta has a better selection than this. There are no dairy alternative milks offered for cereal or coffee, unless you ask (adding 10min) We chose to order from the main menu but after 40 minutes the granola bowl with berries was still not ready (8:50am). At this point I'm frustrated-the lifts start at 9am! I left with a brown bag - the granola had almonds, I'm allergic and this ingredient wasn't listed on the menu nor did the dining menu have allergies listed. The berries we cantaloupe!!! Not berries.... This disaster of a breakfast was $14! read more

Definitely worth a visit to see this historical site if you're in the Mt. Hood area. We watched the short video on how it came to be and wandered through the lobby and various rooms. It has been kept in pristine condition. Sights are spectacular whether you go in spring, summer, or fall. We haven't gone in winter. The temperature inside is always HOT, though. They keep their spectacular fire places roaring. The hiking above treeline is pretty good, also. Lots of ground to cover and cool rocks to look at. It is pretty high, so maybe having supplemental oxygen would be a good idea. As a Stephen King fan, I was beyond excited to stay at this hotel and it exceeded all my expectations. Of course, it's super old school and the rooms are small, and you can hear your neighbors walking by in the hall - but it spoils nothing, because of the endless class and charm of Timberline Lodge. We also got an early check-in at 2pm which was very nice of them since I knew that all the rooms were fully booked. We tried several of the restaurants, went for a swim in their huge hot tub/pool, curled up with a book by the main fireplace and had lots of fun while doing all this. I would love to come back here during the summertime as well. read more

We did a quick overnight trip to Timberline Lodge, for a family birthday. The Lodge is cool, it's funky, it's very non-corporate, it's old. It's pretty expensive too, but this was a special occasion for us. $400 for the night with no other extras, 2 adults. The employees are very nice, many seem to be local kids/young adults. I think the service was excellent! I thought it was cool to see the young people doing such a great job running the huge place. The pool area looked good, but I did not use it. We were more into the trails, just outside the Lodge... we found a bench just a minute away, where we could just view Mt. Hood. It is amazing up close. Great photo opportunity. We did not eat at the Lodge... we ate on the way up, at Government Camp, the Mt. Hood Brewing Co., which was excellent. The Blue Ox Bar did not appear to be open, we hope to try it next time. The drive to Timberline Lodge is an important part of your journey, it is amazing! read more

I know this is a long review, but I felt compelled to share why you shouldn't waste your money here.. So I booked two nights at the lodge a few weeks ago, since there was a deal for pay one night, get the second free. It still ended up coming out to about $500 for one night. If you ask me, paying that much was NOT worth it, and I don't consider it a deal by any means. My bf and I arrived around 6pm after driving 8 hours. When I went to the front desk, I was told our room needed to be cleaned. (Keep in mind that they claim rooms are "guaranteed by 4pm." I said "So our room is not ready." The lady responds with "It is but we have to clean it." So we go back and forth arguing about the fact that the room is not ready, which that alone was mind blowing. I hear her call on her radio for someone to check if the room is ready. I very clearly hear back, "there are people still in there, and there is also a hole in the ceiling." So at this point we aren't getting a room. Then, we were given a room in a different wing of the hotel and I was told that not many guests stay over there. I asked why we were getting that room then, and was told that's the only room that is available. After entering the room, it was tiny and SO loud. There was also a birthday gift with someone else's name on it. It turns out that only employees stay in that area and it was directly above the kitchen. After changing rooms again, we were finally given a normal room. FINALLY, we went to the bar one night and had the WORST experience with the bartender. I can't believe I'm even saying this. There was a specific bartender named Jamie who was visibly miserable and rude to everyone, kept waiting without ever being acknowledged. He would say rude comments about the drinks people were ordering, and comments about what kind of people they are. Every drink he had to make he would slam onto the counter and would actually shake the counter. I was appalled by this behavior, and kind of upset I even paid for this. Another bartender also charged me the price of 2 IPAs after ordering a double IPA. She assumed that a double IPA was like having a double shot. I confronted her about it and she was clueless. I wonder how many other people she's ripping off bc she lacks the knowledge yet is somehow a bartender. Overall I'm super disappointed with the whole stay, and the service was trash. Never staying here again. read more

First time staying at the lodge mid January 2026. Excellent experience. Shout out to Rowand in registration. Very professional, helpful, and very accommodating when my plans had to change. Really appreciate it! Staying at the lodge makes skiing so convenient. Everything you need is right there. Parking, food, bars, rentals, store and walk a few steps from the front door to the lifts. Because you're staying at the top of most of the runs, you can just ski down from the lodge. Gorgeous views for many miles to the south, and the top of the towering mountain to the north. Timing was very good with good snow conditions, moderate temps, sun, friendly lift personnel and no lines whatsoever. If you don't want to ski all day, you can watch your friends ski by as you hang out at the outdoor pool and big jacuzzi. After you work up an appetite, hit the Cascade dining room for fine dining and wine. I think the place is 89 years old, and the way it's built, it will last another 89. Great staff, service and all-around good experience. I'll definitely be back. read more

I started learning to snowboard ~4yrs ago coming outta COVID & needing a way to rebuild physically since I was too fragile for my prior sports. I cannot express enough gratitude for everyone at Timberline from front desk, to shop crew, lift crew, park crew & ski patrol. From Day 1 of falling on my ass literally every 5ft, to riding from top of Mile to the bottom of the Pine this spring with no stops--y'all have offered advice, made sure I wasn't injured when you saw me go splat (a LOT), taught me how to take care of my equipment, & have THE best hype vibe ever no matter what the day or the weather. Thank you to everyone up here that keeps things trucking all year round!!! Mixed bag for this review, so I'll jump right in: Pros: - Awesome historic estate. It is surreal to see the photos hung on the walls from the 1930s, then look around and see that no much has changed! Same lamps, couches, etc. - More than 1 place on site to choose to dine at. - The fireplace rooms create an incredibly cozy atmosphere. I loved the old phones in the room too. - I liked the little complimentary dessert delivered by hand to our room in the evening around 7pm. Cons: - Creaky old floors, not ideal for trying to be quiet around a sleeping baby. - Stiff uncomfortable bed. Thin walls, felt uncomfortably close to strangers in the neighboring room. - There is no hair conditioner offered in the bathroom. Only shampoo, a smallish bar of soap, and body lotion. I would've liked to have taken a shower but didn't due to this. No tub in our room, only a stall shower. -Housekeeping didn't collect any garbage, only collected and refreshed used towels, stocked firewood, and made the bed. Overall enjoyed our stay but I will be more diligent to pack the right things next time. I also recommend Casacade Djning Room for dinner although it's a little pricey. Ram's Head is open later but the food is mid at best. read more

This place is ICONIC and you might be lucky enough to spot the employee of the Month, Heidi (the St.Bernard), out in the lobby or snoozing behind the registration counter. The views from the mezzanine, pool, and patio are incredible. 2 STARS for the food at the lodge. It took a really long time for drinks and food (they are usually slammed so the kitchen gets backed up - just be patient). 5 star for the lodge itself- the history, craftsmanship and art work throughout the lodge is amazing. The rooms are authentic, very small, rustic, but unfortunately you can hear people talking in the surrounding rooms and you hear people walking down the halls and above you. The pizza in the downstairs Blue ox bar is 5 star excellent. Unfortunately Rams Head bar and Cascade have limited hours during the year which effect where you can sit and get service. Cascade restaurant is good but not great. Excellent service but the chicken dish is a bit bland and the king mushroom dish lacked flavor. The melon gazpacho is 5 star. Overall very impressive lodge. You go there to be wowed by the natural beauty and craftsmanship of a bygone era. read more

Honestly, I don't know any place as iconic as Timberline in Oregon. The setting is amazing - just above the timberline with the pacific crest trail passing through, the palmer ski lift operating during the summer, and plenty of other hiking, biking, backpacking options. From here, you see Jefferson, the Sisters, etc. Then you get to the building - a WPA project from the depression era. One of a kind architecture, and wood working carvings/design. You can spend all day up here, sun or snow. read more

I am a huge fan of the Shining, so it was a total bucket list item for me to be able to stay at the lodge where exterior shots of the Overlook hotel were filmed! All I have to say is, wow. It was a pretty awesome experience getting to stay here. I'm not even a skier, which obviously is what most people come here for, but seeing the amazing slopes right outside made me want to give skiing another shot. I was really nervous at first figuring out how I was going to get up here in early May, where there's still a ton of snow. I was very impressed with how well-kept the roads are! It made for a surprisingly easy drive. Everyone here was very friendly and they even let us check in early. The inside is very cozy and rustic. We ended up booking one of the bunk bed rooms, which came with 6 beds (even though there were two of us) as it was the cheapest option. There's a lot you can do inside the lodge as well. Pool, sauna, bar, restaurant, TV/game room. There's even a mini-museum in the front entrance, as there is so much history that this lodge holds. I'm so glad we took the detour to come stay here! read more

Wow! For lunch we ordered carrot soup, clam chowder, snowcap dream hot chocolate, blue lava spritz, chopped salad, and several po' boys. I mean everything was delicious and the plates were returned clean...no leftovers. Heather was our waiter and she was very helpful in placing all these orders. Personally, I would recommend the clam chowder and the artisan bread. Try to be seat before noon in order to beat the lunch mob. read more
