This is a wonderful place, and completely unknown by most of the thousands of drivers who pass this…read morelocation daily. The clinic specializes in hyperbaric oxygen therapy, or HBOT. The principle behind HBOT might sound familiar to you. Yes, a hyperbaric chamber is used by divers to recover from the bends, but it is used for so much more! HBOT is being used to treat autism, wound care, stroke, cerebral palsy, brain injury, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, lyme disease, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury and post-surgical healing, sports injuries and spinal injuries, just to name a few therapies. Why go through this? Injured tissue begins to heal when oxygen reaches it. Oxygen reaches tissue through blood cells, blood plasma, cerebral-spinal fluid and other body fluids. In order to promote healing, more oxygen promotes more tissue growth and the ability to carry away disease. At sea level, the pressure of air is measured at 1 atmosphere, or 1 atm. The weight of a 1" column of air, which is about 50 miles high, is 14.7 pounds per square inch. To reach the level of 2 atm, the weight of that same 1" column of air must be doubled. Since it isn't possible to extend earth's atmosphere to 100 miles, the simplest way to reach 2 atm (29.4 PSI) is through mechanical means. The equipment here is simple enough - an air-tight pressure vessel (a steel tank) an air compressor to build pressure and a supply of oxygen. The "diver" climbs into a large pressure tank, at WIHC, it is large enough for two people to sit in comfortably. The chamber is filled with compressed air until the diver reaches the prescribed depth. The diver wears a plastic helmet and breathes 100% oxygen for one hour. After breathing one hour of oxygen, the compressed air is released from the tank At 1 atm, the body inhales about 6 pounds of oxygen per day. At higher pressure, the body is forced to inhale more deeply. By introducing a pure oxygen atmosphere, for one hour, at a pressure of 2 atm, the body will inhale 2.4 pounds of oxygen! Red blood cells pick up this extra oxygen immediately and carry it to the body. HBOT patients tend to develop new arteries and capalaries. The net result is an increase in blood oxygen levels, as high as 2000% in some cases. Hyberbaric Oxygen Therapy is being used in numerous therapies. Experts are making tremendous headway with autism by using HBOT, it is used to treat brain injuries and in anticipation of surgeries where potential infections must be avoided. Athletes use HBOT to increase blood oxygen for stamina and to speed the healing of injuries. The Wisconsin Integrative Hyperbaric Center is one of the premier providers of HBOT in the area. For more information about HBOT, see the website of the International Hyperbarics Association http://www.hbot4u.com/ and the official website of the Wisconsin Integrative Hyperbaric Center. http://www.wisconsinhyperbarics.com/

I've been working with Dr. Puckette for about a year and a half. During this time I've learned so…read moremuch about my body and the triggers that cause inflammation within my body. I have an autoimmune disorder with symptoms of joint inflammation and pain. My goal when first meeting Dr. Puckette was to find a way to cope and heal from this autoimmune condition without having to go on prescription medication. The side of the Rx meds are scary. I've always managed my pain with OTC Ibuprofen or Aleve. But prior to meeting him, these OTC meds weren't enough to keep the pain managed. I knew that I wanted to find the root cause of why I'm in pain, and not just have a band aid fix.  I've since learned various foods were triggers to my joints becoming painful and inflammed. Within the first 3 to 4 months of working with Dr. Puckette I was able to develop my own personal diet which helps keep the inflammation down in my body. I learned what it feels like if I eat something I'm not suppose to eat (pain and inflammation return). My energy has increased while fatigue has decreased. I'm sleeping through the night almost every night (insomnia one night per month currently). I used to have insomnia about 5 of 7 nights a week. I've also learned what emotional and environmental exposures trigger inflammation. Dr. Puckette understands that we're human, we're emotional, food also is/can be emotional. As humans we make mistakes, but he stresses that these are learning opportunities to understand your own body's limits.  I've been taking the supplements he recommends and have reduced my Ibuprofen/Aleve intake to about 4 doses per week as opposed to 21 doses per week. I've noticed my digestion has increased tremendously and my body is becoming more efficient in processing nutrients. My brain is healing and I'm becoming more confident and sharper at thinking/memory/recall.  It has been a long journey, healing takes time.  It has been well worth it to avoid needing to be put on any Rx medication for pain or autoimmune conditions. My body is actually healing, naturally. This is such a small overview of the things I've learned. I highly recommend Dr. Puckette if you're looking for a way to heal naturally. Dr. Puckette is intelligent and has a passion for what he does. He celebrates your success with you and helps you through the difficult times. He has always been honest and upfront about his abilities in working with me and I greatly appreciate that.

The location is an adults only YMCA and caters to the active seniors community. I've only visited one occasion thus far to check it out and I (mid 40's) was on the youthful side. The facility is in the excellently refurbished West Bend Company factory. There's a nearby coffee shop for the post workout and/or Tochi Ramen. There are plenty of workout machines and free weights in a comfortable atmosphere. The locker rooms are spacious & maintained nicely. Unlike the main Y branch you do need to provide your own lock, but with the age of the clientele I don't envision theft from lockers is much of a thing here. The shower stalls provide about twice the space in comparison to the main Y branch. The facility offers a sauna in the locker room. There is no pool or whirlpool. I hope a whirlpool is considered in any future expansion as I think it would fit in well with the adults only theme. The facility offers programming similar to the main Y branch, albeit in a smaller scale. A great downtown location and West Bend is lucky to be home to two YMCA facilities.
