J. Lindeberg and Tiger of Sweden were great exceptions from this experience. The level of service and dedication I received at J. Lindeberg was exceptional. The very nice, young, fashion-savvy sales clerk dedicated up to an hour to me in which I bought several pants, sweaters, jackets. I never felt rushed at any point of time. He gave good advice where needed and was at service when I was looking for him. I would have appreciated a bit more direct recommendations instead of starting with "What do you think?" but that's a question of personal preference. I really like J. Lindeberg as a high-quality, everyday brand where everything looks nice well put together without trying hard to be fashionable. This store also had a variety of very good promotions, most items were discounted 30% or more. I highly recommend visiting this shop when you're at ILLUM when you're looking for menswear. J. Lindeberg and Tiger of Sweden were my favorite stores here during my visit.

I came in to get a shirt exchanged for one size smaller. The receipt was with the professional at IC Company who purchased said shirt for me (in exchange for work I did for the brand). The woman who helped with the original transaction stared at me as if she didn't recognize that I'd spent 2 hours in her shop just 4 days prior. I was accused by 3 (yes THREE) sales associates who suggested that I may not have purchased the shirt there. I kindly asked if they could look up in the register the original transaction, to see the purchase made. "No, we cannot do that." "I'm not allowed to do that." I reminded them that I was not asking for money back, for a return or an exchange -- and that no money was exchanging hands -- I just needed a size 34, not the 36 I was given by mistake. Apparently, they're not allowed to use their brains at By Malene Birger because my request was haughtily denied. Now in Denmark, I don't expect good service. If you're lucky you may get something passable. But at by Malene Birger, the associates seem to think that they are hired to be fashionable. And that their 'chicness' is more credible if served with a dose of snobbery. They, sadly, haven't a clue that their primary job is to be a SERVICE associate for customers who enter and give them a lot of money. My advice: got to DAY or NORR (very close by) for kinder treatment and chic clothes, go to Anne Sax for delightful service and beautiful lingerie, but avoid by Malene Birger, lest you get the stink-eye from some blonde number with a disheartening attitude.

Being a 'jog bra' gal at heart, I did have a bit of a tough time with the selection. However, with the help and determination of the shop keeper, I did not leave this shop empty-handed. There's even a gourmet market in the basement below it with a bakery, pizza, fresh fruits & vegetables, and many specialty chocolates and candies. This part of the store connects to the underground Kongens Nytorv metro station. That's quite convenient for commuters on their way home from work. It's also great for tourists like us who want to buy last minute things like Lakrids of Bülow. There's a shop for that here as well. It's also where you'll find a coffee shop. We would eventually find out that there are many different cafés located on various floors of this department store. We found an express version of Hallernes Smørrebrød. I've written a separate review for this location, but for some reason it just doesn't show up in my Yelp activity. I just wish I had known about the other restaurant location on the top floor that boasts beautiful views of the square. We visited twice and somehow missed it. If anything, it would be nice to see a full directory of each floor listed on their website or near the entrance of the ground floor. The building is on the site of what was once the Hotel du Nord. Hans Christian Andersen was a resident of the hotel from 1838 to 1847. It's not the same building, but they supposedly recreated his room. It can be accessed on the 3rd floor. It's a second part of the store that I regret not seeing. Hence, the 4 star review for not having a clear map to everything without having to go floor by floor. It was a great find when walking through Kongens Nytorv Square. It's difficult to miss the beautiful French architecture of this building. It draws you in as you discover what's inside of it.
